A demonstration of my homemade electric clavichord, as well as an overview of the process of building it. Check out my band Garden Variety at @gardenvarietyband

I think I came out around $300 for this one, for the second one I am building currently I expect around $500 (it has more strings, design based closely on the Clavinet.)
Very snazzy! I designed an electric clavichord for my Product Design A level, but I only got as far as building the body. Hopefully when I get some time I can construct the keyboard, install the electronics, string it up etc.
Awesome job! Looking forward for more videos :) If the pickups are installed above the strings so that you could mount them more towards the middle of the string, I wonder how that would sound like
I am not sure the way I designed it if there is room to install above the string, but I agree with you on the sound. What I would really love to do is have 2 pickups over each set of strings, so that I could swap between bridge and center (neck?) pickups for tone variation as you would on a guitar. We will see if I can pull it off though.
I found them to be too thick to really work with, but it would be interesting to build a Clavichord bass a la the Rhodes bass. Could do with only one or two strings. May be my next project after I finish the unfretted clavichord that I am currently building.
@@willstudioworkshop ok thanks🙏🏻 I built a 12 strings clavichord (26 keys, one string each note and octave) and I'm planning to upgrade it using your same method, but more than 26 keys. I think your method is better and versatile🙏🏻
@@emmet_guitarist if yours has similar range as mine, you can probably get away with putting more notes on a single string on the lowest 2 strings, I don’t ever play major or minor thirds on either of the lowest two strings because of the low interval limit.
Why not just use a factory-made keyboard? You can actually get any sound from a DAW. I have one of the 90's RadioShack keyboards, if anyone is interested.
