Setting 40' trusses with my Clark crane that has 92 ft of boom, installing 5/8" OSB sheathing and then ice and water and elphant skin underlayment. Also picking up a Grove 71' boom lift with my semi truck and lowboy

My grandfather was working in Boston in a tall building. His buddy fell from the 6th floor and landed on a pile of sand. Got up, shook his head a bit and climbed back up. I am so glad to see safety harnesses. This was long before safety rules.

6 stories you say sounds like a tall story, landing on sand same as concrete at that height, even water would cripple you. Nice story but reality says not.
@glenlongstreet7

Hi Pete, I know that it sounds like a 'tall story', so I looked on the web. Typed in man falls 6 stories. A lot of people have fallen that far and farther and lived. My grandfather was born in 1897. He served in WW1 as a propeller carver at Great Lakes. He was disappointed that he was not called up. He was an honorable and respected man. I suppose I could comb the Boston newspapers and see if it was reported, but I rather doubt that would have caught the attention of a news reporter. The man might have been docked some wages for fooling around on the job.

In case I haven't said it before, I'll say it now - The extra effort you put into video production with thoughtful camera placement as well as post production/editing so as to deliver an entertaining video experience for your growing audience, is very much appreciated. Just the availability of the high resolution drone for the home video creator, really moved it all to a Hollywood level product (minus the perverted culture of weirdos of course), yeah it's really great! Good progress on the building too!👍

Awesome shop Jesse. But I'm guessing you dont have many crane operator's watching. I want to politely give you some advice when extending the boom. Hydraulic cranes and boom trucks have slider pads that the boom extensions ride on. They will wear out fast if not properly lubricated. And the least friction on them is at approximately 65 degrees. And its common safety to have a tag line on everything you pick. Love your channel brother. Always stay safe.

I worked for a truss manufacturer for a while. We always had the customers verify the individual truss shop drawings prior to fabrication to confirm their preferences. Also we offered an option to apply OSB sheathing to the gable trusses at the plant (huge time saver). Great job on setting the system!
@jmuller86

yea I did get those drawings, but didnt really pay attention too closely. so it really is my fault that I didnt get the drop down trusses. I just thought since I gave the lumber yard my plans that called for the dropped down trusses that they would put them on there.

Fabulous videography of the first trusses being set … drone view must be useful to see in the cab too. Helmet cam added a closeup view, thanks. The bracing at the end wall to start was brilliant. I once helped our contractor set up trusses with no bracing and it was sketchy, especially using us owners very unskilled labour to hand bomb the trusses into place. It did work out well, although another carpenter crew a few years later at a neighbouring house nearby, left unsupervised, didn’t put any bracing up and installed all the trusses. They went home for the night. Big wind cane up overnight and blew them all down and destroyed them. This was at the end of the pandemic when trusses lead time was months. They had to stick frame the roof to complete the job. 😮 Thanks for the video Jesse, from Canada 🇨🇦

5/5/24...so Jesse, am ~50 minutes into this 'raising roof truss' video & had to say A+ on all your 'bracing, diagonals, horizontals, latterals..' & of course your little inspector Noah with his Hard Hat 'slanted' to convey his '5o Mission Crush' experience💪😊👍ya know, like those Hollywood movie stars in WWII movies...well maybe you are too young to remember, but that particular hat-on-head profile was the absolute example of unrivaled combat experiences & is living proof of exactitude & perfection!..so Jesse, loved the waay good extra bracing while erecting those 'web' Gable Braces. No doubt '50 Mission' supervisor Noah approved!! ..just gotta love the combo of your construction experience & cinematic producer/director instincts to show-off your main man, Noah! garage coming along Jesse. setting those trusses is art in itself, to get them dang up on is some voodoo magic. nice catch on trusses starting to get out of whack. ice and water shield gets frustrating, eats up alotta time getting it to lay right. your frustration with that boom lift justified Jesse. if you can 'borrow' parts off it to keep the other ones running, it served some purpose

How do you find deals like that?? $3500?? Man, what a buy. Your shop is coming together nicely. I've built lots of homes, but back in those days we never used fall protection so I've never used it at all. But I wonder, have you seen those self retracting devices that basically will only let the rope go out slowly? So they are always trying to wind up a little bit, but if you fall it will allow the rope to go out but slow enough that you would just lower to the ground without being hurt. If you had one of those attached to your crane up above the roof, it seems like you would be safe and not have any rope management issues either. I've done a lot of shingle roofing too. Hopefully never again though! ;-)
@jmuller86
@jmuller86 4 месяца назад
Those retractable tethers are really nice but they are like $600 for a halfway decent one. I never used to use fall protection either but with so many people watching me I dont want to set a bad example and have somebody get hurt. But also its nice to know I will be there for my kids. That lift was a steal for that much. Once in a while the controls dont work for a few minutes but atleast I will have the patience to work on it vs the gas engine one
@Spitter-ud8jd
@Spitter-ud8jd 4 месяца назад
@@jmuller86 The $600 bucks ain't even the bad part . It only good for 5 years. All safety gear must be replaced every 5 years. If you need a harness you the cut man on the ground. I've been a carpenter since 76. I don't wear a leash .There for dogs.🍻

@lunchlady2023 4 месяца назад
Put outriggers on the basket of the high reach and set all plywood from that. It works good. Also that harness is killing me. With the rope grab below your feet almost off the edge will do nothing. You’ll be on the ground before it grabs and the stretch is taken up plus the lanyard had 6-10 feet in it.

Excellent job as always! I wish I would have built a 40x60, but I was only planning on putting a boat in it. Ive' determined if I built one the size of a football field I would have filled it though! If you haven't already, don't give up on that man lift. I have never heard of that engine, maybe for a tractor? Find a 300 6 cylinder and rebuild it. You will never have to mess with it again and like you said that other machine is heavy. I have always been a Ford guy, but I am older than you and when Ford went to this variable timing crap they had some incredible engines. It would be of no use to you but the 4.0 210 hp v6 was bad ass in 4 rangers I had then before that the 260, 289, 302 were incredible and my dad had a "truck" 360 new in 1972. I had a new 1991 F 250 4x4 with 4:10.1 limited slips with a port fuel injected 460 that was a monster. Those 300 inline 6's are unstoppable. They are in Tugs to pull planes. I had my first diesel experience 2 years ago I bought a TYM T 25 with a Kukje diesel that kicks my neighbors 37 hp Deeres butt in lift capacity and all the way around. I researched for 6 months and neither Deere or Kubota could touch TYM. TYM made Branson, RK, and maybe Mahindra? I was skeptical about the Kukje but they have been in Deere and other tractors since 1959 and I believe Cummins makes them. I did have a JD 430 with a 3 cylinder Yanmar 20 hp that was a beast. Just remember. If it's too small you have room to build another one! lol
