BUILDING our own CUSTOM INTAKE for $50??

In this video, we show you how we made out intake for the Acura RSX using 3" plumbing pipe. Nobody on the market makes an intake for a k24 swapped RSX, and we didnt feel like spending a bunch of money on an intake to have to cut it up anyway. Enjoy the video!

According to plasticranger, some ABS plastics have a deflection point of 323°F. That's MORE than enough headroom for engine bay temps. Especially with a "cooling" effect had from the intake air rushing through the pipe.

My friends and I used to do this back in the 90s. We used to call it HDM intake, for Home Depot Management. Lol, Back then, you really couldn’t find a three inch diameter intake for your import. So we had to make them.

Redo it in 3.5in, you will get better low end and midrange while still maintaining top end. Unless you're limited to 3in due to rules, 3.5in to 3in works well too 👍

That’s pretty cool, compared buying the cool air intake aluminum pipe for $400+. Am sure that’s 100% works, only if you have the guts to do it.

do you know how many specific bends and straights you used for the plastic plumbing? like how many 90 bends and etc you bought

whats the melting point of that piping and what exactly is it? cause pvc tubing temp rating is only up to 140°F and most cars engine bays get up in the 190°F - 220°F... or does the cold air that it pulls in help cool the plastic?
@MilburnMotorsports
@MilburnMotorsports 3 года назад
We have been using it since this video came out in multiple races and track days in 90+ degree ambient in some of them, and it has worked flawlessly for our application. I am not sure what temp it would start to come apart at, but we haven't ran into that issue at any point thankfully. The headers are on the complete opposite side of the motor as well, which helps

What if it rains or snows?. Is it safe for the engine
@MilburnMotorsports
@MilburnMotorsports 2 года назад
As safe as any other pipe, just make sure you’re running a good clean filter and if you’re driving in the snow/rain check up on it. I wouldn’t recommend trying to drive through any massive puddles though, basically just me mindful of where your intake is positioned
@robertsaenz8331
@robertsaenz8331 2 года назад
@@MilburnMotorsports my plan was to do it like yours front of bumper or wheel area but I prefer front more air flow, but I was thinking about the hydro cover but idk snow is thicker and will block the front. I want the most safest

@MilburnMotorsports
@MilburnMotorsports 3 года назад
Every video made with this car after this point has this intake on it. We haven’t had a single issue at all with it, and have run in multiple 95+ degree ambient HPDE days and races with no error. We recently took the pipe off to inspect it with no damage, melting, or wear done to it. I would be happy to make another video showing the condition of the pipe in its current form if you would like to see! 👍

@@MilburnMotorsports I think everyone is trolling you. With all do respect. I don't think anyone commenting on your video know anything about cars. Let alone pvc pipe. The melting point of pvc is atleast 500⁰ of not more. And as thick as it is you get colder dense air= more horse power and ft lbs of tourqe. Using steel or aluminum pipe gets really hot. Then at that point you have a warm air intake. I understand fully why alot of people use pvc. And if they don't they wrap the cai in header wrap or heat tape. Great video. Especially for showing people you don't have to spend $200+ for a expensive cai when you can make your own. 👍🏾

7:27 cool restriction does that add power?
@MilburnMotorsports
@MilburnMotorsports 2 года назад
If you are referring to the connection piece inside the pipe as a restriction, it’s the same diameter as the rest of the pipe on the inside which is why you can see the exterior protrudes outwards. No power loss. Dyno proven in my dyno video
