Instead of working top down, work from bottom up. Build one complete square frame for the doors and fix at your level line. Then make a infill piece from the top of the frame to the van roof. Good luck. Van looks awesome.

i was going to comment this exact way then seen this. this is the only way yo will get it square, from bottom up. van is looking great.

Hi, I am no cabinet maker, but i would have put your top horizontal baton to the ceiling then mounted the verticals to the top horizontal baton so that you had a number of dropped legs. You could have then marked the length of each dropped leg where the string crossed it. It would then have been a simple case of putting the bottom horizontal batons between the dropped legs or cut the legs short by the width of the horizontal baton and then mounted the bottom horizontal baton/s to the bottom of the dropped legs.

Looks good to me, just make the doors slightly oversize and square at the bottom to take you eye off the boxes.

If the cupboards look out of square with doors on, I'd use fabric fronts instead. More forgiving! Looking great though regardless!

Maybe try taking the front frame down and turn it around to see if it fits nicely to the back door part then copy that, failing that could you not fit the ceiling all the way to the edge so you have that to build from, will lose some height in the cupboards but will be a lot easier 👌

OMG, I can’t imagine tackling cabinetry or drawers. I’m very impressed that this episode didn’t have a whole bunch of Bleeps to cover up profanity. I just assumed that your dad would direct (and do) a lot of the cabinet work. You did great. So, well done!! CHEERS!

I worried too much about levelling when I first started then someone told me that if it looks straight then it is as the van is neer level so don't worry about it.

I work with wood and I think the cabinets look absolutely fine 👍 I see people having problems with their finished vans being over weight so I’d stick with the thin ply you have used. You could always use some quadrant bead underneath and make sure the bead is level. 👍

Watching you do this have me instant PTSD from my van 😂 it took me 6 attempts. Well done though mate done a really good job and I don’t think you’ll really notice. Definitely the hardest part of the van build for sure

I struggled massively to build mine. My old dad, bless him came out of retirement to help me. They are still leaning forward slightly, but I don't really care. Also, it was just great to be able to work with my pop as life seems to fly by......

🤔 I see your point and I'm thinking what would I do and what would my dad say... Okay, I'm going to try and explain what is in my head and hope you understand 😂 So I'm talking about the centre and righthand side. Make your doors for all the units so they are all the same size and correct for the centre unit (lefthand side will be shorter because of the roof). Which in my head means they are too deep on the righthand side cupboard. Then make a plinth for the bottom of all the cupboards, which is below the length of the cupboard doors (so when the doors are closed you see the plinth) and have this deeper on the righthand side... so when the doors are all closed it looks perfect. I hope you follow me 🤪... what would my dad say... "why did you not make them from scratch again" 😂 dad's 🙄😘

Absolutely hated doing the roof roof cupboards in ours as the roof being the most un-square part of the van just made it a bugger! It looks start when you panned the camera around. One of ours isn’t perfect but once you put the paint on it it will look perfect and no one will notice. No one has with mine yet 😂😊

You are doing way better than I ever could Mate. It’s looks fantastic. If you really are worried about the bottom line of the cabinet then why don’t you run a wave shape bottom plate along the length. Cut it out of ply and have a wave pattern. That should detract your eye from the difference between the cabinet and the foot of the bed

The thing that clucks me off about doing anything inside my van is that finding what is "level" is impossible unless the van is parked somewhere entirely level... Anything in a house or what not, I can try my hand at, but as soon as I cluck about in the van I start to lose my.....

I hope the heat lets up soon! One thing you could consider for your house is a splitter or "split-system air conditioner". It's not as good as central air, but my parents had to buy one a few years ago (they live in a generally colder area but have been hit by repeated heat waves in the summer) after it became intolerable. No one has Air Conditioning where they live either. The splitters cost around $3,000 USD but I'm guessing they will become more popular in the UK soon as the summers become longer.

Hi Shaun, great job, why not fit a base strip that will hide the height difference, in essence a scribed 3x1 full length, your doors could then go over the entire frame so it will hide the slight level difference. If you put a slight lip on it you could fit a strip LED light for coloured mood lighting. Great job though, certainly looks great. 👍👍

Hi Shaun could you not use a tapered packer between the top rail of the cabinet and the ceiling to achieve the level you require and maybe use much longer to fix through the top rail and packer into ,the ceiling

Looks great mate. Once they have the doors on they will look superb. Just a little hint, the angle brackets that you've fixed to the side walls aren't in their strongest position and can twist if too much weight is put in the cupboard. If you can mount them vertical so the actual bracket is taking the load. Top job 👍

It doesnt have to be perfect and a bit makeshift as long as it works and you can practically store things. The astetics is secondary. I like the more rustic look.

Personally it would bother me with cabinets so far out of alignment, especially if it's going to be starring at you every time you're in bed. One way is to make oversized doors to hide the massive gap. Perhaps reduce the gap with some illusional fake vines

I think you’re being too self critical about those lockers. Don’t lose sight of the simple fact that van bodies are not straight and full of right angles. You have to go with what you have got. I think you have done a great job with those lockers and you should be proud of yourself 😎
