Great stuff... Nice to see someone else taking on a flexible neck and the cable control is next level, well done

Thanks. It's a lot more work vs. a solid neck, but I think the extra range of motion it gives especially when combined with the head pan/tilt will help to make it look a lot more realistic.

Ive been following your videos for years. I am glad to see you are now using 3D printing to make the inside of the moulds!!! it must save you a ton of time.
@AndysMachines
@AndysMachines 3 года назад
Yes, I never really got into 3D printing for actually making finished things, but used this way as an intermediate step it works really well and allows me to create certain objects, such as this, that would take much longer by any other method. And now that I have a 3D printer I find myself using it for prototyping things too (which I think is what they were originally invented for?)

@AndysMachines
@AndysMachines 2 года назад
@@user-fu1ry9jg7c It was normal PET. I use the natural/clear for investment casting as some of the pigments in the coloured filament can leave residue behind.

...Although I don't cast metals myself yet, I might offer you this...For the more intricate parts, you should set them at an angle so one point sits lower than the rest and you pour directly into that low point...Also you could place a vent or two when you place your pour spout; you'll know you've filled it proper when molten metal comes out the vents! I just love your work and want to help your further success at what you do! I've just today found your videos...but I'm giving the thumbs up, subscribing and hitting the bell, good sir! Keep up the amazing artwork!!! Love, honor and respect to you!

This is looking incredible. I was wary of the 2mm aluminium thickness until the rest came together. The articulation on this project is looking great.. definitely looking forward to the arm/hand part now.. so many pistons! Balancing on scale sized feet might be a pain though..

Thanks. Yes, I was trying to keep the weight down but still keep the strength. I could have gone thinner in some places but I think I got it about right overall.

Did you design the machined parts by yourself or did you use plans from other builders?
@AndysMachines
@AndysMachines 3 года назад
I designed all the parts myself (I even modelled the outer shell from scratch). Though this type of mechanism is well known in robotics circles, it's called a 'continuum robot' and is often used for small lightweight robot manipulators.

If you are building a working t800, you might consider coming up with skynet, it sounds like a great idea, just imagine the peaceful resolutions we could achieve... And then the Skynet would come up with t1000, sparing us the trouble of concocting the technology behind it... Damn, all the marvels of peaceful coexistence with machines...
