In this video I build the Clockwork PI uConsole which comes in kit form. Mine has a Raspberry PI CM4 as it's CPU but it is available with alternate "cores". It also has 4G mobile as well as WiFi. My intention for this is a portable console as well as for playing Retro games whilst on the move.

The funny part is, if you follow any assembly video, or follow the official paper guide, you will forget one thing. Like I did. And like you did. The silicon power button cover! 😀It's not in the guide.

FYI, there are insertion tools for U.FL & MHF4 push/pull connectors to insert to and from the jack. they aren't that expensive and if you do this more than a few times its worth spending the money on it

In the end there was 2 spare screws, a blank expansion port cover (as I used the one with the headphone socket for the 4G module) and the semi-transparent power button, as you can use either that one which lights up or the black one that's originally attached to the keyboard & I used the black one.

what are the 4 joystick directional buttons for? can they move the selection on the menu?

It does sound like the second batch is now going out. I saw earlier in the forum someone's even got notification of one of the alternate processors being sent out.

Wow it looks great. And all it's made from aluminum ? To bad that there is no Ethernet port. What is working time on battery ?

I've not used it heavily yet so don't have a figure but the batteries have lasted a long time so far on the initial charge so it's around 5+ hours at least

I was luckily in the first batch. Going by the forum it seems that orders 192xx and earlier got in to that batch. They should be sending additional batches more frequently now.

Btw The black rubber piece you cut off from the keyboard - I think it’s an extra power button Looks like clockwork provides one clear one black Sizewise they’re the same plus the holes are in the same place Couldn’t figure it out myself lol

It reminds me that article i saw on the internet : Life and death in Apple’s forbidden city. Where Foxconn employee in white garments were assembling motherboards or phones in factory compound. I hope you're not some kind of prisonner forced to assemble products in North Korea.

Have you tried the dpad in games at all? It's the one reason I didn't buy this, the dpad doesn't look usable.

For a couple hundred dollars I'd definitely pick one up just to put together and play with it. Anything much more than that and I'd have to pass.

Eben Upton did confirm in January that the CM5 is being worked on but the last I heard was late 2024, no definite date though

Lots of smartphones will set you back a great deal more, and a lot of phones are subsidised by service providers to make them appear cheaper... but you still end up paying for it as part of your monthly contract etc. The same for major games consoles, where hardware is often sold at a loss. And unlike this, they're being produced in huge quantities, so they all benefit from economies of scale.
