Also, wow, that lemon tart looks delicious! I love how diligently he was sprinkling on the powder! It’s nice to see a kiddo having pride in their work! 🖤
So proud of you. I was a city girl and watching you I see on what I missed out on growing, canning, freezing my own. If there was ever a year that taught me to be self sufficient it was 2020. What I want you to know is your children are learning how the earth works and and that all plants have a purpose, and your children will be adults that can take care of themselves under any conditions. What a joy to see a woman who understands the cycle of life and how to make the most of the harvest.
This method of bulk buying and preserving must save so much money, plastic and food waste. I'm totally inspired by you and in awe of your organisation! Thanks for sharing Xx
Wow! If David ever needs a vacation out of state, he’d be welcome here in Vicksburg, MS. We love lemon bars. He is such a great baker. Always picture perfect. I can’t even bake a decent loaf of bread. 🥰🥰
While both my daughters learned how to cook and bake, it was my son - like your David - that had a true love for baking and experimenting in the kitchen.
Thank you for the video! I love to see your family and to see your kids work together!💛 They are learning so much about life , resilience ,strong work ethic,so important today. I imagine what great memories they will taking with them for life! God bless!
What a blessing your family is. As I am stuck at home and inside a lot due to health issues, it’s a treat to watch your family as they grow and learn and share ! God bless
So glad I found this helpful channel. I tried finding Sam Putts Citrus Farm in Bakersfield, CA but cannot find it online. Can someone paste a link? This is a gamechanger if I decide to move out of CA and can no longer grow citrus. I want to price everything and be able to contact the farm. Thank you.
David is quite the baker! Not only does he like baking but he takes alot of pride in his finished product. It sure looked good! IT is nice to see children pitching in to get a big result together! Thanks for sharing your wonderful family!
Have you ever tried making preserved lemons in salt? So yummy for cooking, the skins become tender and edible and you can put them in any dish you would normally use lemon juice, like roasted veggies. Highly recommend :)
Another beautiful video! So, that tart looked AMAZING 😋🍋💛 Pretty sure that's going on my menu this weekend, as I've got some lemons to use up! Blessings from our homestead to yours!!💙
I have heard of freezing lemon juice in ice cube trays and then when frozen, putting them in gallon freezer bags. I haven’t tried it yet but thought it a good idea. I had no idea you could freeze mason jars. I’m learning a lot this year. I would love a video on how you can grapefruit. I am impressed with your family and the kids behavior. David is an impressive young man.
My husband freezes our lemon juice in our ice trays and then put in freezer bags. We have a couple lemon trees. He then uses the cubes to make fresh lemonade all summer long. He does the same thing for the extra oranges from our orange tree. I mix the orange and lemon together for my drink. Love the mixture.
I never thought to use glass jars in the freezer, I'm going to give that a try. You have such great ideas and you're doing such great stuff for your family. I am learning so much from your videos, thank you for sharing. Oh hey we need the lemon bar recipe if you get time to share it with us.
I’ve never lived there but was born in Bakersfield just as my parents were moving to a different town. I grew up near there in the mountain town of Lake Isabella. It is beautiful driving through there with the miles and miles of citrus groves in a bare desert area.
We live in the Bay Area CA. Our back fence neighbor has a front yard grapefruit tree and it mostly falls to the ground and rots. I wish I could send it all to you.
Cool! Never thought of doing a bulk citrus order even though we do many other orders like that. A fun thing I did last year was make elderberry juice and use the elderberries again to flavor elderberry lemonade. Alycia Bayer has some great books on foraging and feeding a family through ways like this.
I so very much enjoy your videos I always get new ideas.. I love that vintage looking green juicer what a great idea they came up with on that design. Anna In Ohio
You can also use the lemon juice like a hot tea with honey it’s also said to be good for colds and sore throats just add water lemon juice to a cup warm up and enjoy 😊
In Ohio he could sell at farmers markets and other markets under the cottage cooking. He could sell cookies breads cakes and pies. Your daughter could also sell her sewing items.
Good job David, that tart looks so so good! Maybe a stupid question, so sorry for that but did you say you order a bushel of lemons? I never heard of that...may I ask how many pounds that is? I am from Belgium and we do not use that measurement if I can say it like that 😉! Thank you so much for all your video’s I am enjoy them all and love your family ❤️😘🇧🇪
How do you find a Sam Putts drop? I know it’ll be almost a year but I’d love to try. I live in NE Indiana and in a heavy amish\mennonite\baptist area so I assume I’d have one somewhere. Thanks for the ideas!
Have you ever tried putting the lemon juice in ice cube trays and then once frozen putting them in ziplock bags? We just reuse the ziplock bags numerous times and it saved freezer space. Just curious if there was a specific reason to use mason jars for your family?
@@threerivershomestead I just started watching your channel. You have the sweetest spirit! I homeschooled all the way through high school. We lived overseas (missionaries). It was such a privilege to be with my kids so much. I am praying for you as walk through your loss. And as you do house church. May God continue to grant you wisdom as you walk that path with your eldest and his allergies! ❤️
I just recently learned that you can use the peels, seeds, pulp dehydrated for pectin. Not sure exactly how this all works though. But f anyone knows please let me know
Do you freeze your goods in any kind of canning jar....or if it the ones that is for freezing or canning.....or does it matter...? Its just a waste using freezer bags...and makes sense to just use some jars...thanks
I know this is an old video, but just curious how much one of those boxes of lemons costs? If you said it in the video, I apologize, but I have a needy two year old 😂
The one where you put the jars into the freezer. there were other jars in there, that would take up too much space in the freezer of a typical kitchen fridge. it looked like maybe a 4 door stainless steel freezer. l would use glass so much more, l don’t like plastic, but don’t have room in my normal fridge freezer.
I have a video of a freezer tour. We have three deep freezers and two fridge freezers. Our electric costs aren't high because we don't use a lot otherwise. We have no furnace or central air. We don't use an electric dryer. Etc.
@@threerivershomestead I did an experiment and stopped using air/heat from our AC for a month. Instead we used wood heat and/or opened windows. But it saved us about $100 for the month. I also experimented not using the clothes dryer for a month and hung clothes out on the line (or around the house) and it saved an additional $100/month! I’m addicted now!! How low can I get it…I wonder?! An electrician told me recently that the biggest energy-users are the appliances that use heat (stoves, water heaters, AC/heat pump, microwave, etc.) The electrician told me my 3 extra freezers don’t use that much energy. Thank you for planting the seed in me to save on our electric!!! God Bless you and your sweet family!
