LMAO! Slightly in the defense of the cop, he REALLY believed if ryan was shot in the head, he would either be dead or incapacitated! I am sure this was his VERY first encounter with a person who survived a gun shot to the face! i still think the cop was negligent to NOT call EMS much, much sooner!
@@inconnu4961 And thats the point: how can someone with no or only basic medical training assume something he can not verify? That detective was an arrogant prick.
Anyone sees his condition should know something’s very wrong with that. Even if he was still talking fine that would hurt to say the least after adrenaline wore off or not. No excuses really that would remotely seem reasonable.
My heart goes out to Ryan & his family. Horrble how we are no longer in a society of law. You can be held without due process or medical attention. I've seen it first hand in prison where us inmates gave cpr because the CO's didn't care.
I've never been even as far as the drunk tank. I watch a lot of that "60 days" show, in no way am I saying I get the life. What I am saying is, One thing I always notice is that COs don't break up fights or helpt the inmates when they should/can prevent a lot of the stuff from happening. Not even for a major network camera crew, so I can only imagine how they suffer when it's just them and no cameras. From an outside perspective, prison itself is far worse than any sentence. I empathize for prisoners the most in regards to all people involved in the prison system, it's f*cked up. Edit: except for p3dos, they can die lol.

Ryan's interrogation was the first interrogation I ever have watched that made me cry... Not only did he lose his girlfriend, his lover... he was shot, lived, and was mocked and mistreated by the cops for them to hold hostage a dying survivor of such a horrific incident. The loss of his lover to violent circumstances is soul-crushing for viewers like me, but to see him suffer that much more is just- I don't even know. I hope Ryan and Heather are together in a better place, god bless their souls..
Poor Ryan, bro. His death could’ve easily been avoided. Poor guy. He was just an innocent guy who had his girlfriend murdered and survived a shooting, it’s shocking how strong he was
Well sadly, he took his own life. Altho it may have been a result of that trauma but imma not assume😭 But yes, he was innocent and did not deserve that

The fact that Ryan keeps saying "I wanna go to sleep, I wanna go to sleep", is a tell tale sign of a serious brain injury. These police officers should be put on a trial of their own.
The officer was probably hoping to capitalize off the brain injury to get a confession out of him. Honestly, Im not that mad at the cop cuz he was just too ignorant to realize that dude was about to die.
@@freevideoservicePolice have no legal obligation to protect anyone actually. They try to stop crimes and catch criminals, that’s it. Ryan’s gunshot wound looked nothing like a gunshot wound at all. i was actually crying at ryan's interrogation, seeing him in such amount of pain while the detective just did nothing was just heartbreaking. he was clearly not okay he was groaning in pain, it did make me cry
When you think of it, it’s disgusting and sad how I detective could literally just be leaving a man there that is shot in the eye and was shot in the head and the bully is still in his head. How is he questioning him and thinking that he’s going to reply with Claire answers?
That fool interrogating Ryan pisses me off. That was so disgusting and I hope he never finds peace because he was cruel and should have known better. I wonder what grade he completed mentally.
I too skipped this one, because I saw the longer version on another video and what some people don't know is they kept Ryan in a hot police car in their garage for 4hrs prior, to the hour interrogation.
@@bridgethamilton6057 I also saw a long version, watched the whole thing, cause you dont find out till later that he really had been shot. I had to skip it on this one too. It was just too much!
The entire interrogation of Ryan is on RU-vid and it is HORRIFIC. He was clearly incredibly confused, disoriented and in immense pain…and not a single cop noticed. Or cared to notice. It is heartbreaking that after witnessing the murder of his gf, being brutally attacked in his own home, and having VISIBLE injuries NO ONE intervened on his behalf. May Ryan rest in peace.
its so upsetting watching that interrogation, he was treated as a suspect when he was a victim, and no one cared to help him till the last moments where it had detrimental effects
I've seen that clip a few times. But I never knew he took his life or passed. I am so saddened to hear that. Idk who he was as a person but I'm shocked when arrested wasn't automatically taken to the hospital. You have 2 people shot. What the heck did you think? But clearly why would you want to interrogate someone claiming to have been shot in the head. Easy for defense if that came out. That's just crazy 😢
Someone with a big ass mark on their face, says they been shot in the eye and they are talking in circles, and keeps saying they want to go to sleep, and you still didn't take him to a hospital?! like how many clues do you need to realize his has suffer a head injury?!?!?! OMG I feel so bad for this guy! That poor guy, that is horrible!
Ryan's story is probably one of the saddest I've heard so far. The combination of circumstances was really playing against him, the impossible situation he's experiencing and probably the worst person in the world to deal with it is facing him.
As a non nurse and someone who has had no formal medical training whatsoever... I can also tell right off the bat he needs medical attention. No excuse for that. It's so sad watching him answer questions just like someone who is half asleep, half dreaming and just trying to get back to sleep...
How on earth did that cop with Ryan, get to the position of being a detective? Unbelievable, Ryan even told him what happened, and he still persisted with his questions, absolutely shocking,RIP Ryan, you deserved better.
Ryan DID deserve better! But the cop even said it: if he had been REALLY shot in the eye, Ryan would be dead or unconscious. NOT sitting in a chair, answering questions and sounding so surprisingly coherent! Cop really should have called medical sooner, if just for intoxication.
That's not fair to the dectective. 99,99% of the time, a shot in the T-spot would be fatal, but this was an exception to the rule. One might assume Ryan was mentally unstable during the investigation without knowing the truth. It's easy to put the blame on the police after knowing what really happened. Saying that the dectective should've dropped everything and called an ambulace when Ryan said that he was shot in the eye, is just ignorant.
Jesus he tried to stay calm and answer questions while literally going through that kind of pain and injury. What a moronic officer, even a child would've figured out something was waaay off. This man should've held accountable for murder. You attack a cop or lie about taxes, zing, 10 years. Do something like that? 3 Years, out after 1 on parole.
Honestly Ryan's interrogation tape might be the most traumatizing one I've ever watched. I couldn't shake the thought of actively watching someone being mistreated while they die, and can't even call for help. Also he was in police custody which makes it even more tragic. I pray he is at peace in Heaven.
@@Xoiskin1969X i don't think they realized he was dying. But they definitely made him suffer without any medical support because they thought he murdered her and the injuries were from her fighting back.
For the second story, you've actually misidentified the perpetrator using the victim's name. The person the arrow is pointing to at 2:18 is Terrell Rhodes, not Amari Nicholson. Nicholson is the name of the 2-year-old boy who was killed, while Rhodes is the person accused of killing him. Of course, I'm sure this misidentification wasn't intentional, but you can imagine how the victim's family might feel about the mix-up. In any case, though, thanks for the video!
That's not the only mistake @DrInsanityCrime made. They state that Ryan Waller was brought in for interrogation just after having been shot in the head. Anyone familiar with teh story and timeline knows that Ryan Waller was shot on Dec 23rd and found three days later. It says a lot about the effort this youtube channel's owner has put into affirm and reaffirm facts for this viewer-count hungry channel.
Yep @DrInsanityCrime you're gonna get major lawsuits through posting these videos - defamation of character and such. You're displaying victim and perpetrator names to millions of peoples and misidentifying people. If I was a victim and got identified as a perp I would throw so much fking lawsuits. This could change the life negatively because of public searches for employment, relationships, etc. These channels should really start obsfucating names before these lawsuits come around
I live in Phoenix, Arizona where this took place and I was not the least bit surprised when this took place. This shows exactly the extent of how poorly trained their personnel are and the vast lack of oversight with anything that happens behind closed doors. He was pulled out of the house on a stretcher and yet the police took him rather than letting EMS check him out. This is so common, his attitude of the police not following evidence but instead deciding for themselves someones guilt and refuses to listen..... and then he inspects the poor boy for himself FINALLY.
not just that, but he was like that for something like 2 days before his father had a welfare check done on him. I watch MrBallen and he covered this particular story. It is one of the more unbelievable stories I've ever heard. especially since he handcuffed himself to the table. if you watch the whole interrogation you can see him do it.
@@TraceguyRune He claimed earlier a few times he was shot in the eye and the cop didn't check. Surely the cop could have seen there was something seriously wrong with Ryan or at least consider he had a concussion due to blunt force trauma and the black and red discoloration. I am hoping Ryan's parents start looking at lawsuits and would have a strong case for it.
The case of Ryan is probably even more interesting since the interrogator probably was not the only police officer failed to notice his critical injury. There were probably other arresting officers involved or officers that dealt with him at the station. Its beyond understanding how multiple officers all failed to notice serious head trauma since most of them stood face to face. I personally think that the shot in the eye simply didn't looked like what these police officers would expect. However, it can be called criminal negligence NOT to do any type of medical evaluation with any type of injury or even a cut. Even if the officers thought he just had a swollen or black eye, can also be negligence since such an injury might contribute to the lost of sight. It is beyond amazing how more than 1 officer did not see a gunshot wound to the eye.
@@katakurifan5213 I think he was probably shot perfectly in the eye and had his eye closed the entire time, covering up the entry wound. His wound did not bleed or his face was not covered in blood. I can understand that his wound did not look like a gunshot wound at all... its just hard to understand that no medical evaluation was done at all. How else didn't any officer noticed the injury?
This is the first time I have seen this video. Ryan's interrogation was illegal as he was suffering from trauma and brain damage and was not mentally competent at the time of the interrogation. That the detective could not tell that he was suffering from something is remarkable. Even if Ryan's condition was developmental disorder, the detective would have needed to have called a person who was trained in special needs and a parent or guardian would have been required to be present.
Yeah, that's the first time I've ever seen an interrogation room with windows and the narrator said it was the fastest escape from interrogation known. I think we can put the two together.

I’d maybe get it if he was claiming blunt force trauma injury, because there might be no physical evidence on the body, but Ryan clearly had a gunshot wound, it doesn’t matter how many dumb kids you’ve dealt with, a gunshot wound is a gunshot wound, if a cop can’t see that, then they’re clearly lacking in observational skills, which cops NEED
Its crazy how Ryan went from bows and arrows to revolvers. Almost as if his mind took a trip wthrough history class amongst the other confusing thoughts he was having.
Not only the detective, but the entire department should have been held accountable for this. In any other civilized country on this planet, the first thing that is always done (after securing the situation) is to see if someone needs medical attention, and only AFTER that are interrogations and other things done - no matter how severe the injuries may look.
United Nations' Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials Article 6: Law enforcement officials shall ensure the full protection of the health of persons in their custody and, in particular, shall take immediate action to secure medical attention whenever required.

It's interesting how the media gave so little attention to Ryan's case. I've never heard of it, even though it's one of the worst examples of police incompetence and brutality ever recorded.
That wouldn't go unnoticed today, but back then (early 2000's or even before) media wasn't really interested in police wrong-doings. For an example police brutality has been an issue for many many decades yet it's only started to become into a showcase within the last decade. I bet there was no consequences for the detective either, although he literally caused the victim's brain damage to become unrepairable, which eventually led into his death.
It’s because he’s white. The media only pushes the “police brutality” narrative when it’s a black person suffering from the “police brutality”….This is an ACTUAL case where a police officer FAILED MISERABLY yet it’s not even reported on because it doesn’t push their false narrative

Ryan's father tried to sue for $15 million that the Sanfranciso police department failed to give his son medical treatment for 6-8 hours after the incident. The lawsuit was dismissed by the city of Pheonix, which has led into beliefs and allegations of concerted corruption by city attorneys, police officrs and detectives. There was discovery of tampering of evidence, falsifying of information and misconduct by the department, in particular the interogator. To this day the Ryan's family are hoping to reopen this case, spread awareness, expose corruption and seek justice.
Ryan was a real trooper for being able to talk while being in the state he was in. I feel really bad for him too because headshots don’t always lead to instant death but I guess that’s what the officer thinks happens.
This kid still had enough willpower to build up a coherent story of the event while his brain was melting. What a champ. I have no doubt this cop would drown in his own tears if he happen to hurt his toe. I have words to express how upset I am but youtube won't allow the truth to be spoken
Ryan handcuffed himself to the desk. He was in such bad shape and essentially reverted back to basic human function; he knew handcuffs go on the hand so he put them on then immediately forgot about doing it when he tried to get up right after. Had he gotten medical attention immediately instead of being locked in a patrol car for an hour and then sitting in an interrogation room for even longer, then spent even more time being mocked by s moron with a badge, he could have recovered and had an actual chance at a life after this. Basic human decency is all it would have taken. Just one look at him it was clear something wasn’t right. That’s one of the most disturbing stories out there and I absolutely hate that happened to him. He was robbed any chance at a life, he was never the same after and died 10 years later from a seizure related directly to the injuries he sustained.

The cop with the interview where the guy was shot should be charged with manslaughter. He obviously has physical trauma with that black eye and should have had medical attention immediately no matter if he was the perpetrator or not. I've seen this story many times on other channels and it's been established that he could've been saved with very little lasting side effects if they had gotten him immediate attention when they found him
Nah, manslaughter would be causing unintentional death AND is necessary to be the one who caused the injury that resulted in death. This AT most would be gross negligence, which is more serious than a simple act of carelessness, but this here to be honest, would almost be guaranteed “Resulting death due to negligence”, simply because these cops are used to being lied to by suspects who will say anything to get out of interrogations, but once realization of his condition set in, the cop changed his course of action to address his condition. The cop in the interview had to believe that the suspect had to have had proper medical assessment AHEAD of the interview which is what they should of done and usually do, this is why this cop couldn’t believe it at first, because suspects EVEN if they don’t look hurt, will be seen by medical and assess vitals and injuries if there is any indication the body suffered damage. Who ever is in charge in overseeing and enforcing policy is MORE responsible for his death than the officer in the room who had believed the guy had already been checked out by medical staff. This is why normal people like you, or even myself aren’t judges, and don’t decide the fate of others with charges, because you make judgments based off emotions and don’t care to investigate further or try to understand other possibilities. You see a short video and seal their fate. That right there just goes to show IF you had the power, you would also ruin lives due to negligence, and then would justify it when it is in fact unjust. To be fair, I still agree the cop is so dense. Dude couldn’t think straight with a bullet in his head, so he could not dedicate the right names to the right people, and could not dedicate the right names of weapons used, he had to remember things while his brain was damaged and swelling with infection. He wasn’t even sure if was in shot but couldn’t think of any other reason his head and eye was damaged this way, I get it. It stirs understandable emotion, HOWEVER, no matter what media and people say, interrogations are not deadly, don’t cause death, talking to someone just doesn’t do that, and it’s not torture either. The cop unfortunately was just very SLOW to picking up on signs of Ryans condition. It’s not everyday you talk to people freshly shot in the head. Ryan was discovered with injuries and should have had medical clearance before even talking to that guy in the room.

I'm a former Speech Therapist and have met *several* people over the years who had survived gunshots to the head, either from attack or self inflicted. One, that I helped treat, had tried to kill himself by gun to temple, and ended up taking off a very large part of his head, and still survived. After initial surgery, the man literally had half his brain removed, it was a bit jarring to see him initially as he literally had a huge chunk of his head just gone. And he lived, and could talk, not very focused, but that's one of the things we addressed. Honestly, I cannot believe any cop would not realize people can and do survive gunshots to the head. I'm honestly not surprised this guy is able to talk, but you can easily, EASILY, see that as it goes on his having a harder time answering questions and his speech is slowing a lot and sounds are running together. If the vid isn't flipped, that guy got nailed I the left side of frontal lobe, and I've not finished vid yet so I don't know how far bullets went, but frontal lobe is heavy for cognitive abilities, and left side is the language/speech dominant side. He probably is able to understand he's supposed to provide an answer of some sort, but that's not evidence he's answering anything accurately. I hope that cop got suspended and either retrained or just fired. Part of me hopes he beat himself up over his error enough that he'd never make that error again and train others to be watchful. Regardless, injury should lead to hospital or EMT before interrogations to make sure person is medically cleared. I mean, shit, this kid coulda said he killed his gf but he likely had not clue what he was saying. If he'd lived and been put on trial, any lawyer coulda gotten it tossed. It's just stupid, sloppy, awful, sad, and tragic. I feel sick.
OK, he was arrested. Good. Im gonna have to look it up to see his take on it just bc I'm curious. Dude legit said to EMTs that Ryan was acting like he had a brain injury. I'm not surprised at all he got an infection either, bullets are dirty dirty things. That poor poor kid. So tragic.
Ryan Weller didn't receive any justice. He went blind and started having seizures and ended up dying in the end. That officer is so pathetic it disgusts me.
With your level of 20/20 hindsight, you should definitely become a cop! We have a national shortage of police officers, so right now they are paying well and taking anyone who applies.
@@Dawn737you can't tell me that looking at Ryan and see he wasn't okay... Should have always been a visit to medical check up... Don't be this type of person, please, you are sick
@@TimothyGod I hope someday a detective solves your murder the way you think this detective should have solved Heather's, by taking a walking, talking suspect who had called 911 and initially claimed he got slapped in his eye by you to the hospital the minute he changed the story to he got shot in the eye. There, he can cook up the rest of his story and beat the murder rap. You think that's good enough for Heather, so it's good enough for you.
The officer who interrogated Ryan is definetly the dumbest person I've ever seen in the entire world. 3 years is not enough it should be life for that officer for the murder of Ryan
Watching the video of Ryan being interrogated is not only the most heart breaking thing ever but it makes my blood boil! How stupid can that cop be??? Damn straight the cop should have gotten more then 3 years! PS. Love your channel!
@@charris-gendron8878well, they were unaware , and it is not like they have someone hit by bullet in eye and head 4 times still walking speaking etc. Stop being so extreme. Reason for his demise is what happened to him, those culprits who shot him, not this cop.
@@phoenyxx_hd yes, hindsight is 20/20 You find a dead girl in someone's house, that guy acting calm and not bothered by the dead body, with what appears to be black eye (possibly from getting punched in the struggle) . .. you see all of that and you think they will act very kind to someone? All they saw was black eye... don't think that required urgent medical care.. if it did cops would have suspected he would call 911 himself earlier.
The first time I heard of Ryan I knew I had to watch a whole video breaking everything down, it was so sad because Ryan was clearly showing emotions and movements showing he’s in pain .This case was heartbreaking and when this popped up in this video it totally brought me back ☹️
very big respect for the detectives from the cassie's case. the amount of traces and motives made it impossible to complete the puzzles and they still did it. thats the police i want to see
