Building up a new hardtail mountain bike... again!

Berm Peak Express

In this video, we totally rebuild my hardtail, and then ride the whale tail for the first time without rear suspension. Overall, this build was quite rushed due to our need to continue filming for the other channel, but if you decide to build your own bike I recommend taking your time! A lot can go wrong on a mountain bike, and your safety depends on it.

*Maintenance Hack: Make cable nipples out of solder* 2 cables for price of one! Tested myself. 1)Drill a hole the diameter and depth of a typical cable nipple in a hardwood block. 2)Drill a slot half the depth of hole 1 and ensure that the slot feeds into the side of hole 1. This is for a cable to sit in. 3)Fill hole 1 with molten solder and plunge the cable through the slot and into the solder. After it has set remove from the mold and clean up edges. You now have a new nipple on your cable. This is great when you buy a new cable that is super long, don't chuck the excess, make a new nipple for it and now you have 2 cables for the price of one!! WEAR SAFETY GLASSES :)

I've tried to solder SS cable ends before instead of using crimp-on ends and had poor luck with it. Normal lead/tin solder doesn't stick to it. Quick research says silver solder works, but that stuff is expensive for a cost saving measure on a cheap part. Did you test with galvanized or stainless cable?

Couple of top tips... 1. You can put the bottom bracket tool in the bench vice and the whole frame works like a lever. Its stays on the tool much easier, and is great for stuck bottom brackets. Takes the hassle out of it. 2. When doing anything that involves hitting the fork steerer tube, don't put the fork on the ground as it can damage them. Just hold the fork in the air by the steerer tube or under the crown and hit it, it will still work. Love the heatshrink on the cabling, never thought to do that myself. I put heatshrink on the ends of my road bike bar tape though. Really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.

Great video, I like how you show getting the hex key stuck, that's something I would do. How in the world does a nice bike like that get shipped with such a cheap bottom bracket? You can get a modern ixf crankset on amazon for $50 but they went with a cartridge?

Yesterday I was learning how to do a wheelie (like this is the 8th day of me trying) and somehow i ended to trying to bunnyhop across a curb.. and then it happend, my derailleur just completely ripped off the frame. I can't make anything about it because i have a super cheap hardtail from a a shop named decathlon (here in Europe it is something like Walmart but only for sport things). Just wanted so say that i learnt how the Caboom works😅

@@HorsemanUnknown Yeah, i like decathlon too you can buy great things there. But my bike was like 180€ (don't know how much $) so you must think about it like it isn't built for jumping and stuff. I know it was my fault😅 but it served me well.

Found a 2017 diamondback hook at an estate sale for 50$ and took it to my bike shop to make sure everything was safe and upgraded the front fork.. new seat, new pedals. Next upgrade will be hydrologic brakes.

What’s the point of threading the fork if you’ve got the stem as well? Doesn’t the stem tighten the headset already?
@BermPeakExpress
@BermPeakExpress 4 года назад
Yes and no. The stem can only work without threading if you get the little adapter for the bottom, and they were out of stock. Instead of waiting, I did it the old fashioned way!
@tavojuarez1987
@tavojuarez1987 4 года назад
The threaded cap compress the steam, headset, head tube and fork all together, without it, the stem wouldn't be enough
