This its a great podcast. If I ever get a club or lounge gig everything y'all talk about its right on money so that been said I love it I will share this out with my fellow DJ's and let them check this great podcast i'm listen it from begin all the way to the end. Keep up the work fellas. Funk Up Salute.
Hi guys I did my first internet radio broadcast ever on Saturday, I have never done a gig in a club but decided to get some radio work before I do clubs, I was told on Thursday it was old school to me old school is 80s hip hop, breaks etc... But it wasn't this old school it was 90s uk rave music I was told this Thursday so I had a day to get a set together of music I don't listen to or mix. I'm being counted down to go live and the dudes were like no pressure but there are 5000+ people listening.. As you can imagine I totally fell apart fucked up most of my mixes and I tried to scratch but that was off time 😂 😂 😂 I enjoyed every min and they said what I did good was good and my mistakes everyone does. Can't wait for the next one
I used to help my friend with his mobile dj business.. Mostly weddings. This dude is always late and I'd hate that we have to rush to load& unload his SUV, set up speakers, lights, facade, sound check, etc. I would be drenched in sweat and would have to change to formal clothes minutes before ceremony starts. Hated it! Moral of my story, get to venue early :)
I use to prepare my milk crates similar to a serato crate. it took some time but the whole night was in order (but can go off when necessary) it was hard but i would have four go to crates ready to go. I agree with these guys , if you dont know the music you lost the battle. like a true blue hip hop DJ asked to play top 80's salsa for 30 mins. this day and age it makes it easier but still know your music.
Hola! I’ve listened to most of your podcasts and hear a lot of talk about serato and vinyl, but what about standalone devices? A lot of people use cdj’s and now the new Denon 5000’s, it’d be nice to hear you guys talk about using those
I use the SD cards instead of hard drives... I have a hard drive I keep home as a back up and then the SDs are great for on the move... I once dropped a hard drive just pre-set it fell off the booth and just died. The SD cards are a little more robust, not as heavy and work much quicker.
The "battle" still exists and for some has evolved. Engineering speakers which can withstand a 2SC828-R buzz remains a worthwhile challenge for novices if they haven't it before solved. Yet doing that sort of thing in front of a live audience? In certain spheres, I suppose exploits pay some rents? Certainly keeping a beat flowing requires a mixer, two decks and ideally doubles for resilience. If they are all matched that is ideal! Yet affording that much redundancy and gear and prep time means I've missed many a meal.
Dope but I think as a dj you should be able to play anything, never take requests and play whatever you feel sounds good also taking into consideration what the vibe is. But if it is a “hip hop” night that doesnt mean you cant play rock or house music so long as you are good at mixing it should sound dope to everyone and they will even remember you more than the others who played the same ol shit.
