Hey nate not a question but an idea, what if you took a micromesh fabric that stretches slightly and printed directly onto it? Certain parts would benefit from added flexibility and you'd have superior coverage for limbs like the knees and elbows while freeing up movement in the hips/back/torso and neck
Right?! Very similar to the Starboost suit. Check out Frankly Built and what he's done with that suit, looks awesome. Honestly there are so many different paint themes I'd like to try on an iron man suit, they're all so cool looking.
@@NFTI I've been following frank for a while and just love that his inspiration for making the mk 39 was seeing his 85 in white primer. I'm working on my own starboost as well, haven't finished printing yet
Okay. So, you answered my question about why you chose 3DP over a very light metal suit. Two things to think about: 1) Installing a fan system for ventilation, at the bare minimum. 2) Segmenting the abdomen area (below the pecs to the waist line) for increased mobility. Love how the suit is looking and and I can't wait to see part 3.
@@andromydous I’ve never met someone who majored in both human biology AND mathematics, that’s crazy! I was only joking man, lighten up a bit haha, it’ll do you some good!
Amazong work! If I may dare to put forward an idea, maybe the slightly plasticy noise the parts make when rubbing/hitting each other could be fixed in a subsequent video? For example, by gluing a thin layer of rubber or foam on the inside to absorb vibration?
I feel bad that most of the suggestions require either reprinting or cutting, both of which require going through the sanding process again (so lots of pain and suffering). Only thing I would say is get a black morph suit (you don't need the hood part, but could be useful) and get a personal A/C collar. This is incredible and even if it doesn't have the mobility you want, it looks amazing and your hard work is paying off!!!
Nate, have you thought of 3D printing on fabric to have parts on your joints where you can allow for more mobility? Like making the thigh shorter to allow more bend and then 3D printing onto the underarmor (cloth) the armor bits that are plates in-between? So you have sort of a combination of hard armor and flexy 3D printed chain mail jumpsuit underneath that fills in the gaps between the armor.
Put some kind of cooling/heating system. Maybe something like a peltier module in each limb with a power circuit that can switch power direction to get mild cooling or heating?
Since you already have power and an Arduino involved, would it be possible to add fans for ventilation? Or would that require a full re-print of the suit to make spaces for fans at all? Just so it's not as hot inside.
As some one who has done some of that... Huge props that take so much work and it is not just sanding. That is detail sanding also. Most have no idea but it is work and a half to do.
I need the help of the legend, Nate! Someone used a laser to cut a pizza and they never showed how the slices came out. It smoked some but it looked like it worked but they never lifted up any slices. Otherwise that suit is insane looking. My god the work put in is amazing. I recently seen some 3D chainmail and it looked amazing, I wonder in moving parts if it would help to add to your project. Hmmm... Gonna keep watching.
If you get the hand lights and sound working, I think a co2 cart powered air blast would be awesome, so u could air blast people and give them the anticipation of an actual iron man hand blast.
My question is about durability. After a few years of wearing it to parties, weddings, funerals and such, will the material become brittle and easy to break or will the suit last into your old age?
So... can you sit in a chair? A dark undergarb works best because it eats light, hiding everything underneath Also be careful with how warm the LEDs get, it could damage the suit
So far, this suit looks absolutely fantastic. What I would suggest though: at the elbows and knees, your limbs really do stick out and look a bit thin. Maybe add some details to trick the eye. In the first Iron Man suits, ribbed gaskets were used at these spots. Another thing considering maybe fans inside the suit so you do not pass out wearing it for a few hours. They can be connected to a power bank. I am pretty sure you will find some crevices where you can put tiny PC fans. Particularly in the helmet, but maybe also in the torso part. (Myself, I have only experience wearing a Mandalorian 3d printed kit. So there are more gaps and not as much plate coverage, at least with this kit. Still, fans in the helmet are vital. Otherwise, you get fogged up almost immediately). Guess regarding taking steps, you would have to change really lot, particularly at the joints. Maybe with the next iteration? Looking forward for part 3.
This is awesome! These movie armors all make the same mistake of modern recreations that late-medieval/renaissance armor makers didn't : Breastplates stop at the natural waist, which is just at/above the navel.
Looking good already! You def took lots of time sanding the pieces darn... Maybe see if there is something to cover the elbows a bit, it's disturbing your arms can be seen so much on that spot, rest looks really nice
Just now found you from the TKOR situation. Went to go look for a playlist to watch and couldn't find one. I think it would be cool if there were a few playlist. Other than that, I look forward to watching.
When Nate does his next cooking video and gets his friends to taste test them, he should have to wear this Iron Man Suit during his video with his friends.
Great job, Nate! Now you need to do it all over again from scratch but this time with generic plastic and paint products to find out if anybody can tell the difference.
Nice build it is one of the best ironman suit here on youtube. Small opinion… I have seen a lot of these full body suits use a thin/soft fabric material for the inner layer between the joints. It might sound a bit counter-intuitive but could it be possible if a more resilient material is used instead? So something more like leather or vinyl fabric for example or even flexible parts made of softer and thinner plastic etc. I think it would make the suit more “high-class” and special in a sense. Also, a quick question: if you would ever build a second one after gathering all the experience from this one, would you consider making it matte? Cuz I feel like a matte finish would be easier to achieve and it would make it looks more like the last nano suits Tony wore in the movie, and I’d imagine it would also be closer to how wire brushed/matte metal looks than when they are in glossed finish
Ok so some may disagree but I feel that you have carried on the desire for homemade innovation that appeals to you rather than RU-vid audience which honors the original value of the channel which you left behind. Love your work and keep at it!
This is really cool, but I have always wanted to make a full Alphonse Elric suit of armor from Fullmetal Alchemist! I have experience working with sheet metal as a HVAC mechanic, but can't even image how to start a project like that. Any tips for me? Should I try to break and hammer everything or do you think welding is the way? Thanks for the inspiring video Nate
I've been wanting to do one since I got my 3D printer lol But I don't even know where I can sand or paint it. One downside of living in an apartment lol
Resin sanding can get pretty smooth and if you do it well enough you wont need to sand it but you just add resin in thin layers then cure it then sand away the uneven parts. That's what I'm gonna have done on my Halo Reach Noble 6 Mark V(B) helmet. I do have one question, How did you size it correctly to fit you cause that's the problem I'm having with my helmet.
Segment the abs and articulate the thighs/crotch to give you better mobility. And you can use a RGB fan in place of the arc reactor, supplies some ventilation to prevent you from over heating. Also, a black underlayer would help blend the seams a bit.
ok ask for only steel since he stated that is 3x more time than he can do. oh no my handle doesnt 'feel' good. what if I have no idea how my hand feels :( so if I order the knife type without a handle; do I get more than a 30% discount or?
If you have Stories archives enabled, you should be able to go to that and find the story that you posted, and find the answers/replies! Hope this helps!
Quick constructive criticism and this may just be me but the music is so dramatic and awesome it's distracting from your voice maybe turning it down might help I love the suit btw I wish I had the tools to do this
