MORE ON THIS STORY abc13.com/3239268

Follow-up: • Man Who Called Out All...
When Greg Barrett (a KISD graduate from 1983, formerly known as Greg Gay) spoke at a recent school board meeting, no one expected would happen next. Mr. Barrett describes the horrendous school bullying he endured as a teen - proclaiming that the very man sitting on the school board is the person who bullied him some 35 years ago. Mr. Barrett believes he was attacked because his last name was "Gay".

I was a bullied kid in school. Later in life I learned different martial arts and learned to stand up for myself. Grew above the line of fear. However, one thing I've learned about bullies after years of being bullied: >They are primarily cowards. >They pick up on the weak and vulnerable only, to show their pseudo strength. And that is because they are sh** scared of those stronger or tougher than them. > A truly courageous and tough person will never bully a weaker person as a gesture of class and self respect, which the bullies have none.

Even though I’ve gotten far in life and am at a more peaceful place it makes me wonder where I would be if I had support. My dad wasn’t around, my mom was snuggled up under my abusive step dad, my siblings were more extroverted than me and to make matters worse I was the weird gay kid But I lock back now with where I am today with a smile but also shock because there were times I thought about taking sleeping pills to end it all or walking in front of a vehicle but man the world I’ve seen since then makes me smile But I still want to lay hands on my bullies idc 😂 I’m strong now. 😂

I was never bullied again after that, ended up being friends with some of them. Not everything has to end in someone being killed. There needs to be more effective ways in dealing with individuals of sociopathic and psychopathic tendencies. The current expected manner of treatment, both in the community and the clinic is proving to be counterproductive in actually minimizing the societal damage caused by such individuals. This would include measures to both prevent and treat these brain disorders, particularly one’s which would stress the level of prevention. The sufferers of the disease are not those with it, but those around them, and that simply is an untold amount of consequential damage in almost all domains of operation. Especially as observed in rare cases involving corruptions of power such as is most likely this one.

The bully laughs because he sees it as a funny memory. He wasn’t thinking about the effect it had on his victim, but the joy he felt in overpowering his victim. There is still a part of him that feels this way after all these years. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have responded that way. That is a dangerous trait for someone in authority to have. He quit out of embarrassment, but he was a risk to the larger community and that is why he had to leave.

But, it is very obvious he isn’t remorseful, just because a person gets hurt doesn’t mean they can have a free pass to hurt others. I have been hurt , but I don’t use my trauma to be a crappy person. Hurting others after knowing what you’ve been makes it worse. Yeah, he should let it go, but that doesn’t excuse the judge’s behavior either. @Richard Schiffman yeah but either some parents don’t have time or have very little general knowledge or little knowledge about specific topics that are also important. Which is only natural of course, but that’s my point, no one person could replace all teachers a kid would have at a school. They might not be perfectly effective all the time or serve the best education experience but the sheer knowledge a child is exposed at a school is important for any child growing up in today’s world. Now that doesn’t mean that we can’t change it of course. Maybe the school system needs a complete rework from the ground up, absolutely. I just don’t think that home schooling is a valid alternative

@Bankable2790
@Bankable2790 3 года назад
There is little difference between sociopath and psychopath, and differing clinical definitions depending on who you ask. They are poorly clinically defined. Unfortunately you cannot "correct" psychopathy out of someone... only manipulative behaviors. They are still psychopaths and will act without remorse, which is the true problem. It does typically show itself in childhood and it definitely should be corrected - psychopath or not. But if corrected in psychopaths they will always revert, because correction and enforcement/punishment doesn't affect them in the same way it affects non-psychopaths, with whom they cannot relate.

I totally understand what this brave man, as a boy, went through. I was heavily bullied in school and I wished for death to free me from the living hell I was in. The difference, though, is that when I faced my bully 30 years later, he felt terrible and did something I never expected...he made a public apology. He gained my respect for that and now we are friends. It is so important to treat others the way you want to be treated, kindly and with respect. And if you were a bully as a child, have the maturity, respect and self love to find those whom you have bullied and apologise. It makes all the difference. To the bullied as well as to the bully. This man was unbelievably brave to walk up to his bully and and face him with his crimes. It takes guts to do that. Respect! The fool bully who laughed just showed that he is a gutless coward at heart. I'm glad he got his. As a teacher, bullying, I can tell you, is a form of abuse and should absolutely NOT be tolerated. EVER.

I was talking with some friends and colleagues recently about bullying in schools - and particularly 7th grade situations we know about and from public schools to private and in different locations. It’s shock to know the violence that has and continues to occur. This video gives me insight that small bullies can grow up to be big bullies and the importance and value of speaking up about it even if it’s 35 years later because it tests to see if change really did occur and if not, then it shows what a risk and danger that person can be wherever they are at now.

I was bullied and teased mercilessly at school because I was very thin and malnourished for much of my childhood and was painfully shy. We learn to suppress that darkness, ill feeling and self hatred because society demands that we do that and get on with the rest of our lives. It’s remarkable how little is assessed of the social and economic impact this unresolved psychological torture and time bomb has on society as a whole. From days off work due to stress and depression, the marriage breakdowns/divorces, all the way up to suicides, suicidal incidents, and spree murders. Somewhere amongst that shit you’ll often find a legacy victim who never really got over the powerful psychological trauma of bullying.
