I'd love to see a video or maybe a short series that goes in depth explaining what exactly various electronic components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, etc) actually *do* in the context of a pedal or amplifier and how it affects the sound we hear. Plenty of resources out there will tell you a capacitor stores charge, for example, and plenty more will tell you they can be used to make high or low pass filters. But it took me a shockingly long time to find anything that actually bothered explain *how* they can function as filters and *why* they're placed where they are in a circuit. I've been breadboarding trying to make some simple effects, and that kind of content would be super useful!

I have the P800 and the string tree on that model isn’t an issue. The guitar is awesome and plays great. My favorite part is being able to plug my headphones right into the input, with my Bluetooth pedal and app and come up with tons of song ideas with the drum’s synced to the looper, while my wife is sleeping in the next room. I have no regrets about buying the guitar except the color. I got the red one because it was $50 cheaper and included the pedal and the little amp. But the red one turned out to not be red. But at some angles it’s like a pinkish orange color, and at every other angle it’s dark pink! Everyone who has seen it says it’s pink, as they laugh at me for playing a pink guitar. But I have a solution coming soon. It will soon be the American flag. As I’m covering it with a skin! But other than that I have no complaints about the guitar! It’s become my favorite. And I have some expensive guitars! Selling my Godin if anyone’s interested? lol! Great review! Thank you!

Was supposed to buy this guitar just this morning but the local dealer said that the warehouse pulls them out when demand is low. But I already gave my name and number so that they could contact me once the guitar is available. Then, I searched for GTRS reviews again since it will be the closest thing to having one right now and this video was the only one who mentioned the string tree problem. I'm happy that I've watched this Video so that I could buy a string tree replacement and hopefully, I could get the same one or the closest one to what you're using. Funtwo's work around was with the bridge. He replaced it with a fix bridge instead of using the floating bridge. Since I play with a trem bar sometimes, I'll go with the String Tree replacement. Thank you!

Just a suggestion but it is always great to replace the string trees. The reason I say this is it is cheaper than having a professional bone nut installed (always a win, always worth the cost) and also to see if the tuners work fine. I have had a few guitars where tuning issues disappeared with a roller string tree or a Tusq replacement. It may also allow you to delay any headstock mods if tuners and the nut works so you can put that time, money, and effort in other parts of the guitar. Think about it, one part may fundamentally change how you mod that guitar depending if you spend money at the headstock vs pickups or electronics. Not sure about you but there is always a tipping point where once X amount of money has been spent, I don't want to put more money into that guitar vs getting another guitar or piece of gear. 🤔

Love the idea, hate proprietary garbage. I like how you can change out pots, pickups, selector switches on guitars. Ideally a smart guitar could have the entirety of it's brains swapped out too or transplanted into another guitar with an appropriately sized cavity. I'm curious to know where all this thing is tapping the signal from, I'm guessing it's only at the very end of the chain which would make it behave exactly exactly like the Boss Pocket GT or the Fender Mustang Micro.
@Wozrop

No other effects unit is drop in like you describe, I don't see how this is any more proprietary than a standalone effects processor except for the built-in aspect, which is kinda the point of the product.

Colin, this made me think of a question you might be able to answer. Why aren't noise gates built into guitar amps? It seems like a pretty easy add on that would be very useful. Thanks.
@ScienceofLoud
@ScienceofLoud 2 года назад
While some amplifiers certainly do contain noise gates, gates are a situational device and their effectiveness is dictated entirely by where the noise floor is being generated, where you sense it, and where the gating happens. Unfortunately having the gate in the amp limits its overall flexibility as it may not be positioned to deal effectively with noise generated before the amp.

The app is simply a control surface, the processor is inside the guitar. The app isn't technically required to access the sounds. Also, even if the app stops being supported, it doesn't stop existing on whatever device you have it on. Keep your ipad and you'll always have access.
@Runoratsu
@Runoratsu 2 года назад
@@ScienceofLoud The last part isn‘t really true, unless you dedicate that iPad to that function alone-as the device‘s operating system changes over time, apps that won‘t be updated won‘t run anymore. I have had several such apps, some from products that are worthless now. Simply never updating the device isn‘t a solution either, not only are you missing out in new features then, but also, and much more importantly, on security fixes. But that‘s the price you pay if you want modern tech. And if it really stops working, just put traditional electronics into it and it will still work nicely as a standard guitar. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This does seem appealling to less-experienced guitarists, especially with the new-ish wave of strat inspired guitars with roasted maple necks and fretbaords etc... However, is this really the convenience solution for players? This requires you to buy a new guitar entirely. Something like the fender Mustang micro, or even better, the nux mighty plug 2 do essentially the same thing, but as a small plug instead, saving money. The nux mighty-plug 2 can be had for under £60 and also had the corresponding app.

@ScienceofLoud 2 года назад
If you want to utilise the effects live then you certainly can. I was using the inbuilt FX in power amp mode, sending to my power amp and speaker arrangements. Then the cab can be mic'd as normal. Mixer mode should leave the cab IRs active if you want to send directly to Front Of House, then monitor your sound via the wedges. Alternatively, as GTRS have said above, you could turn it all off and go with your usual amp and effects.

So can new string trees help tuning stability on cheaper strats? Or was this one only able to help because the original was so low?
@curtis4812
@curtis4812 2 года назад
Like he was saying, it's all about binding. The strings move ever so slightly under the string trees and over the nut and bridge. If the string gets stuck somewhere it can cause it to bind which may lead to string breakage. The quick and dirty method is to take a mechanical pencil and write/color in on the bridge and nut slots. In my experience, with budget guitars it's usually the nut that's just a hot mess. Grabby plastic, not cut properly, too high. Pencil graphite will help, but a decent nut made out of bone or TUSQ or whatnot helps the most. The string tree in this video was wayyyyy to low however. String tress are also fairly cheap but are only really worth swapping if yours are causing binding.

@@ScienceofLoud Thanks for the response. However, I looked inside the pedal to see if anything was loose, but I found nothing was loose or dangling around. @ScienceofLoud
@ScienceofLoud 2 года назад
@@jakepuestow4700 A broken connection may not be visually apparent, solder joints can fail with strain while looking fine. There is also the possibility the potentiometer itself is dead.
