Great shots... as per usual - :-). Interesting (rough) comparison of rebuilt to original Bulleid light pacifics when in top condition. Both trains of approx equal weight. 34046's (rebuilt engine) train took 25.5 secs approx to pass the final stanchion in your frame starting at 02.35 while 34067's (original design) train took 17.5 secs approx to pass the final stanchion in your frame starting at 06.06 at what looked to be the same camera angle and location. Neither rear attached class 47 diesel appeared to be applying any significant push (no real 'growl' apparent). A fair few unknowns such as speed at the foot of the bank, signals approaching the bank, driver skill and intent but, despite this, an interesting comparison. I think that in BR days with the generally rather low level of maintenance that when such engines were into the later half of their intermediate overhaul cycles that the original's design advantages would have ebbed away and that the (robust and cheaper to service) rebuild would have shown its operational advantage.
