You probably don't remember me, but I took a January class over a year ago. As usual, you hit this one out of the park with this design, I am still trying to get the time to come back to your shop to finish up the practice days that you offered along with the two courses I took. However I am a certified Essential Working Millwright and I have been traveling around the country working Forced Outages which helps keep Electrical Power Plants operating and producing electricity that keeps you out of the darkness at night and cool during the day.(:o) I hope you can stay free from the virus and that I can some day soon get back to Charlton, Best Wishes and Clean Health, Walter Luikey

Wray, after the day I had today, I NEEDED to come home to this video! Machine came out really nice. I'm going to try to get to my legs and cleanup during the coming week, so as soon as the info for the adjuster and such are ready, I'm going to be on them like white on rice! Pricing on the tubing is about dead on, I paid $300 for 36 ft of it (I have uses for the leftover). The comment about "inexpensive" should not be taken as "cheap". Between the tubing at around $300, and making an assumption that the adjuster and a couple of wheels will come in around $500 to $800, I'd say I'll be all in for under $1,500 bucks. It's inexpensive relative to the stuff the big boys are playing with, but it ain't cheap, as in quality. This puppy is rock solid! Thanks for all you're doing Wray, I like to support those that support others.

Hi, great videos try to watch them all , I made an English wheel when I retired in 2003 as I could no longer use the one at work which was British Aerospace all great cast iron jobs, I built mine out of 6” square box section 1/4” thick walls it works great, if I was to make another one I would probably have the feed at the top like yours as mine is a kick at the bottom, love you tuitions carry on the great work 👍👍👍😀

I can fix it but I didn't want to blow up the new soft paint. As I was doing it I felt I was making a mistake but couldn't stop. It was in a hurry. Ah, life throws that curve ball at you often and you always whiff.

I really like the pin striping on the legs! That would look really nice on the Framework too...maybe in a light grey like you painted the legs. Really gives it a 1930's-1940's look!! I have no means to make the adjuster/ wheel brackets, so I'll be watching for your "Kit" price that includes those parts! Thanks for the update!!

You can use fishing line between the frame and name plate to cut the 2 sided tape

Good idea, but I think I'll keep it where it is. Some people have commented that they like that placement better than centered on the triangle above.

Frame looks quite solid but I notice when you're wheeling that you wind on quite a lot of pressure ? That appears to show up a noticeable amount of flex of the steel frame ? I also notice your other frames are a lot wider and I'm sure stiffer ? The frame in the video is probably an excellent home project and makes a good amateur machine but is more solid better ?

Hello, thank you for your informative videos. on this video you mentioned potentially doing plans for the hardware kit. Is it going to, or has it happened? I found the plans for frame but not the mechanisms on your website. I would really like to build this (fun and useful project) however I am in Australia and unfortunately wouldn't make sense for me to buy the hardware kit (shipping fees alone kill the idea). Any how again thank you for all the useful instruction you provide

Hello Wray, that’s not only a machine , it’s a work of art. Congratulations on a beautiful and functional design. I would appreciate some advice. I want to make a skin for an XK120 OTS trunk . Would you be able to give me a few tips to wheeling this? I’m a beginner on the English wheel and wondering

Hi Garry, That boot lid panel is a real tough one. It looks simple but there is about six inches of crown in the center. Make a flexible shape pattern and you will see. Make it out of .050" you will have to shrink some where it makes the lower turn about ten inches from the bottom lip. That shrinking about six inches in reduces greatly the amount of stretching you have to do. Less stretching means less thinning in the center of the panel. Make some side to side gauges ( east west maybe 5 in total and 3 north south). As you wheel the panel it will try to roll up like a barrel, you stop that action by lifting up as you pull the panel towards you. Once you get enough shape in the panel it will civilize and settle down . Be careful not to over-develop. Check with the flexible shape pattern and gauges often and you will be OK. Good luck.

An elegant-looking tool! Just wondering if the anvil rack might be more convenient if it was within arm's length of the jaws? That would make it easy to change them without having to walk to the back. (The less wasted motion in a job, the better.)

To my eye, the two C channel brackets that provide the mounting to the 4x4 frame of the upper wheel/adjuster and the lower anvil assembly can flex and alter the contact patch between the upper and lower wheels especially if the upper wheel is initially at an angle as you demonstrated. Certainly in comparison to the 4x4 tubing structure this is where the machine would likely flex. Dial gauges on the upper and lower assembly with the adjuster wheel providing the load would prove me incorrect.

This was my first thought as well but IF it's an issue it wouldn't take much to fix it Turn the C bracket 90 deg when fabricating
