Here's some of the resources I used to create my CAD model:

Unfortunately, that second document is for a newer version of the press than I'm targeting, so while those side views were amazingly helpful, not all the details are correct.

Importantly, a few mechanisms are only partially implemented. I treated this CAD model as more of a "sketchpad" for myself and if I didn't think I needed to work through a mechanism, I omitted it.

One thing to consider is the sheer tonnage of pressure these machines require to make good prints. The press we have that you're referencing can close with over 30 tonnes of pressure. Sometimes that much pressure really is needed depending on the print coverage. The weight of the flywheel is what carries all that energy and momentum so it's gotta be heavy!

Really good point! I hadn't considered that explicitly, but that makes a ton of sense. I'd be curious to know roughly how heavy you think the flywheel is on your full size press - would be a good metric for me to use later on when making that piece.

@@RyanGausMakes Ours is a 14.5x22 inch Chandler & Price printing press. The biggest made at the time. The flywheel is easily between 100 and 200 pounds all its own.

Only 3 minutes in, and am completely hooked...I’m in the same boat (wanting to buy a press, but can’t afford to)...I can’t believe there hasn’t been a more modern way of achieving the same look and feel that a traditional letterpress creates. I originally backed “The Slate Press” many years ago on Kickstarter, but it failed and they gave up

Nice, glad you're enjoying it! That slate press looks pretty cool, it's unfortunate it never was mass produced.
