One thing to remember is, with the bosch bi turbo range, you need an 8ah or 12 ah battery to get the full power out of it. I've got the 230v bosch track saw and used it with my own kitchen, with a 64 tooth good quality blade, and no chipping at all. I've also got the 18v bosch sds plus, 5.3 joules, use it with 8ah batteries, one of the most powerful you can get in 18v, all my tools are bosch, not one has let me down.

The rubber needs to be cut to fit each individual saw. So you would need to use a new rubber strip on the Makita track

One of the best features of the Bosch tracks is the way they fit together, quickly and dead straight every time. I have the corded saw cuts really well with similar depth adjustment Not as many after market products with Bosch tracks though

That definitely was a selling point for me when I was thinking about them, but there are pretty good aftermarket solutions to do that with makita/festool tracks. For example, The TSO-GRC-12's, which don't come standard but do exactly this. I was really not a festool fanboy when I started out, but I am just starting to realize that IF there is something wrong with their products SOMEONE will fix it. Maybe not festool (though they do adopt other company's technologies, like their sawstop purchase or their using the TSO rail square). But someone is going to figure that shit out, because the festool fanboys really do care about their tools. You might say "that's crazy, why would I pay 70 bucks for track connectors (lee valley price for the TSO GRC-12), but that is actually CHEAPER than the standard track connectors for bosch that I have seen for sale, which are like 80-90 bucks. I really want to like bosch, they make good routers.... but I just don't see the value proposition as being there for me. Sure, the stuff they have works, but they charge a LOT. Sure, I could buy their 6 inch sander, but it's the price of a festool, and I KNOW that works. I also have seen some not great reviews for specifically the bosch cordless track saw (The corded is much better, specifically the cordless).

@@timmietimmins3780 all the extras or additional parts are expensive it does not matter if they are dark blue and green or just blue (Festool or Bosch) they are expensive The conclusion I have come to over the years is no such thing as perfect. There are different things on different tools that are good and bad. My main win is stick to a platform when it comes to tools and you will save a fortune

My Makita tracks do not line up with each other. The rails are out of alignment so the saw will hit the junction not to mention the snuggers have to be adjusted for each rail I have. pretty pathetic manufacturing. I only have good luck using the saw with an individual rail. I need the long rail but it's impossible to find anywhere now

@@timmietimmins3780 Yeah I wanted to go Bosch because of a couple tools. I can't go all Bosch because the limited market in the US for their tools and "the little things" like you're mentioning. Before I decided not to buy all bosch I realized it's better to buy the best specialty tool for each application. Bosch will end up being most of my core but the battery slavery isn't a big issue with me, there is always one around for wat I need. LOVING my "Bosch babies" 12v impact, sawzall, driver and switchable head driver.

I was cutting angles pieces of plywood for a slope on a floor. First 2 are fine and absolutely nail the 3rd. I then cut the 4th to big twice even tho I marked where to cut. I basically drawn the shape of it and still cut it to big. Go back outside just confused with myself on how I did the same thing twice even though I basically drawn myself a picture.

Reminds me of the time one of my guys brings me a brand new bandsaw blade and tells me it must be made for a lefthand cutting bandsaw. I thought to myself what the hell, I've never heard of a lefthand bandsaw. I took the blade from him, looked at it and then turned it "inside out". The employee said something like "son of a bitch" and just walked back to the saw to install it. We all had a good laugh about that and I cemented my reputation as a genius. Honestly, I didn't know if it would work, I was just guessing.

Regardless of track saw, I would recommend the use of rigid foam insulation sheets as a support surface when cutting sheet goods. I have found it to be a better solution simply because there is essentially no resistance when the blade hits the material. It's a tougher job cutting through two layers of wood, and the foam sheets offer full support for the plywood sheet.

when you watch this clip you realise how much rust is surface rust. its amazing how many people fall for the whole get a new roof trick because they cant get up on their own roofs to have a look. We found a bloke who did a similar job to this clip on my Mum's place . Quality effort again SBC :)

Hey Scott, the GKT 18V-52 GC does have a scoring function, you need to put the depth adjusment on its lowest setting. You can check video on the bosch professional website. I also am a proud owner of the bosch GKT 18V-52 GC saw :)

It does, & you can also adjust the speed settings using Bosch's Toolbox phone app, if saw has the bluetooth module fitted.

I have the corded version and fit kitchens for a living. If you send the saw down the rail about 3mm prior to your full depth cut, no rip out. You can tilt the saw slightly back a degree in towards the rail but it’s a faff and no better than sending the saw in a few mm first. All in all though it’s a great bit of kit. When mine packs up I will definitely get the battery version as leads are a pain on anything other than a static tool.

Dave Stanton, on his You Tube channel, does a reverse 2mm scoring cut to stop melamine chipping. He starts at the top of the board and pulls the saw backwards towards himself. He then does a full depth cut in the normal direction. His cuts are perfect, but does use a Festool saw.

I have been using the corded Bosch track saw for years. The track is the best bit, two 1600 lengths is all you need most of the time, as they join so well, compact and accurate. Ended up buying the bigger Bi Turbo saw that runs on the rails as a cordless option, great for site use.

If I'm not mistaken you need the 5.5ah battery or above to operate that saw at it's full capacity. The Biturbo bosch products are 36v and when you plug for example the 8ah 18v battery into it, it configures it as a 36v 4ah battery. I don't believe the 4ah battery has that function so it runs the tool at 18v producing less power.

AIUI when you started using the Bosch saw on the Makita track you should have replaced the spliter guard rubber and retrimmed it for the new offset. ? Bit of a pain when you're moving between saws with different offsets.

Ah that strap idea is a good one! Early last year I had 120kg of plywood fall on my leg and scrape down my shin, nothing broken, but had blood pooling in my foot for 3 months, a bruise from my knee to my ankle and permanent nerve damage... fun times

Another great idea that hindsight tells me I should have done before we had flooding rains here in Brisbane! My workshop floor has had overland flow impact it and now the plywood sheets and other timber I had stored against one wall are ruined on the bottom edge. Not enough to cry about...but still, could have been avoided. Nice review on the saw too...out of my budget though as I'm only a weekend sawdust maker.

Hey Scott, just a heads up, if you want cheap malimine, in the same road as bunnings at the end of saxton road, go to the place called NZ panels group. They make malimine and you can buy 2nds there for $15 a sheet, usually only have a defect on one side.

You can get a plastic dust plug cover for the Bosch to cover the access hole for the blade retaining screw, greatly improves dust extraction.

Hi Scott, maybe someone already told you this, but if you buy a new makita guide and make the first cut with the Bosh, it will work perfectly. But once you use another machine with the guide, the rubber of the guide won't work well anymore with the bosch track saw.

A little over 12 months ago I bought the Makita corded after much deliberation. One thing I did like about the Bosch is that it can cut as close at 10mm to a wall. Great for correcting poorly installed laminate flooring. Ultimately, I'm cheap and the Makita ticked enough boxes. I also justified corded in that if I'm using a track saw, I'm using dust extraction, which for me is corded anyway.

I fought back and forth between buying the makita 36v and the bosch, bought bosch and haven't looked back. Brilliant saw! Love that its only 1 battery and comes in an l-boxx. Also have the bosch 7 1/4 saw with track guides and have used that for more depth of cut when needed. Awesome video! More bosch and makita!

if you want top dust extraction from a tracksaw, mafell is the company to go, they're also actually the ones that designed the bosch corded tracksaw (not sure about 18v). the main difference is that the whole side panel is enclosed, even where the access for the centre of the blade normally is. they have a great designed tool

Finally a Bosch review I have been waiting on you to review some Bosch tools as unlike the other RU-vid channels. I know yours won’t be biased. I’m stuck in the Bosch ecosystem as I already have all the other Bosch tools and don’t want to jump ship just for the tracksaw…… Now #boschNZ give Scott brown more tools to test if you think your products are good you will have nothing to be worried about

Use the edge without the rubber as a rule and score the melamine with a marking knife. Then, like someone else commented, flip the board over and cut it from the back side.

Hey Scott Use the score cut method but instead of pushing the first cut that cuts the top layer, start at the end of the cut and pull the saw towards you. After which you can continue by going full depth with a push cut. The pulling score cut technique helped me a lot of times (and still does) due to the fact that the nature of movement lets the base material support the cutting movement of the teeth and minimizing the debree rather than the teeth diving out of the material, causing it to chip. Works great for timber as well. Cheers from a northern German cabinet maker who takes great joy in watching your videos

Had the corded Bosch, footplate was off from day one, sent it back to have it “repaired”. Took about 2 months to repair and came back worse!! Sold it immediately after the local agent fixed it and changed everything over to Makita and Milwaukee and haven’t looked back.

Got the Bosch a couple months ago. I got the 8 Amp Hour Battery and the clamps for the tracks. Really enjoy it. I thinks it more than enough for even finish carpentry/ woodworking projects. I would recommend using this with at least the 8 AH battery in my opinion. they also have a 12AH that fits this saw. Love the channel. Thanks Scott!

Quick idea on retention for the sheets: Some type of L-shaped arm mounted to the wall just above the rack that can pivot down as a sort of latch and can be pinned in the up or down position. Would be quicker to use than the strap, but in the 3 minutes I spent thinking about this, I can't come up with a way to not have it sticking into the room when there are only a couple sheets. Oh maybe a slotted sliding mechanism. Could even have it spring loaded so that it's always at the minimum distance possible from the wall. Then just have a hard stop at full travel so that it works as intended. You could make it full length with pivots at each post or just the one in the middle and just be sure to have a full sheet on the outside. Just a thought.

Instead of a strap to hold the ply what about a vertically hinged arm that drops down the face of the boards. You could raise the (arm so that it is parallel to the ground) to access the sheets. You could even add a block to the end of the arm (to catch/hold the sheets) and lean them forward to access those at the back, if you wanted to do so. Love the channel and your work, keep it up man 🤙🏻👍🏻

I got one of the early GKT `s in Germany its war early avaliable. Bosch build the Saw to be highly compact to travel light to work sight. The Saw has a Score function , Just nurn the Depth adjustment on 0 and plunge in . You noticed that is plunges in some 3 mm just enough to score. To get a clean cut i highly recomend the right Blade its called Laminated Panel or high pressure laminated Panel . in order to get the Dustback to work you have to adjust the speed you push the Saw through the Material . you can say that the Saw cuts faster than its getting the dust out of the Saw into the Bag. Thats also a Reason you got chipping .please excause my English im from Germany and just enjoing your content. greeting From Germany

These tracks are so much easier to join together than the makita/festool etc tracks. I use a Mafell track saw which has the same tracks as the Bosch, in fact the machine is almost identical.

Blade choice is important too for laminate. Triple chip blade not alternative bevel. Scoring cut helps too.

On the Festool saws, they have an attachment that goes on at the front of the blade to prevent chipping on the off cut board.

Hey Scott greetings from Germany. I'm also a Owner of the GKT 52. Great Tool, when you need more Power from the saw you have to use a 5.5Ah or higher Batterie because they can output more Current and the Motor is built to use this Current as much as 100A. The next thing is the Blades I have the Blue/Red ones from Bosch / Freud with longer teeth and their go great on Laminatet wood.

In regards to the depth adjustment, if you cut 18mm all day like I do you never have to touch the depth adjustment on the makita because of the scribe cut feature that isn't on the Bosch or festool. I've actually swapped to Makita from Festool because in the battery version I find it cuts better and for longer.

Scott thanks for the review I'm a Bosch user only for Diy but I love the design elements of the tools. Great honest review. I find that when mates come over to help with some work they always pick up the Bosch instead of their own tools. I've been following you channel for ages I've built a portable workbench following your modifications and don't know how I managed to do work without it.

I like the ply holder. Sheetrock holder too! Thanks for the in depth analysis of the new tool! Great even comparison with details as to why you choose one over the other. Because I will buy my first track saw I will buy the Bosch. I do not have Makita tools tp share batteries with. Jess does a great intro!

I like the bosch but bought it into the Makita family. I have Bosch at work and Makita at home. But I am such a newbie but power tools are power tools :D

Best score method I've found it so set minimum depth and run the daw backwards, then cut full depth conventionaly.

Looking good! I would cut a hole on each end of the plywood rack and slide in a large bit of PVC drain pipe, then you can use it to hold square stock behind the sheets as well. :)

Not sure if we all caught it, but Scott initially stacked the plywood on the floor with the flattest sheets on top of the warped ones. When the new storage area was ready, Scott placed the warped sheets first, hoping to flatten them under the weight of the the flatter, more accessible sheets in front. Excellent example of working smart.

Debated on the Bosch corded track saw vs the Makita. I ultimately went Makita, scoring function, bevel lock and price were what sold me.

Have seen a few track saw users on RU-vid do a REVERSE (pull the saw toward you) scoring cut on melamine to avoid chipping the edge. Haven't had to cut any melamine for a while to try it for myself yet. Great info on adjusting the speed. Thanks.

I like the plywood storage rack. I think the floor anchors overkill. Great vid and review BTW....ok I missed the earth quakes. Anchors now make sense.

Nice rack Scott. Tough call on which saw to choose, like the Makita larger blade but love the Bosch features. I think I would use a track saw for plywood mostly so most likely the Bosch.

i own the bosch too - cause i have lots of tools from their 18v system and can use the tracks on the router also. If you just need a simple tracksaw and are not in the need of a wireless one, i can recommend the triton tools. currently quite affordable and good features for advanced users.

I think you should have made it a mobile plywood holder. Allows you to move it around if you need the garage space and move it to the van when you want to off load stock instead of carrying it inside.

Now on top of that, to take the upper part of the wall, maybe a rack for long thin lumber and a scrap bucket on the sides :) I have that but for steel.
