Love you guys so much. Hate to hear about the layoff. I had something similar happen a little over 3 years ago. The company I worked for as the CFO was purchased and my job was eliminated. Thankfully a company about 45 minutes away had a CFO who was retiring so it worked out and I’m in a better position now than I was originally. There’s something bigger and better out there for you Elisa. 👍

Elisa, I'm so sorry about your layoff! Sending good vibes your way that you’ll find something else thats better. I was laid off from my job that I was hoping to stay at forever during Covid. It was a design and manufacturing firm for store fixtures. My division did quick service restaurants, office spaces, and banks. I loved what I did and they were super flexible when I needed time to care for our son. When covid hit, the orders ceased, so they laid off 1/2 our division. I was blessed to find another job in the same industry. They were also very understanding of my situation with our son and were very accommodating. I was there for almost 3 years until I had no more childcare for him at all. I left my job in May to care for our son full-time. Money wise its challenging, but in the end, it was the right thing to do.

I definitely like the idea of the series and this video but I personally would find it more enjoyable if it were more.. raw? Less performance based I would say. The whole dramatization of some lines makes it feel like it's part of a cheesy documentary but maybe that's what you were going for!

Great job on finding those rare gems. And I think I should mention this now: collect what you want from the gaming stuff now while you can. Because as the newer gen consoles and systems migrate towards "all digital", the physical media is going to grow more and more valuable. People's appreciation for being able to physically own something you buy and hold it in your hand is going to sky rocket, and the collector's market for physical media will also follow suite and sky rocket as a result. Monetary values for stuff like OG NES games are going to start shooting up in the next couple of years, mark my words. That's when it'll get very hard for gamers to collect the stuff they could've had now. My own collection will never reach the amount of cool stuff you guys have, but it's mine. It doesn't help that I'm more selective about the games and accessories I want to have. I'm proud of what I've built up over the years. I just wish I could've appreciated the value of taking care of my stuff when I was a child and keeping boxes and books intact. Alas.

I love this idea as a series, and I'm looking forward to watching as y'all complete it, as I do with any content you put out. Also, Elisa, I am so sorry to hear about your job. I hope you have already found a company that treats you right, or are close to doing so. It's terrible how corporate America treats us like numbers and not people. My place of employment had a surprise round of layoffs in February, with no warning, and I lost 3 teammates and our manager. There are rumors of another round starting soon, so I'm worried about being cut this time, but I'm hopeful that things will be positive regardless of the outcome.

Love it. Been going after nes pretty hard lately myself. Picked up contra and super c both for 25 bucks at a yard sale recently. Deals. So much of the nes library is relatively cheap. A lot of the best games are in that 5-20 range. Even your punch out, castlevania 3 stuff, maybe 40-50ish. Still not bad.

Unfortunately physical games will be damaged by time ( corrosion and water damage and time itself ) parts will fail without any notice then Rip that game The best collection is a digital collection without thinking twice Mod the console and use a big storage and done Also it can be 100% free if you know what i mean (Emulators are kings)

I also got laid off my job. It's been a bit depressing selling off most of my collection to pay rent. Unless you're finding a generous yard sale owner, collecting retro games is not cheap. I told my wife, I will never sell the nes though. I'd rather live under a bridge than sell my nes. I think she understood how much that one meant to me.

yeah operation wolf was broken out of the box on the Amiga port. They didn't slow the game down for the Amiga's faster processor so it plays stupid fast.

NES Jackal $10! If you have a CRT you can’t go wrong with Mario Bros/Duck Hunt Combo Cartridge. No matter the age of the visiting players to the game room we always have fun with that one! Hope you have good luck finding a new employment opportunity!

Top games under $20: (IMO) Gun Smoke, Little League Baseball, Dr Mario, Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, Ice Hockey, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Excitebike, Tecmo Bowl/Tecmo Super Bowl, Dragon Warrior, Life Force. Cool idea for collecting and videos. You could probably get some 3D printed inserts to put in the shelving to hold your cartridges neatly. And they probably wouldn't cost much. I chain printed a bunch of them for my loose Atari 2600 cartridges a while back. Might work out a trade with somebody that has a printer locally if you don't have one. I'd look up some of the Donkey Kong games. In fact there are a lot of decent, fun to play, arcade ports on the NES. And the last I looked most of them can be found around the $20 or less mark.

Like you mentioned. You might not have the stores. But you can still get good games by being a little more creative. My favourite original Nintendo game is the original Mario bros. I have played through it many times on virtual console releases as I don’t have an actual NES

Great new series i had a nes for a very short period before it got sold . I mostly grew up on the atari st and then to snes (which was sold quickly to 😢) i had my st and amiga for longest same with my game gear which i had later after snes . I don't really collect nes i prefer the famicom to collect . I had no problem with operation wolf on st 😂

How do you guys feel about disc and cartridge rot; do you just not care? I can understand wanting to fulfill childhood collecting dreams and using the collection process to make content, but the reality is these cartridges have a life expectancy of 75 years. Just curious since I currently have a sizeable collection as well.

Lol it's so funny how we all grew up doing it and now we know, as adults, it's really bad to blow in the carts. I still like doing it even though we know it's bad, the act itself is nostalgic 😀
