As we are getting closer and closer to sealing up our home, we are faced with new challenges in our home build. We are learning as we go, but that leaves room for a lot of mistakes. Facing whatever hurdles comes next isn’t so bad since we have each other to rely on.

OH, now you guys have gone and done it!!!!! You've got this place starting to look like a house! 😁I think the best part of this video was hearing you say that you were going to stop and take time to "admire" your work. That is the important part that so many overlook. To many times people get so focused on the "finish line" that they forget to enjoy the "journey". Thank you for the kind "shout out" and thank you for allowing us to follow along on your "journey".

Soffits are tricky and that looks really good. Vinyl soffits installed in a J-channel like that are standard building practice, but a lot of folks got significant water intrusion in their homes in Panama City during Hurricane Michael in 2018 because of them. Winds hit the side of the house and then go vertical and blow out the soffit, then water goes directly in the attic, soaks the insulation and the ceilings cave in. In many cases it allowed lift to rip off the roofs. Older homes like ours with framed plywood soffits with small vents didn't have that problem. Not trying to scare you but that's a weak point in a hurricane area like you live in.

Same thing happened to our neighbor during hurricame Sally. Major damage. Ours are plywood, as well. We didn't have any wind damage.

While vented soffits are used on the eves and solid on the gables, the additional f channel on the outside is not required. The fascia will hold them. I've seen both. Anyways great job.

Looks great. Nice and straight. Good job. Consider, instead of the 2 1/2" piece on the end, add the 2 1/2" length to the end J-Channel. Cut a miter in the bottom J section and fold the 2 1/2" section around to the back. It will close off the corner better and look amazing. It's all about keeping the weather out. Thanks for sharing.

After trying so many different products, any exposed caulk area will always go with construction sealant, the gray one. Last forever and zero problems with any kind of paint.

Looks good, guys. But sure hope that soffit is vented. That's your intake ventilation and your ridge venting or turbine vents will be your exhaust venting. Sure wish I was closer, I would love to come help. Before you install fascia, you have time to remove and replace some of the solid soffit with vented pieces. Let me know if you have any questions. In England we put that vented Bar on the back of the fascia then Plywood soffit goes into it the boxing is Fairly simple to make on the gable ends bottom of the barge board

Around my area we don’t use the F channel on the outside. We use the fascia metal to hold the soffit. But either way works. Love watching you guys build your home! It’s nice to see what others do or who they do it building a home

looking great. i wish i could have done that before we moved in but we was about to be homeless and now i am about ready to do this part to mine but i came down sick. it was the worst news a person every wants to hear. but in just the last couple weeks i got good news and they can fix whats wrong with me. so maybe in the next few months i can get back on my house.

@@CajunCountryLivin thanks i'm not better yet. but October they told me i was dying because my blood vessels in my brain was dying and there is no cure. so i more less went on a pity trip and didn't care anymore. then some doctor in NY said i can fix him. so they trying to set up a time and place where we can meet and fix me. i don't know if i may be going there or he coming here. but there is 6 known cases right here in Texas and going to try and get all of us together and he can do us all at the same time. i just hope they do something soon because this being so dizzy i have to hold onto the walls just to move from room to room is getting old. and thanks for your concerns .
