It took 4-years to plan, build and complete our home on wheels, Betsy.
We couldn't be happier with the outcome of our efforts and have since embarked on the 112,000km expedition through 64 countries. Betsy had to be ready for any - and everything that would come our way and the conversion to run on USED-COOKING OIL has made a huge positive financial impact on our venture.
The Matches on the Map project is the "world's first inter-continental stem cell donor recruitment drive" and will take us an estimated 10-years to complete (South Africa to Vietnam). To do this, we needed a full-time travelling home and mechanical friend - Betsy. Our budget was tight, as we make our income through selling hand-made goods at markets and managed to complete the build for a combined cost of less than a new pickup!
Using supplies that were available, the build has been somewhat unconventional as we took a path less chosen in the making of the machine. Some has argued that "reinventing the wheel" would leave us disappointed, but to date - Betsy has brought us comfort, joy, safety, and reliability. There is still a LONG way to go and many challenges to face, but the time, sweat and effort spent building Betsy, was well worth the work.
We had awesome support from our friends, family, followers and local business community. Thank you for being part of the project, now come along to enjoy the journey.
