BULGARIA is a country in Southeast Europe, on the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. It is best known for its beautiful Black Sea coast, the high mountains, the ancient history full of mysteries, its rose oil, its wine, its delicious food, and its hospitable people.
Rhodope Mountains is one of the largest mountain ranges in the Balkans. It is an endless maze of ridges and valleys, located mostly in Bulgaria, and a part of Greece. It is covered by wild deep forests and hides a unique local culture, history, and mysteries.
One of the most beautiful valleys in the Rhodopes is the valley of Chepelarska River, leading against its current from the Upper Thracian Plain to the highest ridges of the mountain ranges around the border with Greece.
In this video we reach the source area of the Chepelarska River and its valley, one of the main watersheds of the Rhodope Mountains. First, we visit another picturesque village- Progled. Then, we go to one of the most famous places in Bulgaria- Rozhen Meadows, known for the annual festivals of the Rhodopean folklore, and the highest Bulgarian flag pillar.
From there, we go to one of the largest winter resorts in Bulgaria- Pamporovo. Its main landmark is Mount Snezhanka, famous for its 156 m tall TV tower. Finally, we visit Orfey Rocks, from where we can enjoy panoramic views of the neighboring Cherna River Valley and the city of Smolyan
