Sad to see the Banshee go. I have always wanted a Ti bike, maybe some day but they are $$$. Always lusted for a Moots Softtail 29er. It’s funny Surly has moved away from the jump bar and made several of their bikes more modern trail geo but seems like everyone else is going back towards it.

My new Ti HD didn't have the ISCG-05 mounts either. So in looking to get the MRP adapter like the one you have I've come across a snag. The MRP adapter is designed to replace the 2.5mm spacer when you have a SRAM DUB BSA bottom bracket like what my bike has. But my bike came with SRAM's new version of that BB and they go rid of the 2.5mm spacer between the cup and the frame for the 73mm version. So now if I sandwich the adapter between the cup and the frame that will throw off the chain line by 2.5mm. But the new BB does have a 4.5mm DUB specific spacer on the outside between the cup and the crank arm. So my plan is to replace that 4.5mm spacer with a 2.0mm spacer to compensate for the 2.5mm thick adapter in order to maintain the chain line but unfortunately I can't just use a regular spacer, I have to use a DUB specific spacer. So in order get that single 2.0mm DUB spacer I have to buy the entire set of 8 spacers because SRAM won't sell just a single spacer. I know this because I've been emailing them back and forth about it. BTW, it was MRP who figured all this out for me when I reached out to them. MRP was a great help. SRAM... not so much.

It's fun having enough bikes to swap parts. It's a shame that the Middlechild doesn't get to remain fully assembled and ready-to-ride all the time. At least you can make content out of the time spent swapping-out builds.

Loving these vids and the direction they are going. Excellent info!!! Have one of those ISCG adapter brackets on my bike now. Saw what you did in the first Ti Middlechild new bike build, made complete sense to have it! I'd even go a bit more with it for zip tie trimming, and say don't use your zip tie flush cutters on anything else. Those are so easy to get chewed up and then you are out of luck trimming zip ties cleanly every again.

What’s your real time build duration? And what tools can you not be without.
@hardtailparty
@hardtailparty 4 года назад
Spends on the bike. If I wasn't filming and swapping batteries, dumping memory cards, moving the camera around, deciding what to say/show, it'd be about 40 min between these two bikes. It really helps that they have the same standards and all cable routing is external. With internal brake routing it adds an hour or sometimes a lot more. I'm building at least one frame a week at the moment.

@3:10...trick I learned (the hard way) is to have the frame upside down when you set bearing preload on the headset. That way, the mass of the fork (and in your case the wheel too) is working with you. Otherwise, you’re trying to set the bearing preload against the gravity of the wheel & fork which leads to a lot more variation.

How is your overall fitment on the Medium? being you are 5'6 and you ran the pervious ones as small? No issues with effective top-tube being too long?
@hardtailparty
@hardtailparty 3 года назад
The biggest issue is seat tube length. I had to cut it off. I love the long reach of the med. I slide my saddle all the way forward to get the ett length i need. I also have a small one that i use for bikepacking.
