As a Bull mastiff owner of many years I can tell you they will do anything you ask of them , but they may need to think about it for a little while first
Jon, you should watch some dog training videos from Michael Ellis or some of the other professional trainers. Your dogs are awesome but do not listen to you at all. You don't have any key words or markers as they call them. They are supposed to remain in whatever position you want them to stay in until you give them their "break" or positive reinforcement key words or marker words. I have two Bullmastiffs. They are very smart and respond accordingly when you give them the proper training. Just posting my opinion and leaving feedback as you requested. Good luck.
@@mrs.childers8333 Yep, they really are. I tried several different training methods, none worked. Finally I had to go to the e-collar method, which I was pretty loathe to do, but it works great.
I lost my boy Otis in October of throat cancer. he was THE BEST family dog ever. he helped us raise 4 kids with all the love in the world. if you are thinking of a Bullmastiff, you cannot go wrong. brings a test to my eye
people are entitled to their opinions but these videos I do of my best buddies are for the enjoyment & discussions with other dog & Bullmastiff lovers. By all means if you don't like it 'mark a dislike' but please give a reason. They aren't set up in anyway, they are recording how I interact with my dogs whilst sometimes passing a bit of my knowledge I have learnt. If people are getting bored then please let me know as this is the last thing I want JJ
Beau is just like my female bullmastiff, she's well trained but stubborn as can be! She'll listen but would much rather wander about and look at everything, she gets bored easily. Although while Beau is a pup, mine is turning 8 tomorrow, so she's getting old and cantankerous! Beautiful dogs and amazing training! Love the videos.
Jon, Beau and Sasha are outstanding. My Chloe is 4 years old, obedient but can be stubborn. I have had many breeds, but the bullmastiff is my favorite. Loyal, protective with unique personalities. Great video
Jon Williams LoL, Chloe has been sulking all morning. She's upset I am holiday decorating instead of paying attention to her. She pulls at my heart so I am about to take her in the yard to play for a bit . She is my baby...I also have an Amstaff Terrier, a rescue, and they get along very well.
Hey John. Don here. Just got some questions regarding my mustiff. I bought a bullmastiff male puppy which is now 3 months old and fawn colour. Since my house is big with a huge garden i need my mastiff to be much aggressive and a watchdog. So far it doesn't bark or any. Could you tell me at what age does the bullmastiff start to bark and how to make aggressive. All tell me some tips of making my dog better. Waiting for a feedback asap
Ashane Kevin They don't need to bark and no dog should be aggressive unless they need to actually attack, or you'll just have an uncontrollable dangerous liability that you can't trust around anyone. When a dog is truly part of the family, it naturally protects. A dog should instinctively know when someone is up to no good. If you interfere with that, you have a mixed up and usually dangerous dog that may even turn on you. Love and care for him/her and it will do the same for you. I know from experience. Watch "The Dog Whisperer" Cesar Milan on RU-vid or NatGeoWild TV. He is one of, if not the best, Dog Behaviorists. He shows you how to teach a dog very quickly and easily. It's extremely important to learn to read small subtleties in their body language. Tell the dog "1" time to do something Do not repeat the same words because he has already heard you. Repeating it makes them anxious and shows him he doesn't need to do what you say. If he doesn't do the command, you move in a little or as much as you need to. Don't be overly aggressive. It iss extremely important to take a deep breath and ALWAYS be relaxed. When upset, walk away & return when completely relaxed. Be consistent, firm, never angry. You can teach a dog very easily to be almost perfect once you see how it's done. Your dog will respect you like you wouldn't believe! I can show you how to teach him sit, lay, stay hand signals in minutes!
mastiffs dont bark they will watch an intruder and attack when they try to leave and tend to hold the intruder on ground rather than bite thats why they make good pig dogs
our second male we had from a puppy would suddenly jump on our fronts as we were facing him every once in a while with no warning after he was full grown. i was the only one who could stand my ground being i am 6 feet 4 inches tall and was about 320 pounds at that time.but smaller framed people went reeling back.he only did this to adults never to any kids.maybe that was the gamekeepers move he was practicing.
And interesting re not doing it to children ..very good point & true as never does it to my lad or his pals. On a serious note tho I tell my boy not to play fight with his buddies as you can see their faces change
Beau is so handsome! Sasha I've seen in other videos. She is such a well mannered mature beauty. I'm having bullmastiff fever like mad lately. I recently lost my malamute a year and a half ago. I think in the next few years, I'll be ready for another pup and I think the bullmastiff is it. Nice video. I found it some what humorous, in that, you talk him up like he will obey every command and then he responds with a bull headed child like behavior. I can tell he is a well behaved buddy, it just expressed their independence and that they really do need experienced dog owners. You care about your dogs and seem to be doing a great job caring for them. Do you plan to breed Beau by chance? I might be interested in the years to come. Thanks!
No not at all, bull mastiffs are amazing dogs, they might be big but like every pit bull owner tells everyone the way you treat them and teach them how to do things is key. I have an almost six year old bull mastiff and he's such a lovely dog he still thinks he's a puppy 😂
Not really if your in for a challenge i would not get a more independent dog as your first i steer more to a doberman that’s eager to please and work but you need to handle the energy well
If you have had bull mastiff you would be well aware that thay will push you as far as they can before giving in. Such a strong minded dog but in the end will obey the owner. They will push, they will try but I would whole heartedly trust them if you build the boundaries . Big dog with a bad name. Couldn't find a more loyal, caring trustworthy dog... but in their eyes... just up for fun.
Jon what sort of bullmastiffs are your dogs? Had to have mine put to sleep a few years ago, he was a bullmastiff x but just like yours. I am looking for another one now, I miss him so much.
dawnmacky hi there. My boy is full pedigree & Sasha is Bullmastiff x'd with a Rhodesian Ridgebacks back. I feel for you so much losing your best friend. I really don't Know what I will do when that awful day arrives. Until then though I will carrying on enjoying everyday with them
Jon Williams Thanks, mine was crossed with a German pointer, big and loveable like yours are. Love to watch them they remind me so much of my baby.Thank You.👍
i would love to see the dog whisperer episode with a unruly young bully pup! he says no dog is too much for him to handle. like to see a 125 dog suddenly jump up with his paws on either shoulder with no warning and see the the look on cesar's face!
J D Cesar did 2 episodes (maybe more) that I know of. One was Singer Patty LaBell huge South African Boerbul & a lady's huge Boerbul in California. He trains Bulldogs, Pits, Rotties that have been aggressive. When you know how to truly deal with the dog, it will work every time, He saved many dog's lives that were going to be euthanized for being aggressive. A dog should not jump on you unless invited each time. Also, they should only get on "your" furniture when invited, each time or he can become territorial & again , also lose respect for you.
Hey! Do you think that a first dog owner could get a bullmastiff? I've done my research and looked into dog behaviour for over a year now since I want a dog for a really long time. But I've heard they're really stubborn, so I'm not quite sure if the breed would be good for me.
Bullmastiff was our first family dog. Personally I like the challenge of their stubborn streak. With a bullmastiff you have to be firm, consistent and encouraging when they finally do what they were asked. And repeat, repeat, repeat. They are actually really easy, even my kids can get her to do what they want. But it does help if you are at least as strong willed as they are.
Brian Nugent 100% right there. Shouting just puts fear into them. Although I do a lot of fun videos they know that I'm the Alpha male without having to shout etc
Jon, I was hesitant to view your post, as I was so worried that you may have been one of those owners, 'whom like to terrify thier dog into doing something, however, this couldn't have been further from the truth 'you obviously love your dogs, and they are part of your family 'just how it should be' It's lovely to see. and exactly how it should be 'well done to you mate'
My bullmastiff is just as stubborn and lazy. But he knows Exactly what is unacceptable to me. They're really loyal and pleasing when they know you're the boss. His pals are a Jack Russell Terrier (Terrorist, she's such a moody little dog) and a Beagle Yorkie mix.
To all potential owners you need to know that the Bullmastiff will fuck you up if you cross them. If you are unlucky and get a bull who wants to dominate you cannot read them and they will do whatever they want and there is no stopping them. Mine is purebred with pedigree certificate and has wicked food aggression - think Cujo. He guards hallways and you cannot pass or you will get ripped apart. I made the mistake of raising my voice to him on a few occasions when he was a puppy when naughty and he thinks I am his rival now. I love him more than anything but it is ridiculous. Now he takes pieces out of me whenever he feels like it. I have scars all over my hands and legs. If you get a good one you will have the best dog ever. But if you get a cunt like mine, you will be walking on eggshells from his 4th year and until he's gone. I have taken off the stair treads to my house so he can no longer get into the house. If I didn't I would be dead by now I think... definitely not a dog for the novice.
Hi Jon as a first time owner would you recommend a Bull Mastiff to me? I just love this breed and love to have one at my home but after a lot of research on the internet I am confused.
Soumya Mohapatra true only to dedicated people and first time owner are gonna in for a challenge but if your serious get one he has lower energy to like doberman they kind really kind to you and your family but wary of strangers so beware of the guarding instincts and they can have a more independent streak in them
U have the wrong breed of dog. U are not in charge of the dogs it's there house. He's only two what does that mean he's a puppy? By 12 months the dog should know the rules and listen. U need a soft breed like a Labrador or golden retriever..
Jon Williams With all due respect, the first comment was asking people to let you know what they thought. The first person who told you, you cut down by "yawning" . I honesty can give you some extremely useful tips, as I care about dogs & their people very much. I realize dogs are part of the family and are better than people. I don't know if you want any tips. I can see that you love your gorgeous dogs.
Just because a dog is smart enough to know that he/she doesnt 'need' to sit, the focus is still on the owner/handler/pack leader because bullmastiffs just like any dog who is treated well, just want to please others.
How you gonna say good boy .. after you told him sit after he jumps on the counter ... you don’t need this breed of dog and learn to take your own advice... he ain’t even giving you eye contact bruh .. pointless video
I'm sorry but that's old school alpha male no look on Zak George there's evidence scientific evidence that dogs are not alphas or omega you don't have to dominate to train positive reinforcement no aggression no dominance positive reinforcement on any breed will bring an obedient dog
Alright. Not trying to troll or anything, but Id like to critique your way of handling this situation. Your dog needs to get his butt on the ground if you say sit once (!) and he needs to stay that way until you say otherwise. If he does, pet him, treat, make him feel good. If he doesnt, make him feel bad. Either shouting or pain, depending on your dogs character. He needs to understand that bad things follow if he doesnt obey. I do not think youre in control of them. Otherwise handsome dogs, I like them
