I'm looking forward to his Paul. I've watched Ben and Nora from MidWest Model Shop build a couple of battleships and the level of detail is outrageous. It does seem like the fancy , wooden decks are pretty much essential but they ain't cheap. What about running-off a few on the new GlowForge? 😁 Cheers for now, Dougie.

it should split down the hull so the red is moulded sepperate if like most trumpeter ships so you don't have to cut to make a waterline model

@arrow1414
@arrow1414 3 года назад
With kits this complicated you HAVE to build sub assemblies then put them together (which is actually how ships today are erected). So each subassembly are kits in and of themselves.

The sailors are "manning the rails" and yes ships entering port and I think leaving the port do that. Ask any navy vet friends you have about this. Oh I thought of the alternative: Just before the attack there was the morning flag raising ceremony on the fantail of the ship. If you find figures with musical instruments in their hands I would bet the figures are depicting that.

the miniature photo etch is the difference between the every day modeller and the prize winning modeller .... the prize winning modeller will still think it lacks in detail .. i have seen 1/700th scale biplanes on trumpeter ships that the modeller had fully rigged with all the wing rigging

you have to be very carefull building ships paul , particularly battleships , not well up on the arizona , but it depends on what time period you model it depends what fitting out she had and when tose alterations were done which can also run into colour schemes ...
@pauly7218
@pauly7218 3 года назад
Somewhere I heard that. I am using a think a color scheme that was closer to the one form December 7th, but I'm really not sure. You seem pretty knowledgeable on ships. Do you/have you built one? Were you a Swabo?

@@pauly7218 my father was on a british dreadnaught battleship in ww2 ( HMS Queen Elizabeth ) our modern carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth follows in that naming tradition and is named after queen Elizabeth the 1st as protocol would demand it to be called HMS Elizabeth II .to be named after our present queen ..... built a few and have a few in my stash paul .... a good thing would to be check dates she was re fitted .. shouldn't be too hard as you'd need her final re fit . check what colours she was in too as i think you mentioned a dark blue and some ww2 US ships used a dark blue for deck colour ,,, it is tricky but research should be your number one priority to give you how she was in her final days which is where i'm guessing you want to be .... but believe me take your time and don't forget not to rush just to get a video out ,, i for one would rather watch 30 videos of you doing the kit justice rather than 5 videos and feeling you could have done better as that kit is what you americans refer to as a doosey of a kit and second to none

@@pimpmydiecastsdiecastandto3176 My father served on HMS Illustrious during WWII. I have an original 8 X 10 black and white photo he had from the war and saved all those years. He never talked about the war, and I still remember my mother with tears rolling down her face in the 1970s finding a box with medals, which I still have and an officer's log book and some photos of his ship mates, and other photos after the war when he was in the British army which he transferred to thinking there was no chance of another war starting after the hell of that one. Then he was shipped to the Suez during that nonsense and was involved in battle according to my uncle Phil, one of six brothers who all served, some also in the Royal Navy and some in the army who served under Monty in Africa and Europe. They all survived, some left the service alcoholics, thankfully not dad. The greatest generation. Take care. Jack ~'()'~

@@pimpmydiecastsdiecastandto3176 Mum found out Dad was also a boxing champion in the Royal Navy. Dad loved hard physical labour. I remember when I was maybe 6 years old we were at the cottage and my father walked to the far end of the field on the property which was an awesome 1870's schoolhouse in the country on a secluded dirt road and the schoolhouse stood partially in a beautiful forest and partially on an old farmer's field. We had 30 acres and I walked over to see what he was up to and he was digging a large rectangular hole with a spade. I left and went back hours later and he was over his head in this hole and I asked what he was doing, and he told me he was digging a swimming pool! LOL! Dad was always joking around. In a few days the hole was filled in and I never asked him about it again, but I know now he dug that huge hole which was probably ten by fifteen and maybe seven feet deep, for exercise! He walked to work in Toronto where I was born every day. It was about five miles each way. We had a car,he just didn't want to drive, all year round he walked. He could whip my brother and I in a race no problem at all! I'll tell ya that really sucked when we were running from an ass whipping, because we knew he was gonna catch us, and fast! The neighbors laughed their asses off many a time watching me come flying out the side door, racing across the front lawn and leaping over the hedges, tehm boom, the side door would burst open as Dad booted it and came flying after me and he was on me in seconds!! LOL! I really hated my buddie's Dads sitting on their lawn chairs tipping back some beers laughing their asses off at me getting dragged home for an ass whipping! LOL! Dad had a bodybuilder's physique, but never lifted weights! It was all from hard physical labour! When mom found the box with his medals, officer's log book, photos etc and these boxing medallions and silver plated trophies which were maybe 4 or 5 inches high with his name and championship details, Dad was not amused! He threw all that stuff in the garbage and Mum managed to save some of it, but the trophies and medallions disappeared. He obviously managed to find out where she hid them and they no doubt went in the garbage. I'm so glad I got some of his medals and all the photos. I let the town war museum display a lot of the photos, they've had them going on two years now. He was walking ten miles every day in his early 70's but had to cut it in half when mum's health started going downhill. Our father's were from the Greatest Generation brother. They don't make them like that anymore! Take care! Jack ~'()'~ Canada
