I am SO DISAPPOINTED! I was really looking forward to this video. You should have stood/parked in the exact spot Steve McQueen's character did in every comparison. Otherwise it's pointless. But the biggest letdown, I've seen on Google Maps where they make the very sharp right turn at the corner (6:45) where there WAS grass and a vacant lot across the street, now is completely apartments. :(. Otherwise thank you so much for your time.

this is fantastic! we were on holiday in sfo a few years ago and i was disappointed to find that no one did a tour like the one you've filmed - surely having the most famous car chase of all time in your history is worth someone recreating it - even just for us tourists?! doesn't anyone do a bullitt tour of sfo?!

Add the music and those V-8s roaring on the soundtrack, still the best chase scene ever! Reminds me of when I was first dating my wife in S.F. - went off the top of Virginia St without braking, must have gotten all four wheels of my Corolla off the ground!

You should do a 2010 version of this... Gas now is $3.40 a gallon. If McQueen was alive today, what would he be driving? A bicycle? :P

Wow, I live only about an hour south of the film location but have always wondered where some of the scenes were shot. You not only found some of the roads but the whole route, good job.. I'm surprised how rural some of the areas still are today. Where is the highway between 7'45" and 8'? Is that the road up to Twin Peaks?

The Video is Creative....But you should have used a Newer Mustang for the Updated scenes. Maybe a Newer version is in order...

How would Chad McQueen react to this? He's the successor-in-interest to his father's estate. "Bullitt" is a part of it.

Great video. I did a similar thing matching the chase scene in "My Life in San Francisco (1989), part 6".

You bunch of dorks..... Thats a great "Home" video, well shot and well interlaced with the original footage. I stumbled across this accidentally. And to get the original soundtrack songs is fab. I got a 68 390 GT Fastback over here in England and always wondered what the places look like now where the film was shot originally. Well done you guys. From all the Bullitt lovers over here Cheers

dude are you kidding me? i seriously harder than that on my way to work every morning than every single shot in this video combined, and im not even exaggerating in the least bit. it doesn't matter how much gas cost....he would still be driving a MOPAR with a big block much like my self. this isn't comparable to bullitt in any way shape or form. there isn't anything hard core or dangerous about it ....

Interesting to see how little has changed, and good effort in putting together-not sure Mr McQueen would be a Honda Civic fan! My neighbour used to live in the Brentwood area, back in the 60's and often saw Steve out in his souped up mini cooper.He even got talking to Steve about his latest wheels at a gas station, and at that time Steve came across as a decent and down to earth guy.He was also often about fast driving by himself, and not as we always think, surrounded by flunckies!

first, get rid of your 'peek-a-boo' crap at the end. second, when you go to film at the original locations, how about doing it at THE RIGHT TIME OF DAY!!! like i don't know, maybe noon-ish???!! third, get some video editing software, so you can edit your film in with the original -- i assume you have it on DVD?

Good job . It's cool to see the scenes then/now . Thanks for posting the video . Gas prices are a LOT higher now than when you shot the vids , and I think McQueen would still not drive a Civic , lol !! Just foolin' with ya ... gotta do whatcha gotta do ! Not everyone can be Steve McQueen .
@HarrisonXL

Just keep kidding yourself. McQueen once showed up to a gala put on by the biggest names in Hollywood in a flannel shirt and jeans with a fully-grown lumberjack beard. Somehow I don't think he would be driving a Honda Civic. He might buy one just to demolish it with his Mustang.
@lukeshytalker02
@lukeshytalker02 14 лет назад
@johndglynn yeah but 1,i doubt he would've bought the civic in the first place, 2, i'd rather drive a battered old pick up truck than a civic, 3 if he needed gasoline that bad, he could've taken some from his arm as steve had petrol flowing through his veins or he could've used a motorbike lol

Taken in the spirit of tribute from San Francisco which sort of transformed itself from the city of love to the city of queens since 1968 it sort of fits that a Honda doubles for a 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390. I'm sure McQueen would pay the gas bill and drive the legend if he were still alive.

Between 2005-2008m I have been visited the orginal scene of movie so many times I noticed that the vicinity of the aparmtent of Capt Bulitt W/O changed and the small market across the street is still there. But the safe house- Danny Hotel had already rebuilded to be a shopping mall.
@junkman9
@junkman9 15 лет назад
first off.... Steve Mcqueen would never drive a honda civic! THAT IS GAWD AWEFUL! PLUS even if gas was 2.69 he would have driven his mustang becuz hes king of cool! so really video is ok, i liked it, its just that the civic belongs no where near the scene! ITS SO GAWD AWEFUL but nice job anyways.

Hi there! I am sure that you noticed that new beetle on those downhill streets? You should have filmed him four times - like in the original movie! PS: What is this for a soundtrack version? I've got the original soundtrack. And it differs from the one that you used...

Just watched your video and must say a job well done. BULLITT is one of my top ten favorite movies and I have always wanted to travel the route taken by McQueen in the film. Too bad you didn't have a 1968 Mustang GT to travel in. Thanks for sharing. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

The main difference in san francisco now is the rent. I lived there from 1964 to 1987. My rent for a furnished 3 room apartment on Oak street was 80 bucks a month. It was a great city from 54 to 74 and then became yuppified with the building of embarcadaro center. Never the same again.

I don't think he was going for a re-creation of the chase man, lighten up. I believe the author was simply showing then and now, k ?? I am in agreement though, I am not much of an import fan, but don't have such a hate on !

2.69 a gallon?I pay 1.33 euros a Lt and still drive my beautiful 77 camaro hear in Portugal. If the man were alive, even i would fill the tank, just to ride with him in the streets of Frisco in the stang. Oh ... sink the honda in the bay.

Next up, "Streets Of San Francisco". Old potato nose Karl Malden, & Gordon Gecko. "Inspectors 1-2". Good job. I traced a lot of the chase scene back in the 70's, but couldn't levitate from Marina Green to Hunters Point as fas as they did!!

In the 1968 USA were a big and fabolous country,a dream country,today in 2011 USA are a country like others 100 in the world with a lot of problems.The big cars were the symbol of prosperity, now America is a shadow of the past.

Very nice work - this made me smile. I say to ignore the dopey comments about the Honda -- these people obviously miss the point of your work. What were you supposed to do, get a '68 Mustang too? Excellent job.

@zizwop 15 лет назад
What's up with the harsh comments, I think this is kind of cool-took some work, and I love to see how places change. Detective Bullit might not have had a Honda today, unless it was a souped up Civic. I think this is cool.
@irongoxi
@irongoxi 15 лет назад
lack of torque in little Hondas, that's why aren't capable to smoke tires like Bullitt's Mustang GT390. I don't think McQueen would drive a 4 cylinder japanese if he were alive today. Anyway, the video it's well done
@aucksmix
@aucksmix 15 лет назад
Nice to see so much of SF looks the same. But, c'mon - no way Steve would drive a dinky Honda. He'd have a 2008 Mustang Bullitt GT. Thanks for the post, really enjoyed it. Now want to go back to SF myself.

Love the movie, great work with the music and the new and old footage. As for the Honda I guess we'll never know if he would have one but I'd have thought once a petrol head always one. 10 out of 10 on the clip.....

Two things. One: Steve McQueen would never drive anything less than a hot sports car. Two: he would never buy a foreign car (unless it were a german motorcycle and he needed to jump a fence)
