Building my First Outpost | Survival Fountain of Youth Gameplay | Part 2 

Kage in a survival game: "you aren't bothering me so I won't kill you" Me in a survival game: "im not bothering you so please don't kill me"

Backpack and coat combo are top tier -- when the coat wears down to almost nothing take it off and turn it into leather - which you can use to repair the backpack getting you through till you can make your own leather. And every part of an animal has a use at some point including heads. Fishing used to be meh but has been buffed - they give more food than meat now.

Pro tips: 1) Take the backpack if you're not playing on very hard mode (which doesn't allow you to have any items from the ship). Navy Coat is second best option and you'll find one of these later in the game as well. 2) Take these items off when you're not actively using them. They will take damage every second they're being worn. 3) Go directly to the nearby Chronicles and spend the first two points in Thirst Control and Hunger Control under survival abilities as soon as you can. You can accomplish this in the first two days while living off of coconuts and such and it will make the rest of game so much less stressful. 4) If you want to min/max your Survival Abilities you need to then focus on Learning. Ranks 2 and 4 of this ability are NOT retroactive. If you start completing tasks before acquiring rank 2 Learning you will not get credit for those. 5) If you can, skip the bed of leaves and make the Hut Made of Leaves. Otherwise make this your priority. Here's an easy way to assemble the heavy parts... 6) As you collect heavier building materials like long sticks and big branches, you can create blueprints out in the field and add the materials to it. You can move these blueprints around on your cursor by using G to bring up the "change" menu and then space bar to move. Yes it's cheesy but if you're encumbered and don't want to leave materials behind (or make another trip back) then you can do this with many things later in the game. Be warned, you can't recover items from incomplete blueprints so try to use this trick with things you're going to need. 7) If you're collecting big branches and you're encumbered, try converting a few of them into short and long handles. These are needed later and they weigh a fraction of the original branch. 8) Here's a tip for moving tree logs rapidly. You need 1 to create the workbench so may as well use the blueprint trick I mentioned. Once the carpentry workbench is made you can use it to "carry" heavy logs. Take it with you to cut down trees. Add the log to the bench. At this point you won't be able to pick up the workbench, but if you select an item to craft with the log, you will. At that point you can pick up the bench with the log "inside" and sprint back home with both in tow. To make this even more efficient, bring a saw and process a few logs in the field before heading back home. *Be Warned* if you are attacked while carrying anything on your cursor you will drop the item and it will "teleport" back to where you picked it up. So it's best to periodically place the item on the ground and pick it up again to prevent long runs back to retrieve it. Just remember where you last placed it along the way. 9) There are two abilities that are like turning on cheat mode for when you're mid-to-late game. Concentration and Alchemistry. With maxed out Concentration you will be able to nearly constantly see all dropped items and creatures highlighted at far distances, even through terrain. Aggressive animals will be highlighted red, passive ones are yellow. It's like having a free Bird Potion you can turn on/off whenever you need it. This ability makes Crocodile Island trivial. (Devs, ignore this! This is NOT broken. It's perfectly balanced. I repeat, do not change this ability!!) 10) Alchemistry: unlimited Buffalo Potions early on and the final rank in this skill is a killer. No, literally... it kills everything dead, instantly. Tired of jaguars guarding that ore deposit? 1 arrow = dead. The only drawback is you don't get to harvest the meat but by that point in the game if food is a problem you're... well just stop and go play Raft or something. lol 11) Hunger Control/Thirst Control rank 3, is the 10% worth it? Yes and no. If you're playing Hard or Very Hard modes then yes, absolutely. If not then they become a lot less useful. While sleeping you will recover HP if your hunger and thirst meters are above a certain level. On very hard move this is 85+ so as you can see, there's only a 15 point sweet spot in which you can naturally regain HP while resting. Increasing this by 10 is huge later in the game, especially once you gain the ability to recover HP even while "diseased" via rank 3 Better Sleep ability. Diseased is any ailment you have in the game, even if it's a burn or injury. 12) Before yesterday's full release I had about 1300 hours played in this game. During my most recent playthrough on very hard, I was able to max out every Survival Ability except for one with a few points to spare. It looks like they're being very generous again with points so you should be able to eventually get nearly everything in the tree.

I recommend setting up a permanent home at the spot by the spyglass (so do the developers apparently). It's as centrally located as you can get while still having access to your boat/fast travel. All resources are relatively close except obsidian and even that is at least reached by road. A few more tips: 1. Don't forget to bring charcoal and map when the quest takes you to the top of the mountain. 2. Don't sleep on the palm sap collector. It's amazing and you need to make one for your survival tasks anyway. 3. Rank 1 of Concentration will highlight special objects and spears/arrows that you've thrown/fired. Super helpful.

The Navy Coat is imo a must have in any game where you can take items from the ship. It is way better than anything you can make early game. Fishing might be better now.. The soaking indicator when your out in the rain or go play with fishs, is only an issue if it fill up, because then you get the "soaked" status, which can make you sick. This is another reason why the Navy Coat is good, as you won't get "soaked", or sunburned, plus you are more resistant to other stuff.. If you upgrade the raft, you can harvest everything on all the small islands/rocks off the coast.

Hiya Kage! I really enjoyed ep1 and now ep2. Those birds, man, what a pain. I remember being a part of the play test on this May '22. In the devs discord and talking with him. Great dev for sure! It was a lot tougher due to all the balancing and other issues. Yes, I remember the cartography trees back in early access. You would climb up and instead of it putting you on the limb it would randomly cause you to fall. Also you would stand on the limb and slowly slide until you fell off. It was so frustrating back then. It is looking and playing so much better now. This is the only game outside of Ark and very few others I played. It was hard enough and yet fun enough to continue to play. It is far better now for sure. I may need to give it a try again. God bless ya and Autumn!

Looks nice, very easy and simple. Some games you just wana chill you know.

I think that best way to start spending survival points is to get lerning to lvl 4 - to be exact to lvl 2 before you finish fiftyh survival task and lvl 4 before any skill (harvesting, crafting, swiming ect..) reaches lvl 6 - to be able to get max posible survival points On the note you wont be able to repair backpack until you get to next region and it prabobly be to damaged by that time. You will have to make second type of bag that is less efective but since you constantly increase your strenght you will be able to carry more than you can right now

Not sure I'm loving the changes since I last played. TBH I'm kind of annoyed that the game now gifts you a raft, water collector, and tools early on. Not to mention that it basically prompts you to build a base in the cove. Hopefully all of these things are only available on easy/normal mode and removed on harder difficulties.

however in beginning its a bit of build base and storage and gather a ton. then to hunting everything, exploring and getting all pieces needed to then head to the next region. devs have made a bunch of changes from early on and game has gotten better. if you dont like the default game FOV which i think is 65 and you want 90 my mod is on nexus.
