As promised I said I would make a video to show the dummy's guide to building my silent air compressor.
Please understand this will be very boring for the experienced builder. This is aimed at the total Noob like me who is learning from scratch with no experience of Compressors.
I have to thanks two people especially.
1. Dimitris from Jimmyscanal without whose help this would never have happened.
2. Steve Jordan from Steve Jordan who gave me some nice little ideas.
Some of the items and suppliers I used:
Loxeal 18/10: amzn.to/2XdH8zM
Various compressor parts: www.fps-compressors.co.uk/
Regulator: bit.ly/2UBmrRi
Hydraulic hose: bit.ly/2UkEgzf

Just stumbled across your videos as I was looking for more information on my pillar drill. It’s great seeing videos that explain subjects from the perspective of someone who is new to the area. Would love to see a video on lathes. Would love to be able to learn and justify getting one myself 😁. Thanks again! Steve

Hey Nick, Great built and a really fine video; all the details are explained so that anyone that needs a silent compressor can make it with ease, that's awesome!! Thanks again for the shout out, it really honors me! Your friend Dimitris

Hi we saw your last video about making your silent unit for air build up and storage. We thank you for the detailed share, this is likely a true help to many to come. Lance & Patrick.

Hi Lance and Patrick. Thank you so much for your kind remarks. A bit basic for you guys :) but hope it will help someone, somewhere. Thanks again. Love your channel

Good project. I have built a similar compressor. I suspect that the issue you are having with your unloader valve "leaking" may be because you are using the incorrect type. There are two types. One (and the one that seems to be most commonly supplied with pressure switches) is called a delayed unloader valve. It actually remains open once the compressor starts running in order to provide a "soft start" for the motor and pump. Once a certain flow rate is reached the pressure differential causes it to close. The flow rate from your pump is unlikely to be reaching the level required to close this type of unloader and hence it will just stay open and vent once the pump starts. What you want is a regular unloader valve. The delayed/soft start makes sense on larger compressors but it won't be needed for that type of pump. Simply removing the head pressure should be sufficient.

Your build is the first one I’ve seen, making a compressor that I’ve actually wanted to build one for myself. I have been using refrigeration motors for vacuum pumps, I love your compact design!

Alden Clarke thank you so much but I can’t take credit for the design. I was following the design by Jimmy whom I credit in the description. Try it. It’s a great tool.

I noticed that contrary to other you tube instructional videos you only have one valve in the tank whereas others make a second then weld a 1/2" nut in then have the air go into tank from there. Is your way better if so why?
@Ukenick

Hi Pete, good point. The first reason is very simple. When I made this, I didn't know how to weld! Which I am actually addressing now and trying to learn. The second reason is with this particular design with the 3 way coupler, I didn't need to as I can link the pressure switch, tank and non return valve with the one coupling. One thing I would have liked to have done is to have cut out and welded a valve at the bottom of the tank, which in the future would make it much easier to empty the condensate and gunk that is bound to accumulate in the tank. I have no idea if this design is better, but works extremely well and the compressor has been hugely useful in the workshop: cleaning around my mill and lathe, but also inflating the tires of my motorcycle. Hope this helps. Take care.

@@Ukenick thankyou for your prompt reply. As you might be abke to tell I intend to make my own compressor as was intending to use an old propane bottle and like you cannot weld so was wondering if I could tap straight into the base for the water drain. And screw into it using the thread compound? What do you think is there really a need weld a nut? Also I forgot to say thanks great video.

@@Petes-Page Thanks for the compliment :) My only concern about what you say is that when the tank is at full pressure, will the depth of your tapped hole be sufficient to handle a pressure of 6 or 7 bar? I am simply not knowledgeable enough to answer that. Just a concern I would have. You might use facebook or something to find someone local who has a welder to help you. It would be a five minute job. Maybe a local car mechanic for the price of a beer? Just a thought.
