We are thrilled to share Chuck Marohns lecture from his visit to Edmonton! Hosting Chuck and Strong Towns has helped our city be better positioned for future development as we grow to 2 million plus residents.
This event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the University of Alberta Sustainability Council, the School of Urban and Regional Planning, the Edmonton Metro Region Board (EMRB), the City of Edmonton, and Councillors Ashley Salvador and Michael Janz. Our journey to bring this event to life included meticulous planning, coordination, and the generous support of our sponsors and partners. A special shoutout to everyone who contributed to making this event a resounding success!
In this video, you'll get an inside look at Strong Towns' mission to revolutionize North America's approach to development since the post-war era, moving away from the Suburban Experiment towards a model that prioritizes financial resilience and robust urban growth. Strong Towns advocates for creating cities that are safe, livable, and welcoming, empowering local governments to serve as a beacon of collaboration for community members working together to enhance their living spaces.
With a reach spanning millions each year and a dedicated membership base from all 50 states and several countries, Strong Towns is leading the charge towards incremental, bottom-up growth. Our coverage today includes exclusive interviews, expert insights, and unforgettable moments from the event that underscore the impact of the Strong Towns movement.
For more in-depth information about Strong Towns and how you can join this growing movement towards sustainable urban development, visit strongtowns.org. Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe to our channel for more updates on how communities are transforming their futures, one step at a time.

I love his emphasis on complexity. A lot of people do not understand how complexity works and keep returning to top-down solutions by default, but they just don't work as well.

As a Calgarian, I am obliged to say that Edmonton sucks, and I really believe it because of how depressing the city is each time I visit (maybe I should spend more time in Whyte Ave instead of downtown...), but Michael Janz is a bright spot.

I'd be surprised if I've been closer than 5000 miles of Chuck... but I've heard him! Everyone has the chance with RU-vid but you're 100% right... butlet's ask the right question: How do we get more people to listen to him?

Read Waste Makers. Marketing is producing far more then can be consumed.

The government is producing far more infrastructure than can be used and maintained. Having a market will correct that dangerous excess
