Great video.im doing the aw4 conversion into my 01 TJ 4.0 ...was had planned to just get the old 3 speed and be done with it.the aw4 seems a better option.
Thank you! I'm a huge fan of the AW4, mostly because of it's light, cheap, simple and with the correct controlling, it works extremely well for what it is!
Just wondering if you know for sure about swapping in a 1JZ or 2JZ into jeeps using the AW4 or AX15 transmissions without trans adaptors? Also heard you can do an RB swap without adaptors. As far as the temp sensor you swiped at about 3/4 part of the vid, only the older aw4 trans have the threaded hole and cap off bolt, later they stopped tapping the hole entirely but the block mold still has the same spot if you want to drill one in. I don't think jeep ever used the temp switch spot though.
that's bad ass that everything fit so well. I have been putting a bew into an 98 jeep xj with an aw4. I was gonna use a Compushift to control the aw4 but they have been out of stock for months now and it don't look like they will have any for a long time. so now im gonna try to use the stock tcu or make my own using an Arduino. for the TV cable im going to run it through the fire wall and connect it to a bracket on the throttle peddle. I like what your doing a lot better I would do the same if I could get my hands on a Compushift.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I'm currently wiring up everything which turned into a huge project of labelling and discovering that all the various wiring harness are in my TJ. I'm going to be posting an update on the project next week but basically, I'm tackling just the wiring at the moment.
I have never run the Toyota torque converter, it has a different bolt pattern to the flex plate, 6 bolts vs 4 bolts on the AW4 and I believe the spline count on the torque converter can be different as well depending on engine it was initially designed for.
