You amaze me every month, Josh. I agree with your decision not to screw down any of your deck planking. I think you'll get a cleaner look. Fandamntastic progress!
Joshua, I have just completed my Build the Zip marathon. Very enjoyable and very informative. You have given me motivation to pull my wooden boat plans out and get started as soon as I get back home to Oregon. I've been working in Alaska for 7 years. Hope to get back home full time next year.
100% Screwless deck will be stunning buddy, can't wait to see bare wood finished deck sanded ready for epoxy and then the difference after varnish. Awesome work !
Thanks Josh. I am building a Glen-L 14 sailboat and I also wanted a screw less deck. You gave me great ideas on how to do this. Unfortunately I planned the edge of my sub-deck so there is no clamping lip. Also I plan on planking with 1/8" plywood with a walnut king plank. Looking forward to next months video.

Hi Joshua, I found your build vids over Labor Day weekend and I watched all 42 episodes! You’re doing such an amazing job! I live in Salem and the smoke over here was really bad as well. We even got ash on our cars. I’m in model boat club in Portland but I’ve always wanted to build a 1:1 scale and your videos inspired me to take the plunge. Now I just have to decide between the zip, or a small sailboat. Thanks for sharing all of your hard work and keep it up! I’m looking forward to the next video already :)
Joel Piatt salem huh, you about three and a half hours north of me, i used to stop in salem fairly regularly a few years ago, haven't been there for a while, one piece of advice, build the boat you want first, don't start with a "test" build, this may be the only boat you ever build, might as well build the one you really want first. crosscut hardwoods in eugene has a good selection of marine ply (that's where i bought mine) as well as mahogany and other hard woods. thanks for watching, if you like when i finish this thing you'll have to take a ride in it.
I’d love to see your boat! I am pretty sure I’m going to build a zip, I think my family will get more use out of it than a sailboat. Thanks for the tip on crosscut hardwoods, I will definitely check them out.
doing a great detailed orented job!..The finnished craft will be fantastic! Don't be surprised if a few people come up and ask you to build them a boat!
Ken J thank you ken, i have a feeling my boat building days are numbered, alot of builders say the best part of building your own boat is more about the build and less about using it when it's done but i really want to get on to the using it stage, who knows maybe this once in a lifetime build will become habit forming, we will see.
Ken J , I know if I were a lottery winner I would want to hire Josh at a crazy salary. I have ideas of a jet drive Malahini. Alas, I'm too broke to even build the smallest Glenn L... Sprint? Josh has done a fantastic job. I've been watching him from the beginning, and look forward to the first of each month. I don't know what I will get excited about watching once he finishes his boat... This has be one fantastic ride. Full of useful information, and just plain entertaining. Maybe 5 or 6 videos left.
I juast realised, part of what is wrong in my life is I never do anything that requires me owning a helmet. Screws in thin plywood will buckle the surface as it expands and contracts.
You forgot the hour/cost update in this video...unless I spaced out during that part. Great job! I'm glad the smoky air has cleared up around here, everything was covered with ash at my house from the Eagle Creek fire.
