In the long, long history of humanity, every so often you get a culture defining, generation defining spark of creativity - something that pushes the envelope of what we thought was artistically possible. Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa. Mozart's symphonies. And who could forget about the bored ape NFTs? Well, ladies and gentlemen, here I present to you the next big thing, the Melon Carver 3000.

And if you can't, reduce your speed on the axis because your motor seem a little on the potato range ("Surprise") to not be able to keep up. If I remember motor, reducing the motor speed may help you with tork (but then you will need to decrease your axis speed... again). Also keep in mind drill bits are for drilling ("up/down") not to go side way.
@mjlagrone
@mjlagrone 2 года назад
If you cannot find router bits on the cheap, look for sheetrock bits. They make them for Dremels and the like. Other things you could do is have the depth be computer controlled and repeat the pattern over and over again, each time cutting a wee bit deeper. Fun fun!
@B4x4
@B4x4 2 года назад
You need to up the speed on the motor too. And the router bit. Drill bits has only cutting faces in the front. Router bits has cutting faces on all edges...

You can make your robot much better by: putting a big croshaped spike in the watermoleon stand that way it it cant move and use a lidar to dynamically addjust the drillbit distance from the watermelons surface. (you will also need a little clamp at the top to stop the melon from moving upwards)
@carrotylemons1190

Spring loaded bar with pressure sensor that moves ahead of the drill would work as well. Arguably quite a crude method but it should be cheap and fairly easy to make.

I think it might work better if you used a dremel or router to cut it. Also if it were to move slower with a higher bit speed and only make small cuts at a time with many passes moving deeper with each pass. And maybe tack the watermelon in place somehow.

I had thought this would be a good microwave surgery platform. But that was years ago. And we’d need at least two more gimbals to make it really work. And the thing would hafta be somewhat ginormous. And then there’s the removal of the gang plank. Something I doubt a Gonkee couldn’t handle.

I wonder if you were using a proper routing/contour bit or if you were literally just using a basic drill bit. That makes sense to me for why it was having so much trouble cutting sideways through that.

Adding a router could make it less punchy, but it'd weigh a Ton so would need to up all the mechanics, maybe not worth it. You could add a depth sense mechanism and have the bot do several shallow runs while it auto adjusts the depth of the drill so the load is consistent. cool idea/video!
