Good show. Love all the comments which are all fellow hobbyists. I am very pleased with all the videos, reference photos online, aftermarket companies & the subjects put out by these wonderful model companies. I just wish the costs were not so expensive. I wonder about the thumbs down viewers. What are they expecting? These video reviews are really fun to watch.

Nice build. good looking kit. just for reference... the color you wanted when painting that was actually called Intermediate Blue (blue-gray) and sometimes called navy blue. Its The same color as sides of 3 tone painted WW2 navy planes, the over all color of early WW2 navy planes and over all color of USS Arizona.

Thanks Andy I really like the subject. Last summer while recovering from a bad accident and a broken back I took up model building after a 40 year hiatus. The first thing I built was Revell's LCM with jeep and trailer. It was great fun and the first of many builds some of them inspired by yours. Thanks for putting them out there. PS. I built the Big Bertha you sold me and it is an awesome model....It would make a good build video, hint, hint.

It's amazing how cheaply these things were manufactured. I'm really surprised more soldiers didn't get killed. It took some real guts to do what these guys did.

I just completed this kit and utilized your paint ratio...I think you nailed it! This was my first "ship" of any type to build. Your tips in the video were right on the money and helpful. I since have started on the Italeri 1/35 LCI "Higgins" boat.

Looking pretty good there Andy. Only two things I would have done differently: 1 - instead of using the decals for the diamonds and the "US113", I would have made stencils & painted them with hairspray under it ; 2 - I would have used gun metal for the scratches. 😉 Man! Almost every one of your videos makes me add another kit to my build list. I really do enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

Great build, and glad to see an airbrush used instead of an artist brush makes for a better, more realistic paint job. However a lot of things should have been painted individually (usually while still attached to the sprues), just prior to assembly, as painting afterward is almost if not impossible to do after assembly for individual parts without messing up the whole paint job, and overall effect. Thanks for sharing.

One of my favourite model subjects of all-time ever since Airfix brought out their 1/72 example way back in 1966. You need to remember most LCMs were only used once, going into Normandy. As they were brand new, weathering would have been minimal.

Weathering varies
@davidcole333
@davidcole333 2 года назад
I just completed this kit and I went minimal on the weathering. Where I concentrated the most was on the deck where the vehicles would have loaded and unloaded. I muddied and oiled that area up quite a bit, then used light rusting on the rest of the boat. I also added a wash to the life preservers to dirty them up a bit.
@flewster

Not true. My Granddad was a Coxwain driving LCMs into the beach. Not only were they reused making several trips to the beach and back each day they were then repaired and used for the next invasion. His ship, The USS Achernar AKA53 landed troops at Normandy, Southern France, and Okinawa where on the opening night they were hit by a kamikaze. I have several of his old photographs of him next to his LCM when it was stowed on the deck. They were pretty beaten up at that time with evidence of several battles. So, no, they were not used just once.

That reminds me of a (must have been Revell) 1/72 D-Day diorama kit with Sherman, 2 guys in a rubber raft, the I-beam obstacles, and lots of soldiers. I think it was called 'Omaha Beach' - I know there was one called 'the Merville Battery' with Germans, that I never managed to find. This was back in the late 60s or very early 70s. Back in my model-building heyday. :-)

Andy, I know you don't use primer but I have to protest your not using it with the PE and brass barrels. The paint is sure to scrap off at some point. If only it where made from steel or aluminum then scratches would look like chipping. Great build, as per usual, cheers

Mr. Andy; You're always educating me about things so I figured I'd reciprocate and edju-micate you a bit, since you do so many armored vehicles and not boats, or ships. The drivers position is called the wheelhouse, which in this case was lightly armored. The driver is called the Coxswain, pronounced Cox-in. He is actually, when underway, the Captain of the boat, and incharge of all personnel and equipment onboard, even ossifers, oops... I meant officers, LOL. Nice looking boat looks very life like.

as a teen, I built hundreds of models. ($5.00 each at the time) buy prices sure have changed. I would love to get back into model building (I'm now 52) sadly I'm also a disabled Veteran (army) with 18 years service, and living on Army Disability Pay (aka dirt poor), which means it's less than affordable to buy everything again. (I do have a good airbrush compressor, and a crappy airbrush lol) but to buy all the paint needed and other painting supplies on top of the cost of the models makes it just too expensive. (if I could work, it would be different) I also live in the Country, and there is not a good hobby shop within a 4 hours drive (one way). it's really too bad. I really enjoyed building them in the 1980's. and these days, living with severe chronic pain, anytime you can occupy your mind for several hours or more, is time your no longer thinking about pain. (more effective than pain meds).

HI Andy, wonderful video as usual, interesting model. I was having trouble with bonding some stowage that I painted onto the floor of a Hanomag. I was using Tamiya Cement, and I've heard that it won't bond properly if there's paint on the contact point. What can I use to bond painted parts? Or should I just glue it all down and paint it together? Thanks.

Correct. I served as an engineman in the early ‘70s on LCVP’s, Mike 6’s, Mike 8’s as well as LCPL’s and motor whaleboats. All painted haze grey. All of the landing craft on our ship (some permanent, some assigned to the ship for specific deployments) were WWII vintage landing craft. As I recall, the decks were painted a darker grey or even black. Not sure....it’s been a long time. 😉
@GrahamWalters

Andy need to correct you a little, LCM's were not used on D Day, well not in the way that you describe, the LCM's dropped off what tanks that were landed on day 1 some way off shore, these were called Hobarts funnies, and looked nothing like the Sherman you built, in fact the US lost most of theirs ( and the crews) because they failed to allow for the rip tides around the beaches, most of the armour came ashore via the mulberry harbours on D Day +1 and 2. The tanks would have got bogged down on the beaches in the shingle and the sand, lessons learned from the failed raid on Dieppe.

im buying one for this exact purpose, its really not hard to do... and costs next to nothing. all it needs, receiver, ESC, motor, motor mount, propshaft, prop, servo, custom rudder, steering links and maybe a counter weight. And for working door, modified 1/10 crawler winch and PS, those motorised model kits are generally the same price and the normal ones and maybe a fraction more in some cases.
