Looks like a great bridge design. By opening up the spaces underneath it helps foster development and increases sunlight. The biggest problem with some older bridges and overpasses is that they cut off communities and created isolated areas that became blighted.
@greengardengreen6666
@greengardengreen6666 4 года назад
However, what about preservation of its heritage. In my opinion the old bridge forms part of the development of the city of Los Angeles. I’m sure that with a bit of forethought the old bridge could have been adapted with a design that represented the past, present and future.

Whelp it got a bit of a test last year with LA's 7.0. Not sure how far into construction it is or was but 7.0 is fairly big considering So-cal. We really haven't been getting many earthquakes these last ten years or so, and anything larger than a 4-5.0 is significant, at least down here. They are definitely idiots to challenge nature like that, but I didn't hear anything on the news about it so it must still be there.

From laborers to the project management team, a LOT of work, frustration, patients, communication, problem solving and teamwork goes into what we do! Countless hours missed with our families, away from home and stressing about the next day are worth it in the end. Because of our many sacrifices, we’ve built something amazing for the people and we’ve built something we are proud to put our name on!

Gosh. Took me a year and a half to come across this video, but thanks. I live near it, used to take the 6th Street Bridge all the time. Looking forward to this new bridge and surrounding development. Our river is basically a concrete ditch in this area (well most of its length). Visitors ask about the unfinished freeway. It will be good to have some public space around it.
@saybanana
@saybanana 5 лет назад
I hope development takes off when the bridge is done. There is a lot of construction for residential /commercial use on the west side of the LA river called the Arts District (mainly industrial/warehouse area where cheap rents and huge spaces enticed struggling artists). Warner Music and Spotify are now moving into a couple of new buildings. Lots of cool architecture for residential is also proposed. Also lots of trendy restaurants, cafes, too. But it is still 70+% industrial/warehouse. This should help bring more attention to the bridge on the west end. Also a proposal for a Metro station around this area since the rail yards for metro trains is here but the first station is currently Union Station just north of there. This would make this bridge more accessible and the area called the southern part of the Arts District, too. The other side of the river is industrial/warehouse as you can see in the video aerials. SO if development was built, park and other things like restaurants and cafes would bring in more people. Beyond the highways is a very poor residential area. Part of a good bridge use is having reasons for people to come. Brooklyn Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge are very popular bridges for pedestrians/cyclists/cars for different reasons. Hopefully this bridge can bring in people, too

I look forward to riding across The Ribbon of Light on my electric unicycle in 2020. Sorry the historical Sixth Street Viaduct had to be demolished, but the necessary replacement is impressive in this excellent presentation by The B1M. One question though, where is this "Los Angeleez" you speak of? Here in Los Angeles, we say "Los Angeles."

Good coverage. The bridge went 25% over budget, of course, and is still not done adding things they should've included, such as traffic barriers and security cameras. That's government for you. No building can be earthquake-proof. That's like a ship being touted as "unsinkable." Earthquake-resistant, yes.

It's always nice to see new things being built and the establishment considering public safety. That said, I know little about the previous bridge but it pained me a little to know that it was being removed. The design looks to have been quite special and it's architecture pointed to a different time and you could see that in the concrete shape design. I think it's a shame that it's gone, but to argue against it's demolition would be hypocritical of me as i'm the type of person that often is for the destruction of old builds (unless they have significant meaning).

It's going to be a tourist trap so the city will probably move any bums from the area by force if needed to create the illusion there is no homeless crisis here
