In this film, “Building Know-How: Facade Innovation,” JDS Development documents the complex facade installation process for the tower of 111 West 57th Street, one of the tallest towers in Manhattan and most slender residential skyscrapers in the world. Hear from collaborators at SHoP Architects and JDS Construction Group about pushing the limits of engineering, design and fabrication through a facade of unique terra-cotta shapes, ornamented with bronze filigree. The complex wave-like relief created dissipates into the clouds. In its final form, the 111 West 57th Street facade glints in the skyline, contributing unparalleled quality, materiality and dynamism to the New York skyline.

What a spectacular building. Its design screams 'New York City'. Placing those panels on the exterior is scary, but requires the utmost skill and safety. Hats off (so to speak) to those incredible architects, engineers, and especially, the construction workers. A job well-done 👍

Men need challenges. This building is a form of artwork created by many artisans that while stand and house people for hundreds of years. Also, yes it’s only 43 homes but in reality if you think about all the infrastructure needed to build 43 brand new luxury homes, you will understand why this is called building green. No new roads, sidewalks, pavement, or utilities were required for this building.
