Just re-watching this video as I've just done a kitchen fit and install myself, as always awesome detailed and informative video. Haven't seen any uploads from you for the past month. Hope all is well with yourself and family!
Awesome kitchen. I'm just hoping my wife doesn't see this or it's going to cost me dearly!! Starting to get to the really rewarding bits of the build now. Good luck with the rest and enjoy the moment!
I bought my kitchen from wickes about 3 years a go white a gloss finish and ladder was a solution for storing food finish it with LEDs strips light very please your kitchen looks top off the range I hope you and your family will enjoy it.
What an Great video and an amazing kitchen, I love how it's designed and the look of it. Are you not loosing a bit of space in the corner next to where the dishwasher will go? None the less it's an amazing build and love the auto lights in the larder I might get some myself now, where did you get yours and is there a controller switch that turns off the led strips and light at the same time when the door is closed?
They made an awesome job of those worktops there mate, the continuation of the 'grain' on the mitred end that returns down to the floor looks phenomenal. That's one of the best installs I've seen to date! All in all you have built yourself an extension to be proud of with a wicked kitchen. How good does it feel to have done the bulk of the building work yourself? When you can stand back and look at something you have built with thought own hands you can see how a career in construction can be incredibly rewarding! 👍😀
Cheers dude, really appreciate the support. Yeah it's hugely satisfying, and I'm really impressed/delighted with the outcome of the kitchen, and that counter especially...!
Just done a similar install but used DIY Kitchens. Ours was £3500, could have been more if we had gone for solid doors, but painted MDF ok this time. We had solid wood doors from them in the previous install we did.
I'd go for thicker than that if you can afford it tbh or at least make sure that there are no undulations across the top of thought units at all or it is liable to crack. 👍😀
Lol it's actually the wrong one! There's meant to be a door, and then a panel next to it which pulls out a sliding spice rack! I still need to change it, 3 weeks later!
I desperately need to revamp my "workshop" down in the garden. It's currently a glorified shed, so my tools get really rusty, and it's freezing. That'll be a fun project!
do the plastic legs on your Wickes kitchen support granite/quartz worktops? the reason I ask is i got my kitchen from Ikea and they told me due to the weight do to not use plastic supports legs and to use metal support legs? it looks amazing.
Cheers mate, and great question - when we bought the kitchen I ran that exact question past the consultant who did the design, and he said it would be fine - we have a large number of units/feet to bear the load, so I feel quite comfortable with that aspect...certainly I haven't heard of that issue before requiring metal legs.
That looks like a monstrous upstand. Painted/ plastered walls have a maximum load of 24kg per m2. I would be very wary of that upstand potentially separating from the wall. I only say this as I think you have kids wouldn't want it falling on them. Shouldn't it have some sort of resin fixing system? Anchored to the block brick behind?
That's cool mate, thanks for the comment - I had the exact same concern. The wall isn't really bearing any of the weight, the cabinets below are taking that load. The upstand is stuck on using no nonsense adhesive to stop it falling forward, rather than to carry it...
Great question! It was actually a recommendation from one of my subscribers...when I called and spoke with Manish, he immediately understood what I was looking for, just based off my description of what I liked and disliked, and sent out samples really quickly. He gave me a very high degree of confidence in his ability to deliver what I was after, and boy did he come through with the goods!
The managing director of franke used to live around the corner from me, I died new fascias and gutters on his house, he was a nice fella. 👍😀 They do make quality stuff.
If you don’t mind me asking what has been the total cost excluding the kitchen of the extension? I’d be happy to give you my email address if you don’t want to publish on here. Cheers pal. It looks bloody awesome !!!
Cheers mate, don't mind at all - I reckon it's cost me around £90K so far. Including the kitchen: £12K for the boiler & heating system. £6k for foundations. £4K for bricking up to DPM, £15K on glazing. £25k on timber+cladding+steels+insulation, £5k labour & fitters etc, £5k plastering, £2k Underfloor heating. £1k Electrics. £1.5K Karndean flooring. £2k appliances. £2k on fire doors & garage door. 5K kitchen (Wickes), £3.5k quartz counter. £1k painting and decorating. Bear in mind we haven't finished yet, still got around £20k to spend to get it finished, and I haven't costed my own labour in this, I'm working for free!
@@OfficeBoyBuilder wow from the sheer amount of work you’ve put in yourself I’m gobsmacked. I’ve watched every video as I want to do something similar. I knew the heating system was gonna be expensive as it looked pukka going in.. but wow. I’m guessing a lot of the foundations and bricking was labour costs then ? Looks amazing though mate! I just thought you’d have saved more given the amount you’ve done ! Also what’s going on with the apex above the doors ? I seem to recall you talked about your engineer looking at windows now ? Is that still the case given the gorgeous workshops now fitted ? Cheers again for the quick reply the channels growing too !!!
Yeah it's not cheap, but I had 3 quotes for £180K from builders, so we've not done too badly...! A lot of the foundation cost was on labour (probably 60-75%) and I would spend that money again, rather than having a go myself ( although I do love the idea of playing with a digger!). Everyone has signed off the windows, we're just waiting on planning now, and I need to pull an extra £3k out my ar*e to pay for them...!
@@OfficeBoyBuilder yeah fair play, that saving makes it worth while. Trades are charging extortionate fees ! Well I hope I can build the shell Of ours for around 30k, I’ll have to do everything myself and then some to get it near that ! Keep it up pal.
All the best with it mate! If you're able to do all the bits yourself, then you should definitely be able to get a good way there. Glass is expensive, and we wanted a lot of it, so that was hard to avoid 😂
