What a wonderful ending to a great series of videos on your build. Congratulations on such a beautiful boat--you did an excellent job. Our condolences on your numerous losses along the way...
Thank you so much for your kind words! Thank you for providing fantastic products, and thank you for helping me to realize my dream! My only hope is that someone finds something useful in this video series and above all give them the confidence to try it, and hopefully join the Glen-L family of builders.
Im new to your Channel,RU-vid marathon from morning to evening. first episode to build episode 52 on one sitting 😁 Sir you are Amazing, the quality, art, beauty, details of your project. Shes a very gorgeous beautiful boat..head turner..thank you for your videos its a inspiration and hope I can build something as wonderful as your creation..thank you
I haven't watched the earlier videos, but Liked this one as soon as he turned the lights on and said "I cannot believe that this is mine", I felt that, amazing.
Dude! You genuinely own the bragging rights for this, after all you've gone thru yet managed to literally got this made? Priceless? and fucking worth it! Sincerely love your work man. That Zip is fucking gorgeous!
Life can be an incredible project, the boat is fantastic but your way of handling life is your greatest acomplishment. Thanks for the ride all these years.
Thanks man for the last 4 years, through trials & tribulations; blood, sweat & tears; ups & downs; and the good & bad! It's amazing what life throws at us while we are trying to accomplish something. You did an amazing job with your build! Take the summer off and enjoy your Ziip, before moving on to the next project! Taking the time to " smell the roses" and reap the rewards, is a good thing. We'll all be there for the next Big thing. Cheers!
Yeah, I wish I had videos of when I was five years old and my dad was building a runabout quite similar to this back in the late 50's. You've got a good head on your shoulders.
Hey if in the future a big ol' okie wants to give you a big old bear hug. It might just be me glad to meet an old friend. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family for strength and comfort. And i know you've heard this a hundred times, but being we's good friends, and since you brought up the legacy aspect. My father 47 massive fatal heart attack, me not any smarter, 15 years later life saving bypass surgery. Woke me up. My prayer is for a long prosperous life for you and your family. Thanks for the ride along. Blue
This isnt just beautyfull its absolute great gorgous fantastic looking. Doing something with love and effort makes the difference to standart . Youre an inspiration to me so i plan to build my own . Not zip but an classic like this. I fell in love with the riva aquarama and i will looking forward to realize it by my own .
I want to build my own boat and from time to time watching youtube for similar DIY projects. Today at the gas station I accidentally found your videos on Zip building. This completely ruined my day. I did nothing but had watching and pressing the "next" button. More and more, until this last video. Man, you are a great person. I understand that Zip was your damnation and salvation at the same time. Now having in mind 3 years to build one, still want to do it. Thank you for beautiful boat, honesty and sincerity.
I know this is years later but I just finished your Zip video build. Thank you for doing all the detail build videos, for someone who supposedly not a wood worker you did a great job. I enjoyed them and helped me decided on building one myself. One thing I was wondering is what the family thinks, that was a lot of time and hard work. Hope you and your family has many years of enjoyment with your toy.
Friggin awesome dude. Don't ever stop making and building things, you are a true maker and true genuine good man. Here is handclasp across the miles to you my friend
I have watched some of your videos. I can certainly see why you get excited when you come into your garage. You did a great job! I am excited for you too.
Thank you Josh for a beautiful journey, probably the best how to video out there showing step by step in building the zip. Can't wait to see you again on your next project. Your filming editing and narrative was first class. One thing, I smoked for 40 years and now have COPD, you'll never get those projects done if you don't QUIT. Take care .
Thank you Josh, it was a quite a journey, i was a professional furniture maker over almost 20yrs and i admire to your determination, to your progres of skills growing in time, and i most enjoyed in your thrill with gloss 😀. And, ofcours i get desire to make my own boat. So thank you again, it was awesome. Best wishes to you and ur family from Belgrade, Serbia, Europe.
Joshua, I am a life long boater, former live aboard and now I just finished my first boat build and I am looking forward to the next. You have been an inspiration to me But what I really want you to know is that I find your personal story about perseverance so inspiring I have a played a portion of this video in a team meeting at my company. I am own a real estate company. Being a Realtor is a very hard job. Our associates are 100% commission based and the number one reason for failure is giving up too soon. I grateful that you have given a non-real estate success story about perseverance.
Man. The shit youve been through just over the last few years would be enough to destroy anyone. You are a strong man. Your children see it and will be better people by your example. This was a great project im happy i found your channel. Thanks for all your hard work
Man, I have been watching your channel and I am throughly impressed. Thank you for including us all in your boat building ventures. It was amazing watching this series. I found myself excited for the next video. The one question I have is, have you been approached by anyone to buy this work of art? If not I'm shocked! Thanks again Joe
The finished Glen-L Zip product is absolutely beautiful!! You can, and should!, be very proud of your efforts and the outstanding result. Very few mensch realize their dreams to the fullest. You realized your dream to build your own wooden boat. A lifetime accomplishment to be sure! Congratulations!! I stumbled into your Glen-L Zip Build vlog at episode #44 where you were planking the bow deck. I will back up to episode #1 and watch the entire series as I too dream of building a Glen-L Zip! I trust your Zip Build experience can teach me much about the process along the way. I hope that my Glen-L Zip build project proves to be half as impressive as yours! Enjoy smooth waters. Cheers!
Wow the final chapter and final thoughts! I knew it would happen and I knew I would see it. Just that now what do I look forward to? I was one of the guys that found you in the middle and then caught up. I liked your honest effort. Your honest ethic and the fact you did not sell me up the river with junk. (here is my zip buy a t-shirt type of thing) Watching somebody now bringing a Lambro back to life and all he seems to do is want to sell his stupid t-shirts. Anyway. great effort and great reward! The fact you did this with all that life happening around you I tip my hat to you sir. As for the quality of your build prove it to yourself and enter the boat and trailer in a craft fair or a boat show. I have seen other zips on line. Yours is by far the benchmark in which to judge the others as that's what I have been catching myself doing! So in closing. Thank you Mr. Burke! Thank you for your education. Thank you for showing us it can be done. Thank you for showing us how it should be done! You do splendid work! If you should need to sell your masterpiece, I will drive from Arizona to pick it up!. It would be an honor to be the caretaker of such a fine piece of art!
Dude, I just binge watched your entire build. WOW! That is awesome work. I appreciated the narration of what you were doing and exactly how much it cost and time spent. I have been wanting to build my own GlenL but was not sure about the plywood but after seeing how you built yours and then the shots on the lake just took my apprehensions away. Thank you so much for making this series! Again it was awesome.
"I can't believe I built this". Your words summed up the feelings I had whenever I looked at mine. You did a fabulous job and I wish I had access to these videos when I built mine, I would do several things differently. Enjoy using it as much as you did building it. I know you will never get tired of those "what year is that" questions. I will miss your first of the month postings. Smooth sailing,Todd
I loved watching your videos, I learned quite a bit. You spent the time explaining your process and the results. You should be extremely proud of your creation.
I watched all the episodes all day I can barely see the eyes have built a beautiful boat I wish you the best and I am waiting for the next project with a straw cover of good luck
Congratulations on a job well done. I have been coming and going on this project for the last 2 years. I’m both inspired and terrified. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.
thanks for sharing your struggles with us and show how you manage to get through. I build a wooden strip Kayak about 12 years ago and struggled financialy and went through a divorce during the build. every time I was stepping in my shop it was a good mind reset and kept me sane. Congrats again on your build... Cheers
Incredibly beautiful boat !!!!! A lot of work has been done! I live on the shore of the Gulf of Finland in St. Petersburg, but I have not seen a more beautiful boat! I really liked it!
Bravo to you for a job well done and cudos for taking the no short cuts approach! I dont think a pro shop anywhere could have done a better job! It looks great!
Hello, Josh. First sorry about my english. I like your ZIP projekt - simply it's amaizing... 52+ videos aboat bulding one boat...nice and precise comentary ...wow. I want to build some boat (sailboat) so this videos will be for sure be my guide. I so just about 5 of 52 videos and will continue watching all. Thanks again - simply great job. Petr from Czech republic.
Been along for the journey from the start. You have done a magnificent job Josh, and you should be very proud. You inspired me to build my 16ft Banshee. Kudos to you sir!!!
fantastic, he encouraged me, i will try to build this wooden boat, it will be difficult to stay with the same quality. congratulations for the excellent work.
I have delayed starting my build for a year while I moved to a beautiful lake front home here Vermont. I just ordered my plans for the Glen L flying saucer and I will try to build it following your example & if I can build it half as good as you built yours then I'll be doing something. I am so impressed with your abilities & hands on approach & for explaining things !! I will rewatch all your video's while I am waiting for my plans. Thank you so much Josh, you are amazing
hey joshua. big cheers from australia. i really loved this series. i love the genuine human aspect and the detail and lengths you go to. no one else ever in the history of you tube has gone to as much effort to present every little detail like you've done. your determination and the results are amazing and beautiful. congratulations mate. I'm very proud of you.
Hi Josh, Well done you should be very proud the boat is beautiful.. I have almost finished my first boat and my next one will be the smaller verson of your zip. The squirt from glen-L and your vids will be a really big help during the build process. Thanks very much for documenting your build. :)
Great video, really enjoyed the stories of people stopping to chat about the boat. Thanks for sharing your struggles, really shows any one can do something epic no matter whats going on in their lives.
Hi from Russia, Very nice project and as result beautyful boat. I will review that movies from start to end in near future, because I have idea to build something like "zip" :)
I started watching your build from about a year in and knew then that the end result would be good, but just how awesome it did turn out is a testerment to you patience, perceverence & attention to detail, well done. Looking forward to what ever your next project is.
I`ve built tons of stuff in my 55 years. My Zip though is probly my greatest accomplishment or at least the one that has given me the most long term satisfaction. I look at it often and am still amazed that I was able to follow the project through and build something quite exquisite in form and fuction. I would like to build a plane next. The Fisher Avenger. Just have to make room in the Garage, find the time to do it and come up with the 30 grand. I wont be starting the build for a few years yet but it will definately happen. In the mean time I will continue building models, sculpture and working on my cars and motorcycles...Great job on your Zip Josh. Loved the series
Sorry to hear about all of your recent losses. Sadly, I can relate and commiserate. Excellent work. I've found that working on personal projects is good therapy. I've got other projects that I'm going to prioritize over building a boat, but hope to get that to the top of the list at _some_ point.
Josh, Very nice job on the boat! You have been very inspirational as I have been contemplating building a Glen-l boat myself only to keep questioning my abilities. I plan to start in the next two months. Thank you for sharing!
I’m planning to open up a small wood shop in my garden shed. I have a few tools already and right now I’m preparing the shed to start with producing. I’ve started many projects in my life but the majority I never finished. I’m very aware about it and learned my lessons so I will start with doing small projects. A few days ago I wondered how it would be to build my own boat. So I googled: ‘diy wood boat build’ and it brought me to your channel. I didn’t want to see the end result immediately because I was especially curious about the technical aspect. So I started watching your first video… since then every spare moment I had I benched your videos until this point… Man, I lived through every moment. I’ve felt your questions, your doubts, your drive and your victories. I had a laugh and wiped a few tears now and then. You did an amazing job. The boat has turned out gorgeous and I really hope you still feel the joy. Maybe someday I build one my self but for now you inspired me to keep going on with my wood shop and finish my ‘pond project’ I’ve started 3 years ago. I hope you’re doing well and of course you should keep the boat forever. It is just… I have no words for it. WOW!
Thank you for the compliments and good luck with your small wood shop, I still have the zip, it's still every bit as beautiful as the day I finished it, It is still my proudest accomplishment of my life and I will never sell it you sell it, It will be left for my children when I'm gone or too old to use it anymore.
I love your boat I watch all of your video of building the boat this inspired me I want to build a zip it the best looking homemade boat I ever saw my mom's uncle build a fishing boat and working on a 2 boat a bigger one to go on the big lake and take to the ocean but I think I like your the best. Good job
Josh, Thank You so much for your Zip build videos - an amazing project. I started watching about a year ago when I began my own build, (first for me) a 13' classic-runabout, popular in the late 50's on Hood Canal, WA.; 'SandeAce'. I can't tell you how much I have learned from watching your progress. I re-watch many of your videos to review, just before I begin the next step. More importantly, I am inspired by your obsession with excellent workmanship. I have gained new skills. I have more confidence, and I am doing better quality work. Thanks Again.
Thank you for the kind words! The positive comments, feedback and thanks i have received from this build series have made making these videos more than worth the effort, one of my main goals was to inspire others to have confidence in themselves and above all else "TRY" it truly is amazing the abilities one learns they posses and skills learned and honed when they try, experienced or not, congratulations on your build, you will never forget the process or experience such pride as you will when building your own boat.
The video that got me started was watching you laminate additional chine material to create a 'fair-curve' at the bow. I had tried re-steaming 3-times before watching your solution. Life Saver.... Good luck on you HD build.
Josh, Thanks again for a great series! Two questions, 1. Did you consider building a Barrelback? If so, why did you decide against it, vs the Zip? 2. Please elaborate on your decision not to glass your hull. What were the plus and minus factors you considered?
To answer your first question I did not consider anything other than the zip only because of garage restrictions size-wise, the zip can easily fit in my garage parked straight in and I planned on keeping it in the garage that is why I decided to not go with anything longer even a malahini would have been a tight fit and I probably would have had to shove it in diagonally so the zip was my only choice and the one that I wanted anyhow, I do plan on building a barrel back in the future but that is substantially farther away in the future towards retirement time. For your second question I didn't want to Glass the hull because I had an extreme fear of doing a terrible job that I wouldn't be able to repair and still keep the sides Bright wood oh, I really really wanted that Brightwood side finish and had I messed up on the fiberglass it would have in my opinion ruin the entire look I was going for, glen.l does recommend fiberglassing but not for strength and a lot of people will argue about that but the only reason to fiberglass is for additional waterproofing and most important abrasion resistance, so I am extremely careful when I load and unload my zip from the trailer and I never ever Beach it. I don't know if not fiberglassing was a mistake or not but I am still happy that I did not, I am however the exception not the rule I would say 98% of all glen.l Builders fiberglass, just got back from a lake trip a few minutes ago, still going strong, hope this helped, Josh
Nice job! I've been dreaming of building a boat like this for years. I don't have the time currently so I'm reluctant to start but it's on my bucket list. I think I'll wait until my five year old son is a little older and we can do it together
A great end to a series! Thank you very much for your help! If you ever want to put a new motor on your boat Tohatsu makes 40s and 50s in both 4 and 3 stroke in 15 inch shafts. I highly considered going with them if I were to build for a short shaft but ended up going for a long shaft transom design.
I just subscribed. I'm deployed here in Bahrain and headed home soon your video has inspired me I have been looking to build but have not done any woodworking and the zip has always been a dream of mine. Thanks for the inspiration!!
I absolutely love your boat design and it looks amazing ... the only thing I don't like is all the stuff on the front deck I know the light and tie offs are needed but it took away from the great job of the rounded top I guess I just loved the smooth rounded clean look ... still amazing work
Luv the boat as far as the transom height jack plates are common on bass and race boats to raise the transom height it’s not that expensive or ugly and would allow you to use a larger engine so you don’t have to run rpms so high great great boat
What I would have done differently is to have you build this masterpiece for ME instead of you. Hahaha. But seriously, you should be so proud, and you should consider giving it to me.
