You should have studied more in school…. Lol I know what you mean though, he is a very special horse and deserves the hype he is getting. The sport needs a horse like this once in a while to put some outside eyes back in the game.
I've been a fan of Harness Racing for almost 50 years and I have to say that Bulldog Hanover is a Monster, So Impressive To Watch! His Strength!! Haven't been this impressed since Naitross !
@@shanefaulkner8586 Not overly impressed with the batch that chased him around all season. I've seen better years with more quality top horses than that 2022 bunch.
Wish they'd kept the close-up camera on him immediately post race; he was a bit of a handful to pull up, which was how he was at the Meadowlands. Great pacer.
I think he might be the greatest not sure definitely 2nd greatest. I saw niatross 4 times plus his time trial. Can you imagine what he would do today!!
and with Clint Gailbeth driving, probably one of the worst drivers ever, sad Niatross never really passed his blood along as a stallion, or his monster son Nialator, but an amazing racehorse
I totally agree, I was at many of Niatross' races as well, and never seen any of the latest Great Ones have what he had, but this Bulldog is pretty close.
@@williamfluck148 I would put Matts Scooter up against him any day. The fields Bulldog faces do not compare with older fields of yesteryear. Sure, they run faster times but the equipment and training is better now.
At the 3 min. mark, as Dunn is scoring Bulldog Hanover, watch to the horse's left as Bulldog's shadow appears, fades, then appears, fades... It's an interesting illusion.
The horse was purchased for $28k, nobody was interested except Jack Darling. Imagine spending 100-300k for a horse, that will never come anywhere close to this horse.
I've never watched harness...only well...the other kind of horse racing. LOL. Couple questions. 1. ) what kind of horses are these? 2. ) what are the "rules" -- The horses are trained "not" to run somehow or the harness makes it so they can only trot or whatever it is they are doing? Seems like there could be a lot of upsets in this, as I could horses getting pinned in fairly easily. Can someone summarize for me. Thanks.
These are Standardbreds! Standardbreds are most well known as harness racing horses but they do make nice riding horses and pleasure driving horses as well. They are typically very good natured and sensible; they don't tend to be as flighty or hot as thoroughbreds often are. Standardbreds race at either a trot or a pace; this horse is a pacer (see how the legs on one side move together, and the legs on the other side move together? that's a pace). Many horses wear a special set of hobbles - trotting hobbles or pacing hobbles - that help them maintain the correct gait without breaking; this horse is wearing pacing hobbles, which are the straps that go around the hind leg forward to the front leg, you can just see them in this video. They are also generally discouraged in training from breaking into a canter or gallop and some horses do find it easier to stay in the correct gait naturally even without the hobbles. If a horse does break into the wrong gait while racing, their driver is to immediately rein them back in to the correct gait before continuing to race.
I seen the race where Jody got set down, he did drive him rough but the horse wasn’t right that day either. Look when Dexter drove him and finished second, the horse didn’t get beat, the driver did. But that’s what happens when you have the handholds so far back that your arms can’t rate the horse. 3/4 of the race his hands where right behind the buckle, my opinion any how
I'm inclined to agree. When I broke in I was taught to set my handholds far enough forward so that if the horse bolted, I had plenty of space to correct him. But, race bikes were much different then.
@@comesahorseman I drove a lot and when the handholds are so far back that your arms get sore it’s foolish. Even if he would have had the buckle in his hands he could have rated him better. But anyhow I only did it as a hobby my last 10 years, I’m a mechanical contractor and one thing really bothers me. See when we need people to work for us and there is not enough skilled labour in Canada we always go to the US for our tradesman. Bringing in people from other continents is a last resort, there is no shortage of good drivers in North America, why is our governments allowing people to take the drives from our drivers? It’s nothing against Mr Dunn it’s all about looking after our people first. I watched a horse he drove at the red mile also, the horse was 1-9, believe me it’s easy to win when your driving the best.
@Dino G Both amazing horses but hard to say which is better. Somebeachsomewhere's racing record was phenomenal and as a breeding stallion he has left the most amazing prodigy. Hard to imagine Bulldog Hanover being as great as a breeding stallion but let's hope he can be.
no disrespect , but SB is tons better than bull , only tiny one nose (btw was his greatest race ) got in front of him. Bull had dozens of horses past & beat him. SB won't allow that. He's second or third to Niatross , Niliator might be better that's it period
They race the daylights out of these horses. Thirty to over 100 races these poor horses endure. If lucky they get adopted to horse lover. Too many end up on the slaughter line. Horrid.
Or, they could race at 2 and 3, then be retired to have a foal or two, and to give me my first riding lessons. Her name was Roan Raider, and she lived to 26, look her up.
