The side of the garage along the fence and the back of it should actually be gravel. Poor sunlight and low air movement can, and will, cause moisture issues which will lead to odors. Also, if you ever noticed commercial buildings have a gravel "runway" around them, that helps with rodent control. Just my two cents, but it will help a lot.

A slab that large should have had metal grid or rebar on 24" centerline. With no contraction joints, the slab will eventually crack. As the chemicals release during the curing process, the slab shrinks. My dad was a concrete contractor, I grew up working with him. He guaranteed against fire, flood and theft but not cracking 😂

I Imagined There Would Have Been Wire Or Small Rebar Across The Slab. Im Certainly Not A Concrete Professional, But I Do Utilities & Have Seen Many Concrete Pours. Although I Am a Bit North Of You, On the East Coast And Winter Temperature Might Be A Factor.

i am building similarly sized garage right now, and i had to put in the concrete around 1.4 tonnes of rebar, to keep it strong.. this one is really lacking on steel part :-D
@normanbrunt2053
@normanbrunt2053 4 года назад
How deep do you think the layer of concrete was? Should the earth foundation be compacted?
@stevereeves9104
@stevereeves9104 4 года назад
@@normanbrunt2053 the forms they used were 2" x 4", modern lumber isn't dimensional so, actual size is 1.5" x 3.5". That means the slab is 3.5" thick. Also, they poured the slab below grade, meaning the top of the concrete is at grade or slightly above. The organic material should have been stripped and sand brought in to bring the level up above grade to ensure it won't flood in wet months. I live in California, we have seismic activity here so everything is built with this in mind. I would rather over engineer something than go with the bare minimum to save money.

@@stevereeves9104 So true. I was really surprised at the lack of prep and fill. Especially no rebar in the footers for the red iron!

I would pull a large enough wire and put in a sub panel in the shop. It will give you better ability to adapt the shop power to your needs. It will also give you close access to shutting the power off in an emergency.
@mosbyjon

I cant help but believe sometime later you are going to be so disaponted you didnt pour thicker and add rebar. I understand it was 3000 with fiber but its a VERY THIN pour and they didnt even put any expansion joints in it. I just dont see how it will hold up over time.

Me being a HVAC tech / company owner I can’t wait to see what your guy puts in for A/C hopefully a high efficiency low ambient split system 3-4 ton head for all your A/C an heating needs for when it gets cool out 🤔 up here in NY I would of recommended at least putting radiant in the floor but I don’t think it gets cold enough down there for radiant heat

ok now that im at end of video 1 you can put plumbing, if you put it and test it thats fine, your water as you said can always be ran around if you leak or from outside in they make all kinds of stuff nowadays 2 the rebar please tell me he suggested it atleast , if not i mean i hope the slab holds but it may crack brother and pull apart the reason they add rebar in the center mat is so it doesnt spread apart when it cracks , a crack will form and the rebar will hold it from spreading more then a centemeter 3 the ac pad they couldve edged the other side of the 2x4 so it didnt look that way XD when you take that 2x4 out its gonna break some off anyways good looking slick finish , called a burned in finish , looks great

If you are using concrete with fiber in it, that would explain having no rebar or wire mesh. I've used the fiber concrete in misc commercial constructions and it works pretty well. Great Job yall! Hard work pays off!

FY! Perfect timing, got the guys coming to pour my 24x30 next week. I’ve got it prepped w/6” of compacted gravel. Ready except for final water and power stub-ups, I’ll turn them up once they get it framed out. Doing a 8x12 lean to on 6x6s with a gravel base for my 3-point implements.

at 7:36 "we got a 12 inch... these are 12 inches... well it's 12 inches, it's a "footer"-- get it?".... Hahaha... No dude. Just No. That's not why it's called a footer. "Footer" is just slang for "footing". The footing is the part of any building where it seats itself into the ground. It can be any width or depth, and that part is determined by the size and weight load on the walls, frost zones etc. If yours was literally 12" it was just a coincidence. Aside from razzing you on that, you have done an excellent video here and can't wait to see the whole thing completed. Keep up the good work. I plan on doing a building like this in my backyard soon, and watching your journey is super helpful.
