Building an RC KIT - Tips and Tricks - Wrench w/Rich EP1

In this video, I take you through a 4 hour build in about 45 minutes. Along the way, I show tips and tricks on building the kit including turnbuckle assembly, shock assembly, tools I use and many other items. There are many ways to build RC's and not every way is correct in the eyes of the viewer. These ways work for me and hopefully they will help others.
Since the beginning roots of RC, there have been KITs. Only since the coined phrase RTR (Ready to Run) people have started to shy away from building their RC's and getting the instant gratification of running their RC 30 minutes after purchasing it (charge time). KIT RC's pack more value and give the RC enthusiast a feeling of accomplishment and ownership of that RC.

Thanks for this video. I am new to RC and found it really informative. I was wondering what brand of power screwdriver/hex bits do you use? I haven't built anything yet, but sometimes I can't loosen some of the screws by hand. A power tool may help me get them loose, especially at the start. Thanks!

I know this is old, but applicable to 90% of every kit you build. Nice work Rich! A tip I do for building shocks, is I like to build the cartridges (with green slime) on the 2mm mip driver (t-hat, o-ring, x-ring, o-ring) in reverse order on the driver shaft, make sure they are all aligned, and seat well together, then insert the driver into the shock body. 😁👍

great video. thinking of buying my first kit. this one looks phenomenal. i was wondering though, how come you dont mark the differential oil in the manual instead of marking up the parts?
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 3 года назад
The Tekno's are a step above the rest. Initially, I mark the fluid viscosity on the unit...then, as I make changes, I notate in the manual and replace the markings on the diff cup. Building so many RC's Frys your brain!

assembling cars is probably one of the main reasons that has me intrigued with the hobby grade level. However, being that I'm still a novice, would it be wise to make my first purchase a kit or just go with a full RTR? Something about that intangible feel of 'I made this' has me leaning towards the kit option.
@Ryland_28
@Ryland_28 7 лет назад
....hopefully there's a very basic one available.
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 7 лет назад
Potter tons I would say go with a kit....especially if Tekno has you interested. It's one of the easiest builds and the larger parts make it easy to assemble. The tougher part is selecting and installing the electronics, which depending on what you pick typically you can have a local shop install. And yes, the feeling of building something is what really started the hobby - plus you have all that knowledge of something does go wrong or break - how to fix it.

Hey Daniel, Glad it helped. The Tekno wheel wrench can be used for other brands, but was designed for the Tekno's as far as the hidden features (as a shock tool)

hey man, I don't know if you've ever built a kyosho but I just grabbed the st rr evo. I used to be pretty good at wrenching on my talion but this is my first kit so I'm a little confused and haven't quite done everything. So far I've finished the rear end and bolted it on the chassis have my turnbuckles and hubs pretty straight but the suspension already seems to be binding without the arms moving so far. I'll see the diff cups hitting the arms moving them one way. Any idea why? thanks
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 7 лет назад
K.O. Good deal on getting your first kit...Tekno is the way to go, they make some of the easiest to assemble kits. Make sure and take your time, read every step ahead of time. As for the binding on the suspension travel, you'll have to narrow it down and see where it's coming from. Make sure nothing is over tightened, start on one side and move to the other...there's a ton of possibilities...turnbuckles over clocked, sway bar tightened too much with the set screws, etx

A great tip when using an electric drill for when you put the screws into the plastic is to go slow and easy to keep from heating up, and melting the plastic. I learned the hard way with that on a kit I put together. I always spin the diffs a couple of turns to help spread the oil around, then let them set a bit before assembly in case you need to add some more to it. You were backward on the turnbuckle build. The notch in the center of the rod is for the left-handed thread side, not the right handed one. Awesome video and I just looked, and Tekno is out of these. Bummer, so I will wait till they have more in stock. Will watch the rest of the series on this buggy.

Do you think you can do a off road traxxas rustler build in the future

Although I did have a rustler at one point, I just don't see my self getting another Traxxas vehicle. Although a cool design, I prefer 4wd

Hi I’m new to rc model kits but I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a beginner who wants to learn how to build a dron, airplane, car etc from scrap. Appreciate it if anyone can tell me how to read the stats to know which parts match with what.

@@TheRCNetwork Yea we have an ancient RC8 RS RTR my son and I are converting to electric. We will be saving our pennies and hopefully pick up this kit come spring. We also do racing quads or I would just bite the bullet and pick it up now. Your welcome as I always love your content!

The RCNetwork this was my first build, It was decently easy. I would like to suggest to not do time lapse when you're building, I had to restart the vid probably 9 times haha . The music is great! Thanks for the inspiration and helpful tips!!

Brilliant video, loved building my NT48.3 last year. Noticed when you were installing the diffs to the gearbox you didn't use any shims because they had no lateral play in the cases which is incorrect. They're actually there to set the pinion mesh, on my NT48 it was in the manual to use one shim on either side.
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 7 лет назад
Here's whats stated in the EB48.4 manual: Note Step C-2: To properly shim the di, start by test tting the di with no shims and check for side to side play. If no (or very little) play is present, then continue on to the next step. If you feel excessive side to side play, then start by adding one shim on the gear side of the di assembly. This will move the mesh tighter and remove any play. If the mesh is too tight at this point, move the shim to the other side. In some rare cases, two shims may be necessary
