This is one of the biggest topics talked about on a lot of the 400ex pages. Cheap parts or wiesco cosmic builds . Can't wait to see how it turns out! Awesome

You don't need the decompression valve and spring to run the bike, it just helps the starter for cranking. They recommend removing it when you upgrade the cam to hotcams
@jsvallee567
@jsvallee567 Год назад
if you have the oem cam with the mecanism on it you need the pin and spring if not it never start ... rebuild mine few yars ago and forgot to put the pin and spring back and was not runing at all ... i put them back in and it start right up ! i guess if you delet the mecanism from the cam or go with hotcams you can run it without the pin and spring

Man I'd love to find a basket case like that to take home something I can afford and spend a little at a time and put it back together. Currently working on a 86 trx 200sx got it running and riding beautifully have more to do all the plastic has been destroyed and that stuff is high dollar still cheaper than a new one that you can't afford or a practically new used one . Hay but I'm enjoying what I am doing saving one from the scrap pile and now I have something to ride and enjoy for cheap the poor boy way like I said the plastic is going to be the biggest expense but I can put a little back at a time for it

I've had good luck so far with Marvel Mystery Oil when others like PB Blaster or WD40 couldn't get the job done. You should pick up a small bottle and give it a try yourself from Walmart or Amazon. I am wondering if you moved your chain tension bolts back in before cutting the chain because you did not show that nor mention it? If not, you should have so you have the ability to use that chain longer as it stretches out before having to replace it.

I know you ay not reply/see/aknowlwedge my comment (But if you do) from my experince those cheap cylinder/Piston kits on those 400ex's are notorious for the bottom of the Cylinder Breaking and Shattering. So just be aware if you ever hear a loud "valve Tapping" sound it's the bottom of the Cylinder most likley shatterd and is now banging around in the bottom end of the engine. I had it happen to me and worked on many bikes that it happened to as well.

@2vintage Hey man, I have an Issue with my 400ex I just cant figure out. It bogs at half to full throttle. I just had the carb cleaned, didn't solve it. Replaced the whole carb and dialed in the jetting. It worked for about 3 hours, then did the same exact bogging it was doing before. What would my next step be to trying to find the culprit? It would start up and idle fine, (until yesterday after it sat for a few weeks, now it wont idle very well, hicupping every 8 seconds or so before just dyeing.)
@keeganrenick9356
@keeganrenick9356 Год назад
Check the air/fuel screw mine would idle poorly and bog down but once I adjusted it back to stock settings it worked fine. I believe stock is 2 1/2 turns out. Also make sure you use ethanol free gas as that would help prevent clogging up the carb when it sits for a period evn if it is just a few weeks.
