Josh want to compliment your video making skills, You picked a wonderful time of day to film Hannah with the richly colored late afternoon light and deep focus causing the background to be out of focus and the back lighting of the sun causing the top edge her hair to glow. Reminds me of so many memorable summer days in the Carolina outdoors. Outstanding work!
What a good, informative video! I usually interplant and mass plant flowers in my vegetable garden, but I'm giving more thought to creating a designated cutting garden as well.
Hi my name is Evan Price and I am a Wakefield HIgh student in Ms. Riedels’ Horticulture class. I liked how Hannah explained how she cuts flowers to make an arrangement. She first tests the flower to make sure it is sturdy by wiggling it from the stem. She picks the firmer flowers that do not wiggle, these will last longer in arrangements. She then cuts the flower just above the node, she makes them long and cuts at an angle. She strips the leaves so when the stem is put in the water. She usually cuts them 12-18 inches long in most cases. She explained how to create an arrangement by using greens that have different foliage and various shapes. She places the focal point flowers in the center and then fills out the shape of the bouquet with less stunning flowers. You can tell she is very artistic when she explains how she creates a design as she is inspired when looking at all the different items she has picked for fillers, foliage and focal flowers. You can tell Hannah really loves what she does!
Looking to grow some flowers myself next year, and getting prepared! Your videos with Hannah have been really well put together, and infinitely helpful! Thanks kindly, to the both of yous :)
Good tip about cooling off the flowers and folliage before arranging them. I never did that and my lemon balm and purple basil always drooped when out in the heat at my market. The cooler might work for lemon balm, but maybe not purple basil because it doesn't like to be chilled. I'll use that tip this year, though and see how things go! Thanks for the video!
Awesome video - super informative. Would not mind more of the same :) Researching now for a market garden that will be, God willing, veg and flowers. Thank you, Josh. I have and still am learning a lot from you and your guests.
Morning Josh , thank you for another great whos growing for a better and healthier planet for all of us.. I thought this interview was very interesting , They way Ms Hannah Ross smiled and explained how to arrange a bouquet and why , what to look for like if a flower is drooping over and how long you should cut the stem .the water bucket ect...... would like to see you interview her in her vegetable garden ............thank you as well Ms Hannah Ross
She mentioned using “sheiko” as a filler and used it in her kitchen. What is that plant actually called? It’s beautiful and I would love to grow it in my flower/herb garden. Thanks.
Really good questions Josh! Loved the video. If u r still in touch with Hannah, I'd love to know the variety of marigolds she grows. I've never seen any that huge!
