The boom for your blog light is brilliant. Suggestion, if you are not doing it already - a single light bounced up off the perfectly angled ceiling would give you a nice, diffuse wrap around light. I got a (used!) Yongnuo YN-300, an inexpensive new dc 2A power supply both for under $30 delivered.When I started live streaming, used it instead of a far more expensive F&V 1x1 LED panel on a hunch with initial studio set up. Works great! Your set up overall - hard to improve on. Kudos!!!
@GaryHughesOfficial

For sure I will be adding things as I go, but in order to keep making videos, I need to make it as fast as possible to set up and shoot. Too much effort and I’ll just put it off. If my channel starts making lots of money, I might have more time to set up more lights to make it more polished :) thanks for watching!

Hi Gary I would change how the background rolls are stored, they will warp stored on top of each other like that over time or possible sag. Ideally they should be stood vertically which is easy done with half width rolls but not so much the full width ones. I use 100mm pipe connectors used on drain pipes and mount them to the wall on a batted or bit of wood. they hold diffusion rolls or the half width paper rolls vertically no problem. Would use them on full width also if my studio had high enough ceilings. Studio looks great. All the best for 2021.
@GaryHughesOfficial
@GaryHughesOfficial 3 года назад
Hey Richard, I have been told that before, but they are also getting damaged on the ends when stored vertically. If I notice any sagging I will make an adjustment, but for now I am gonna roll with it
@rickjbradbury
@rickjbradbury 3 года назад
@@GaryHughesOfficial Ba dum tishhh Yeah I can see the edges being damaged being a potential problem. The larger issue in my studio over here in the UK is humidity. Getting to the point where I an just going to say screw it and build a cyc.
@GaryHughesOfficial

If I notice any bowing, I might add a third hook between the two on the sides for more support. I have a couple extra hanging around, thanks for the feedback :)

Oh my gosh, completely worth it. I always thought of peg boards as nerdy, but the Wall Control boards are pretty excellent. Since they keep in such good shape over time, you can often find them for sale on Facebook marketplace, Letgo, places like that at a discount.

Studio looks great. I'm constantly trying to find ways to store and organize in effective ways. I recently hung up the papers using scratched CD's/DVD's reinforced with washers. They hang from a wire shelf. Wish I could include a picture. I also have horizontal wall storage and use center support to prevent sagging.

Looks awesome! What do you use to hang your backgrounds? Do you have something permanent or just use a background stand? Congrats!
@GaryHughesOfficial
@GaryHughesOfficial 3 года назад
For the paper I use C-stands with grip arms, works like a champ and doesn't take ages to set up. For other backgrounds I have a Savage Universal background with a wooden brace that has a hole in the center so it can sit on top of any light stand. I use a-clamps to attach my cloth backgrounds to that. I like stuff that packs up and rolls away easily.
@carolwalker191
@carolwalker191 3 года назад
Love, love, love it! Well done Gary! I'm stressing over downsizing and how to store and hang my backdrops (Freedom Cloth!!! Need. More. Freedom Cloth!) I love your hooks and the way you store your backdrops but how are you hanging them? And are you all paper? I'm loosing sleep over how to hang my canvases.
@GaryHughesOfficial
@GaryHughesOfficial 3 года назад
I have a couple of canvases and the best way to work with them to make it easy is to take a length of wood, drill a hole for a light stand in the middle, and attach the canvas to it. You can set this on top of any light stand for use and wrap the canvas around it for storage. A thick dowel rod from Home Depot would be perfect for this.

Very nice! IDEA: Personally, I'd like to have a portable wall (or even two) to add a little separation between the lounge/office area and the shooting area. A couple of white walls on wheels would be great, and are simple to build with some 2x4s and drywall (metal 2x4s make them weigh less . They would also help with the noise, if that's still an issue.) And, if you want display space, they would give you wall space for that. When you need more shooting space, you just push them against the wall.
@GaryHughesOfficial
@GaryHughesOfficial 3 года назад
It’s certainly an option. That being said, I really love the loft feel it has with everything all in one open floor plan. Probably gonna go with it like it is but I could always add later :)

You really should store those paper rolls on end. Even with narrow rolls that are less likely to bend, once you start stacking them up on top of each other you're more likely to get creases or moisture trapped between them. I learned a neat trick from Tony Roselund, ropes hanging from the ceiling with a toggle wider than the tube inside diameter at the bottom. Drop the toggle through the tube and your paper hangs vertical. The studio came out awesome though. I'm seriously jealous of the size.
@GaryHughesOfficial
@GaryHughesOfficial 3 года назад
Hey Jimmy! I considered it before I went this way, and I don't think that I am going to see much bending as you describe it. Maybe over time, and if so I will just add another hook in the middle if that's the case. Thanks for watching as always :)
@jimmyhill9591
@jimmyhill9591 3 года назад
@@GaryHughesOfficial I never saw bowing of the tubes on my 6 footers, but unless I rolled them back up super tight I did get a lot of creasing. The bigger problem was NJ, much like Florida, being very humid. Rolls I rarely used/moved would discolor where they touched others.
