Good stuff! Thanks for sharing your journey. Getting a tour of a place under construction is informative, especially since materials and techniques vary greatly from country to country. That home looks as if it will be built to last.
Thank you very much Troy for your comment. Yes, building in Italy is definitely a learning experience :-) In our experience, finding the right builder in Northern Sardinia can prove challenging.
Hi, finally the project is moving again. It was nearly impossible to get a full estimate from the builder… we spent €85k on the land, and then about €300k to build… but let’s see as we’re still in the process. I hope to do a video one day with the completed project and all the lessons learned… but it would have been better and easier to buy something already existing… not easy to coordinate the building on an island!
You have a beautiful home there. Try to get the landscape so that rainwater runs away and down from the house , like maybe a slope of one inch per yard ... 3 cm per meter.
Hi, would you recommend ready projects e.g. where you purchase a land on an already established site (where the overall site has a full plan) - I know it would probably not provide the privacy and wonderful nature exposure like you have, but would that not be easier to manage as a project ?
Hello, definitely! This project proved to be much more challenging, so either buying an existing home and remodeling, or buying from a developer, you would remove some of the headaches we faced! It was definitely a massive learning curve about building on an island in Italy!
Sardinia is in a very low earthquake zone. I was looking at the Greek Islands but west of the main land (kafalonia Corfu) and north of Crete is a very high earthquake zone.
Hi, we’ve invested in both. We have a contact in Real Estate in Sardinia who is trustworthy. I would recommend buying something already built in Sardinia, given the challenges we faced. Right now we are focused more on Montenegro with two real estate projects, and have built a good network of experts. You can write to me at info@bluevistaproperties.com and we’ll see how we can help!
In Sardinia did you find the North coast water temperature colder than the south coast? Common sense dictates that the closer you get to the equator the hotter the water will be.
Hi, I checked and today the temperature of the sea in Palau is 24.9 degrees celcius, and exactly the same in Cagliari in the South of the island. You might find some differences in temperature mostly linked to currents and if there is a large shallow area where the water becomes warmer. I hope this helps!
