I work in social housing and when tenants move out or die anything that's left behind is dumped , furniture, crockery , kids toys everything. It's such a wasteful society
While it may look wasteful I can attest from volunteering at a opportunity (charity) shop that a lot of cheaper modern stuff is made to last for one use only. Also the resale even for “good stuff” like high end branded or beautiful ceramics, glass, plated silver..... outside of Etsy is woeful! So even if you try there is a lot of waste.
all that paper, glass, plastic tossed in with wood, metal and random other stuff hits me in the feels. I separate stuff and we have Tuesdays and Fridays for plastic, paper and metal waste, Wednesday for wet kitchen waste and Mondays, Wednesday and Saturday for non-recyclable stuff and trucks come to collect them separately
In Germany this kind of bulk waste can be put outside the home on a special bulk waste collection day. In less than 12 hours , 75% of the stuff shown on this video is either picked up by people re-using it or selling it at a yard sale.
It's about the same here, A few years ago it was for free in the city where i live near, The most people placed the bulk waste on the curb on the evening before pickup and all the scrappers came out to take all the scrap and e-waste, But now you have to pay like 35 euro for 1 m3 waste, Nobody uses the service anymore.
@@pistolcrossbow Yes, it is always sad to destroy all the things other people would be happy to use again. When I clear out apartments I often list all furniture for free, so people can come and pick it up.
@@matthiaskoch4272 Indeed, This stuff on the video was not worth too much, It was from a flea market (and it was not a very expensive flea market so everebody could buy something) and the things that where left where Mostly old books, Plates, Cups and maybe small furniture that kind of stuff. I saw it before it went in the garbage truck and i can tell you it was mostly crap that nobody probarly ever will buy.
@@matthiaskoch4272 Excellent idea. In the UK, there are not-for-profit organisations who will take away furniture and domestic appliance which are no longer required and sell it on to those setting up their first home or who are on low incomes. The money raised keeps the vans on the road. Other not-for-profit organisations will take clothes, books, CDs, DVDs, etc. no longer wanted and sell them to raise money for hospices, etc..
Why are kids being allowed anywhere near the hopper of this truck while the packer is in operation? In the US that would be considered a serious safety hazard in which the operators could find themselves in big trouble for....especially if someone got hurt. Little kids don't understand just how dangerous this equipment can be after all.
I think it is because the truck was not driving and the only ting they did was throwing in the garbage. The operator was on the side by the controlls (Not on camera) and he only controlled the compactor when the kids where way back from the truck. He also warned everebody for shrapnel when there where hard plastic items being compacted. I know how this truck controlls (I worked about a year on one) and it is pretty safe i think. It has a special plate and if the plate is lowered the computer in the truck knows it is in ''Bulk waste mode'' and it automaticaly changes the way it controlls the compactor. If you push the button 1 time the compactor automaticaly comes forward but does not come down; If you want to lower the compactor in the hopper you have to keep the button pushed, If you release the button it instantly stops the compactor. when the compactor is fully down in the hopper it automaticaly compacts the waste in the body. So the most dangerous part is fully manually: You need to keep the button pushed if it is releashed the compactor stops. I hope this clarifies the situation in the video. Thanks for your comment! :D
Much as though I love watching dustcarts crushing....there was a lot of stuff there that could easily have been recycled or repurposed. The amount of waste we are generating is simply unsustainable.
I would love to had hidden myself inside the blue suitcase that gets thrown in at 4 mind 47. It gets cycled but not crushed. It remerges at 6 mind 01 unharmed. It gets cycled a second time. It disappears. It gets cycled a third time. It reappears at 7 mind 51 and gets cycled a fourth time. I would love to ride in there, listening to everything being crushed with me.
Schaam jullie noorderburen! Ik walg hiervan!
The truck is not moving, The driver is only pushing the compactor button. The people who organize this market and some random kids throw al the stuff in, I can better film a playground full of people that are running around. It will look about the same xD pretty chaotic moment
Nice video. In the UK this type of packer was called `Vulture' btw. It would be helpful if you could maybe mention this name in the tag names? so that a search will find your video. I see the country is The Netherlands (truck licence plate 8:20).
Thanks for your comment! :D the tag ''vulture'' has been succesfully added to the tags :D :D It's indeed in the Netherlands, I captured it on a annual fleamarket thats hold in September, There is another video from the same market on my channel.
@@pistolcrossbow Hi again sorry to bother you but I thought you would be interested in this video since I find that specific force information is hard to find:- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IaC_KqIA_Rk.html Please see my translation of the video description - up to 32 tonnes! (presumably a safety relief valve lifts at this point) I would imagine that the force forward into the front of the truck for the 2nd stage of the packing cycle is even larger.....
