Hi! I'm Gary, a photographer, educator, and father of three living and working in Florida, USA. I have wanted to start a RU-vid teaching channel for a while to share quick solutions to persistent problems I have learned to deal with after more than a decade working as a professional photographer. This channel will contain short tutorials, product reviews, and other commentary on photography and being a creative entrepreneur. Raising a family and paying the bills with photography might also come up.
New 3MT (3 Minute Tutorial) videos weekly (mostly) on Wednesdays. Currently working on a few other series ideas TBA.
These videos SHOULD be boring - it's a "what's in my bag?" Why is it so very interesting?! Haha. Thanks for bringing us behind the curtain in your work!
I wanted a camera the same color as my soul! JK, the silver is beautiful, but it attracts a lot of attention. I am usually trying to be stealthy when using it and I feel like the black doesn't satnd out quite as much. Fingers crossed!
High end Canon sensors in my opinion have a certain look about them, i had 1D MK iii's 10.1 MP and the quality was stunning for the MP. Not sure how this all translates to printed images but clearly from your tests most of these sensors are capable of producing nice large prints. Now the R1 is going to be 24 MP so i understand this kind of proves that you don't need much more unless your cropping heavily, and to me noise is always better controlled in these sensors.
Oh man! I am on pins and needles waiting for Evoto to add the two lines of code it owuld take to be compatible directly with Headshot Tools. I'm pretty sure it's gonna happen, but right now it's not directly compatible. I do, however, deliver same day retouched images with HT, it just doesn't exactly flow with instant delivery yet. So I tether into C1 then export jpegs just like in the video.
Hey Gary. Is the SpyderX Pro still the best for its price? - I know the video is quite old, so was just wondering if you recommend any others for roughly the same price.
Been waiting for part 2 to drop. For the bare bulb I recommend the AD-S15 Flash Lamp Tube Bulb Protector Cover. Fits perfectly, is affordable and gives solid protection. I also carry an OCF from Godox (S1) that can double as on/off camera flash or a remote trigger.
I own that lens (and it's an awesome headshot lens). It actually lives with my lead shooter so I don't carry it with me. Definitely worth owning. I have found it to be as sharp as the 2.8 and very fast focusing.
Okay, I'll put that on the list. Enjoying mine so far just want some more time with them before I feel like I can put myself out there as any kind of expert :)
Thank you. But I must have missed something. You compared it with products at half the price, but what about the end results? Does it giver you better looking photos than the others? Does it provide better, more even fill? Does it give you better catchlights?
No, largely the same results. The difference I think is in the build quality and now the engineering. I feel like the price is finally competitive for what you get :)
If you look, I do have different aperture values on BG and subject. The subject meters at F5.6 and the BG at F8, a one stop difference. This formula produces a solid white background without blowing it out or reflecting back into the lens :) all in one exposure
Thank you! I'd love them to add a feature to get a consistent crop across a range of headshots to all the heads are in the same place and same size, cropped around the same area on the chest
That would be cool! The good news is that Capture One just added that in the latest update. So if that's something you need often it might be worth a look :)
There is certainly a bit of that polar express look to most of them, but as a tiny LinkedIn photo or email signature, it probably wouldn’t matter to most people. Interested to see where it goes. Thanks for watching!
So far, nothing I have found even comes close. There are a couple up and coming apps that I am watching, but none that seem to be as responsive to photographers. The two things I said I wished Evoto had when I first started were stray hair removal and glasses glare. WIthin 5 months they had added them. It's just bonkers. Thank you for watching!
Honestly, I thought about this, but I honestly believe that doesn’t matter to white a lot of people. I just recently saw a FB ad for one of these generators and it 500+ comments with people saying how they used it and were thrilled. In terms of running a headshot studio that focuses on teams and events, I don’t think that being “real” is even in the top ten most important things to my clients
anyone know why photo editing software doesn't have something like the flesh line on a vector scope for video editors? Seems it would be beneficial for stills.
This is wizardry. Does the gallery and/or email allow you to include a link for them to leave a review on google? And how do you handle image release signature from each participant?
Great questions! Headshot Tools has places for 2 hyper-links and one email link that show at the top of the galleries, works like a charm. You can also add a model release to the customizable sign-up form that HT creates. Headshot Tools has a YT channel with all the support videos so you can see inside the platform www.youtube.com/@HeadshotTools - there is also a FB group you can join (you don't have to be a paid user) with loads of great info - facebook.com/share/WqoorBh5JHpkXrrQ/ - Thanks for watching!
Best way to start is joining the FB group. It's such a great community and you will get a ton of info, not just about Headshot Tools :) facebook.com/share/WqoorBh5JHpkXrrQ/
