Large machines and a small space are not really compatible. But if you have nothing else and still want industrial equipment you have to do it anyway. Let’s see if 5 sqm can fit 2.5 tons of machinery.

I love your work but please no gloves at any tool that spins and especially the lathe. You do such a great job, it would be a shame to see your hands get ripped to shreds.

If you don't touch a spinning object. Gloves and long sleeves is no problem 😊

You are a monkey if you put your fingers in a spinning thing, The long chip can grab your skin too, you dont use close? use a plier, a stick, don toch it, like in a drop forgin power hammer, use tools

I agree with this sentiment, I worked in the medical field before, I have seen machine operators come into the emergency room with whole limbs missing after getting sleeves or gloves caught in the lathe (or degloved fingers on the mill).

Very interesting and a superb use of very limited space. Excellent job on recreating the thread dial indicator, the result looks really good. 3D printing of tool holder storage brackets was a good idea. I have the same lathe as you but I think mine is slightly longer (40" variant) Vielen Dank!

What a great video!!! I have a narrow but longish workshop with limited space & everything is hanging on the walls like yours. Occasionally I have a hanging bracket/shelving reshuffle to get that extra inch!!!!

Amazing job! ill probably take some inspiration for setting up my own garage shop soon. Might I recommend making a access hole in the side of the box holding all your taper holders? Knowing myself I would definitely drop something in there and struggle to take it back out haha

Hey man well done organizing your tiny machine shop. I know exactly what it's like, my shop also has an available floor space of 5 square metres which houses a medium sized 900mm x 300mm lathe, medium sized universal knee mill ( hafco HM54GV for those in Australia ) I also have a universal tool and cutter grinder a pedestal drill a jib crane, small pedestal grinder/linisher and tooling trolley for the mill plus other tool boxes oh and a bench with a vice all in that space, outside that room I have mig and tig welders and a medium sized band saw. If I have to set up the mill for horizontal cutting I have to take the grinder/linisher outside otherwise I am trapped in the room. I don't know what the humidity is like where you are but one tip I would give you especially having a 3D printer is everywhere you have metal and wood surfaces touching together put a plastic barrier between them or you will have a rust problem because wood draws moisture from the air and holds it. I have to keep everything covered in plastic here due to the humidity. Oh and magnetic pickup tools are great for cleaning up the chip mess. Happy cutting and look forward to your next video.

Hi Phil, I’m really enjoying your channel. I’ve watched your previous two videos on your lathe overhaul and found them very useful because I’ve just purchased 4 days ago) a Cholchester Triumph 2000 which I believe is the same as yours with just a different name. The dealer I purchased it from has changed the gearbox oil but I’m not sure what he used so I will drain it and put the correct oil in it. Thanks for that piece of important info. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺
@PhilEngineering
@PhilEngineering 2 месяца назад
Hi, no the triumph is actually the bigger brother, a really nice machine. Take a look inside the manual what they recommended and then ask what the modern version is. Pretty sure the triumph takes shell oil too.

Thats not necessary The slide is running on the bed. Its better to put the level on the slide. So you can even put small deviations of the bed. The touching surface us way bigger with the sled

How does that threading indicator works if the gear stack doesn't engage the key?
@PhilEngineering

The stack is just for storage only the gear at the end is engaging the leadscrew. The different gears are for different pitches like the plate shows.
