I went camping at the Grand Canyon on the National Forest land south of the park, and heard a bugle way out of season. It scared me shitless. I couldn't think about what it was until the morning and by then I'd spent all night awake waiting to hear another bugle even closer than the last 10. I have no idea what caused it to Bugle in the spring, but it was rather unsettling at the time.
That noise is so awesome. It encapsulates everything about the wild north that feels otherworldly. If you haven't heard it before, I doubt you could imagine such a noise yourself.
Telling you I was hunting one this year and you never get an idea about how loud and powerful it is until you are 50 yards away watching the bull come closer
I stumbled across this video having no knowledge of elk vocalizations at all.. Now I'm here just stunned at this incredible sound. I knew animals make some wild noises but this is really amazing.
I was up in Washington last summer doing construction work and all throughout the woods you could hear them. It's quite an experience. They are beautiful creatures.
Imo, this is one of the best bugle/chuckle videos I've come across because it captures some of the echo in the environment which makes the call allthemore impressive in person. Thanks!
I heard this reverberate for kilometers down the Bow River Valley in Alberta - I didn't know what had caused it at the time, I knew it was the most incredible thing I had ever heard in the wild though. This is great footage but no video can do it justice.
Ah the song you hear in the mountains: Start with an ambient rattle paired with a soft shivering tambourine for the leaves, wind, and rodents. A little bit of guitar, because there are no shortcuts when traveling, every step is a little lower or higher than the last. And finally, a wood whistle for an elk. The sound of an elk makes this piece especially unique, because the song is so soft you might not notice it until the elk sings.
Really? Absurd. You must live in a cubicle. And I suppose you were around when Columbus landed? Ask the First Nations and they will tell you what happened to the ELK and to their own people, when your buddy Columbus landed.
Alayaheart those were bison who were hunted to near extinction. Elk aren't really from Florida to Maine. And Columbus didn't land in America he actually landed in what we know today as Cuba. He discovered Cuba, not America
video doesn't do the sound justice when your out before sun up with you bow or rifle and you hear this sound going off and echoing through the mountains it's quite the experience
chistine lane until you have hunted an animal you cannot truly appreciate them, how cunning and beautiful they are. BTW, hunters are the ones that saved these animals along with whitetail deer, turkeys, and many other NA species.
D Cummings then you have never appreciated an animal. If you appreciated them, you'd never waste their life for meaningless reasons. And hunters were the ones that caused the problems with those species in that first place
chistine lane so you are a vegan then I take it. Otherwise you have no leg to stand on saying hunting, processing of an animal, then eating that animal is a waste. Not to mention 100% of the profits made from hunting and a significant amount of the sale of hunting supplies goes directly to the conservation of these animals. You can get emotional and bad mouth hunting but without it there would be no more big game animals in North America. How much money have you spent on wildlife conservation?
Heard an elk bugle while camping just about close to sun down! Next day went to hike that area where I heard it and came across a herd and was about 10 ft. From it eating from a high tree! Spooked the bull and the herd followed across to mt. Taylor....They we’re literally gone in seconds, but it was cool to see the truckers see them cross the road!
I kid you not if youre close enough you can feel a big bulls bugle through the ground and almost deafening if they're facing you. Instant chills, especially if you have s longbow I your hand.
We had a heard by us in Sequim, Washington and the sound would sit me right up every time. They are so big and 1st time I connected the sound with the animal, I was baffled. Just didn't expect that.
I can see where the Pokemon Xerneas was based on! If you listen to its cry...it sounds so similar! But an elk in the wild is the most majestic sound in nature
AWESOME VIDEO GUYS! The elk is about the only big game animal I have ever been interested in hunting. I believe it is the fact that they can be called in like predators! But hearing the distant bugle on the hunting shows gives my goose bumps! This video magnified that by a hundred!! You could tell he caught a scent he didn't like. I guess the cow's scent in the area took over any caution the bull had. But my heart was about to jump out of my chest when it turned & looked in the camera!
I pooped my pants because I shot a elk bit before dark and by the time I gutted him it was night and like 50 yards away a bull that I didn’t know was there bugle and it scared me so bad I think I may have died a little inside
They taste delicious and have some extremely healthy meat. Why does it bother you that people eat meat from the wild? Do you question why all predators eat meat? The whole "use every part" statement is kind of stupid and ignorant of people to claim. The hide is about the only useful byproduct and we used to be able to drop off at collection sites like vfw or Boy Scouts to use. But thanks to activist we now have to toss is down a canyon. But i guess it makes for happy scavengers. Nothing lives forever more elk probably die of old age and predation then wind up in the freezer.
+Ievolovel Because of the meat, the challenge, and stewardship reasons. Elk meat is absolutely delicious, and is healthier than any other meat you will find in stores. Hunting, if done properly, connects you closer to nature than any camping trip could. There are so many elk in some areas of the west that the forests are unable to regenerate because of the heavy browsing caused by elk.
