Unfortunately they don’t allow me to swap to e46 ABS. I would love to change the ABS system since I feel it’s more of a safety issue than anything. I’m still trying to figure out a solution but I’ll figure something out!
Redo it in 3.5in, you will get better low end and midrange while still maintaining top end. Unless you're limited to 3in due to rules, 3.5in to 3in works well too 👍
Oil starved on the track due to not having enough oil in the car, and it locked up. I was away on a trip and let my brother and father use it and they overlooked it. It happens!
By far one of the better track guides for Sonoma. While I've driven Sonoma before, it's always helpful to get a good review with a great video track guide. Thanks for your work on it. I'm hitting Sonoma next month in my new (new to me) '99 mid-engine Boxster. Never driven a mid-engine before, and wondering if you have any suggestions on tracking at Sonoma in a mid-engine versus front engine car?
I am glad this video helps, thanks for your kind words! All of the principles explained in the video should apply to your vehicle as they do to most. What youre going to have to get used to more than anything is how the car responds to your inputs. Since its balanced so well, youre going to likely feel more rotation on deceleration in places like turn 4, turn 7, and turn 11 which can be beneficial. I would also try and stay balanced with your throttle in the high speed sections, turn 5, turn 8-8a, 9, and 10. If you find yourself lifting abruptly or holding your RPM's too high you could send the car into rotation at high speed, which isnt what you want. is 370z or c63 a better track car? I know this video shows 370z is faster but when I look up nurburging times the c63 is faster. I'm sure its harder to push the c63 amg because of its weight and size compared to the 370. I know they are not similar cars to compare but im currently debating between a 370z, c63 amg, e92 m3, or c6 corvette. Or anything similar maybe lexus isf even all depends what type of deal I can find.
Great video, very helpful, thanks. I would love to see your take on the Thunderhill 3 mile course in the rain/wet. What adjustments would you suggest on the course when wet. I've run it in the rain before, and had a lot of trouble coming out of turn 11 into 12.
I have not driven the 3 mile while it is raining yet unfortunately. What is probably causing your problem coming out of 11 and into 12 is the rubber down on the surface. Since it is low speed with a lot of steering, and then pouring in throttle out of the corner, there is a lot of rubber down in that section and a lot of load on your tires. The rubber on the track gets slippery when its wet, so if youre trying to turn or accelerate on it your tires will slip. This applies to other corners as well, but lower speed corners you'll notice it more
It was in the carousel, in my very first motorcycle track day, that I discovered to nearly my misfortune that normal shifting (1 down, 5 up) is a really bad idea.

Nice video and tutorial. I’ve been out of the game for a bit….but am coming back. T8 is important and the scariest…makes spec Miata taking it flat nice…also agreed 14-15 as 1 big turn is huge. If the rumbles upset your car make adjustments….I agree some cars skip and get weird in rumbles….but it can be fixed
Nice video man I think your student might need a slower car tho... and work his way up. I learned a lot in less capable cars first. but Thanks for posting this, coming up on my first track day at Thunder hill and my first time in a Porsche so this was informative. I know this is old but would love to connect with you next time your at Laguna, I live in the area and track there often.
