Video of the drawers: coming soon!
My dad and I bought a metal working lathe. It weighs about 180kg and needed a good stand that could handle the weight and the vibration from the machine. The one we could have bought was about 400€ more...and made from sheet metal. No option for me, so I built this cabinet stand instead. Solid beech hardwood, birch plywood panels, and everything joined with mortise and tenon joints. There's no metal fastener in the basic structure. The cabinet itself now also weighs about 100kg, but that's good for the application.
This stand could also be used as a regular workbench with lots of storage. I think I build another one someday for my workshop.
Would you be interested in plans? Let me know.
Now the lathe is a Optimum brand. We haven't used it very much yet, so keep that in mind if you ask questions about it. I can't give a review on it and I also don't want to as this is not what my channel is about. And because I know it's a hot topic and I don't want to answer the same question over and over again. The lathe was about 3200€ (without tools or accessories)
Interested in a Pantorouter:
How it works and where to get one: www.hybridpanto...
For the US: hybridpantorout...
also because it has been asked very often, the link to the diamond saw blade I used (it's expensive): de.feldershop.c...
Enjoy the video!

That bench will last for ever. Also, impressed by your glue up and resaw to make four components out of seven pieces.

Hi Marius - thank you for your enjoyable videos. May I suggest... i) fitting a 25mm high watertight tray under the lathe - the full size of the top of the bench. ii) add a Formica covered, vertical backboard behind the lathe. The work in the chuck will be splashing coolant/cutting lubricant onto your wall. iii) the top of the backboard to have a shelf so that you can place "in use" tools, clipboard with sketches, micrometers etc. conveniently out from the mess that collects on the tray under the lathe during use. iv) fit two adjustable lamps underneath the shelf to throw light exactly where you need when are working. v) bring your electrics down from the top and place your switches on the l.h. side of the shelf - so that when things misbehave you are automatically pulled out of line of the chuck. (don't ask!) cheers edi

Metal turning often works better with flood coolant. Consider building in a catchment tray under the lathe to recover and recycle coolant. Many premade lathe beds build this in, including a pump and tank solution.

Man... Crazy lol. I'm a pro woodworker. There is such a style difference in shop equipment between production shops and the high quality hobbyist or content creator. Its nice to see someone who can really make their shop the showroom instead of selling the show pieces and them living in someone else's house like most of my work. I can see theres a time and place for both methods of craftsmanship and shop setup. If it were my shop I would have probably made a 2x4 stand and spent maybe 3 hours max on it just to get something functional and allow me to get back to work lol. But its a great practice to be able to do what you did here on your own furniture and shop. It qualifies you to do some high quality builds for others if you ever want to.
