Outstanding Fab Work ! A really unique design to tuck the turbo. Can't wait to hear this with the 3to1 collectors.. Supra Love ! Also.. Outstanding video work. The cinematic segments are on point. Keep it up.

Thank you for your kind words and support. I'm very excited to hear what it sounds like as well considering the M-series engines have a much different sound than their JZ counterparts. Also thank you for making note of the cinematic sequences. I love video work and am trying my best to tell visual stories as opposed to talking incessantly as I did in the GoPro days.

What's the silicon-bronze trick? Are you welding the runners with er347 under the silicon bronze? Or just tig brazing the runners to the flange?
@AlexLindner

347 root pass, silicon bronze cap pass. It helps the welds remain flexible for thermal expansion/contraction and mitigates the chance of them failing. Ideally this would be done by welding the inside of the tube-to-flange welds with 347 filler and the exterior with silicon bronze, but that isn't how we designed the flange. I've had good luck with the process I showcased here, however.

Thank you for your kind words and continued support. I certainly set myself up with a challenge on this project. It shows that a bit of pre planning and visualization can go a long way. It was an instance of 10lbs in a 5lb bucket, but thankfully it all worked out in the end. Much love from the US as well. I hope all is well on your side of the pond.

It's certainly one of the most unique headers I've built to date. I wanted to retain the same turbo position that it's always had, but build a tube header rather than reinstall the cast manifold that was on it before. While that may seem nonsensical as I could have located the turbo anywhere I wanted instead, it's important to me to preserve as much of the way the car was as possible while building as many new parts for it and updating as much as possible. My goal is to modernize and upgrade the work that my dad and I originally did while still retaining as much of the car's sentimental value as possible. The turbo selection and positioning is a key piece of that puzzle for me.

@@AlexLindnerwell that’s what counts in the end. Everyone has their own reason for doing something. It’s not a fact of right and wrong. I like the way you go at it. And as you said. It makes for one unique piece. Without the sentimental value it would just be another car. Can’t wait for the next piece to go on. Have a great day

Just impressed across the board. My mk2 doesn't deserve this kind of love.

That's quality work 😎🤙 Enjoyed the video. How durable is the silicone bronze on head flange welds?
@AlexLindner

Thank you for your kind words. It holds up just fine, I believe its melting point is around 1800°F.

Why did you use the stock 7mgte manifold as a template? Surely that just made your life harder than it needed to be
@AlexLindner
@AlexLindner 7 месяцев назад
It made things trickier, and I certainly could have placed the turbo in a more advantageous location. However, I wanted to mimic the original turbo system that my dad and I installed as closely as possible. This car is saturated with sentimentality and memories of building it with my dad when I was a kid. I want to preserve as much of how it was as possible while upgrading/building as many parts for it as I can. To sum it up with a shitty analogy: It isn't a matter of just painting a picture - I want to paint the same picture using the same canvas and paints, just a bit higher quality.

Is that a CT-26 turbo from a 7M-GTE? Oh, yep! Commented too quickly I guess.

It was the first turbo I ever had. I still remember getting it and being mystified by it. It's funny what we put on pedestals and overcomplicate in our minds when we're young.
